Interesting either way.
Least ferrari were competitive this time. Hopefully a good sign for the rest of the season. Some actual challenge to the merc for wins.

By Spengo Go To PostWas there ever a similar case where a team was successful with their appeal?no, this is part of the official communicado
However the five-second penalty imposed on Vettel, under article 38.3 (a) of the sporting regulations, cannot be overturned. Article 17.2 of the same regulations notes “appeals may not be made against decision concerning the following: a) Penalties imposed under Articles 38.3 (a).”
In the past there were championships were you had no idea who was leading due to pending court cases and the FIA rightly changed the rules to stop that.
So short answer, this one is purely for the bühne (the audience), as we say over here.
At he end of the day VET fucked up under pressure again. Not even a Lewis fan but that penalty was deserved.
A little off-topic. Exciting new class. Sounds a lot like GT1 was like in the 1990s and early 2000s.
They should just invite 70 GTPro cars and kick out the rest, yeah I know multi class racing ;), amazing battles between them again this year.
Hyper sounds good if they can find enough manufacturers, more than current LMP1 shouldn't be to hard and they get the balance (bop) right

Grats to Toyota for having a fast car capable of running for 24 hours, but this series might as well be in hibernation now until the hypercars arise. Two years ago when we had two contenders for victory, was like a party. Rest of the years with the modern LMP1s too, fantastic. But Toyota (and the ever-farcical BOP) have sucked the life out of the thing this season, and GTE Pro's plight means the championship will certainly be dormant for a year at least. Bring on Aston Martin...
This weekend the French GP at (test track) Paul Ricard. You need power but I guess there are to many corners for Ferrari, so expect Merc win. Also looking forward to see if Renault's updates finally can match Abiteboul's promises and they seriously close the gap to at least RBR (that's Max in a RBR), even though Honda brings their 3rd engine of the season (minor power/reliability update)

By Spengo Go To PostGrosjean is having a day from hell.he is definately having one of those weekends :P
FP2:
Lewis see below messed up his and Max lap, so Lewis is similar pace to Bottas (fraction slower) and Max similar as the Ferrari's. Long run Merc dominant 5/6 tenths to Max who was few tenths quicker than the Ferrari's. McLaren looks good so far, both single lap and long runs (kept reds alive for long time and had pace) and the team that is going to bother Gasly if today's session is representative.
Lewis:
Lewis to the stewards for unsafe re-entry, you cannot not make it up :P
point 3, really Ferrari :rolf:
mumbles something and that's why they will never be a wc winning team, cough cough
Ferrari did send their new floor back to Maranello and they look slightly better, but still to far of in the final sector. RBR chances threw them backwards and in to the midfield, so they need to find some magic in the next few hours. McLaren again looks good, curious to see if this time they can keep it up through all the Q sessions.
Never rated the Paul Ricard. Just looks so dead.
Please be an interesting race and qualifying session.

By markao Go To PostMax sweating, just through, what a track evolution :PSo close for Verstappen. Horner would have been clenching so hard at the end there.
Grosjean, quelle surprise and Kvyat out
By Spengo Go To PostThat was hardly exceeding track limits, sod off.doubt it is quicker even, but they were probably briefed about it.
Ghostly just through on the reds (would have been better of in p11  ) and Hulk not making it on the mediums.
Apparently Russels fastest time wasn't disallowed even though he did go more off the track than Max.
Goddam McLaren, just shy of Max and ahead of Vettel
Lewis another pole and Valteri cracked under pressure in his 2nd run.

earlier tonight at the 24h nurburgring, one guy missed the fact that there was yellow and "slow zone" on the Döttinger Höhe... ........everyone looked ok.
By Spengo Go To Posthahaha
Let's hope Charles can do something at the start/1st lap so the Mercedes guys have to race for it
Mercs to fast for Ferrari and they are to fast for Max, so we will have 1 lap Max vs Sebas and that's it i'm afraid....unless pace is different on the hards
If Lewis had clean last lap, Vettel would probably not even have gotten fastest lap (2 hundreds ). But dominant from Q3 on and if there was any doubt about Bottas 2.0, championship is done if Lewis doesn't brake his ankle on a Hilfiger catwalk.
Boring race, only action P7/10 last lap was cool
Helmut's patience must be getting pretty thin, but who do you put in that car.

I guess DannyRic knew what was coming in that interview
2×5sec penalties,
"F%#@k them all, how does that sound"

Yeah, Ricardo deserved the second penalty, not sure about the first, but after last week hands were tied i guess.
Good weekend for le clerc.
Renault seems to be getting there slowly, but great to see McLarren are back amongst it.
Does gasley get the whole season in redbull or get demoted to torro rosso and kyvat promoted?

By giririsss Go To PostDoes gasley get the whole season in redbull or get demoted to torro rosso and kyvat promoted? If he can slightly improve, yes, regular 6th place finishes would do.
DannyRic leaving, when they did not expected it, meant they had too rush Gasly. If they dump him now the same could happen to Albon.Leaves Kvyat who they already dumped for not good enough in handling pressure, so has he matured enough the last few years?
So there is not a lot of choice which give Pierre some time at least.
Switcheroo incoming.
I defended Gasly at the start of the season, but that performance after 8 races shows he not ready for the Red Bull seat yet.

With that car he should be steadily raking in sixth places. Maybe make Max sweat during quali every now and then. None of that is happening right now. If something's not changing soon I can't see him last the whole season in that seat.
He can’t even fight the midfield while Max is fighting the Ferari’s smh
I won’t tolerate a Mercedes 1-2 here.

Another race weekend, this time Red Bull Ring in Spielberg Austria. Sixty seconds plus lap with long straights and only few corners, so maybe this is going to be the one...................
