By Laboured Go To PostStill not interested at those prices atm. Sort of going through a period where there are a number of similarly priced things I'm pining for and it's causing paralysis.
I was wanting one for ages, couldn’t see it going cheaper that £1700ish for a long time, couldn’t resist it.
Now working two jobs to pay off my PC related debts so I never have the time to use it anyway

im kind of over g-sync, the premium is too much and 144hz in general gets rid of screen tearing
gsync is great for trying to smooth out low framerate content, but not so much an issue if your build is on point
brehs, i actually modified my monitor for gsync. Its an ASUS 32 inch, 1080p lol. First time I've opened up a monitor. I had to actually open it and install the modification to turn it into a gsync monitor. In doing so I lost the ability to connect HDMI to it.
Shit was scary

I agree mostly, playing at over 100fps and it's like what's tearing look like anyway?
It's super nice sometimes though, like playing XCOM 2 at 4K, my FPS is all over the place. From 50 to like 80, but gsync smooths it out completely negating any need for a locked 60FPS.
yea, some games are just....not well optimized, so you'd really prefer having g-sync than not obvs

By Smokey Go To PostI want that 240hz monitor for some reason…
240 is very cool and good for competitive shooters, that actually goes up to that refresh rate (like csgo). But honestly I could drop down to 120hz without noticing it too badly.
By Smokey Go To PostI just don't know if I could do 1080p again tbh1440p/240hz are on the way

Got some spare time, so trying to manually overclock my 1070. Trying to make sure it can go through 10 minutes of the Unigine Heaven benchmark without error before calling a speed a max. Looks like I will get above a +400 mhz on the memory clock and possibly +100 mhz on the core clock.

Thanks. I'll be keeping an eye out for this.
*knock on wood* +100 core / +400 memory clocks seems to be stable after 20 minutes of benchmarking. Hope it lasts with real game play! Temps cap out at 74 C with fan at 61%, which is pretty good!

New Fractal case. Meshify S2.
Take the NCase layout, give it an open front panel with room for two 120mm fans. ITX case perfected.

I finally oced my cpu further.

Trying my hand at overclocking my ram again. I had it stable at 2933 mhz, but I'm trying 3600 mhz now. There was a recent motherboard bios update that included an updated AGESA protocol in addition to a new update to the Ryzen DRAM Calculator tool so it should be easier to get a stable OC now.
50 minutes into my ram testing and all is stable. Will let it run for about another hour just to be sure. Also, my CPU is only at 45 C while being every core has been at 100% usage the entire time of this test. lol
Also, the AMD auto-boost has each core sitting at 3.98 GHz from a 3.70 GHz base. Pretty happy with the overclocking results and my cooling system today.

Yay, ran the memory test for two hours (20 passes) and no errors! 3600 MHz @ 14/15/15/15/30 timings. I suppose I could see if I can get 14/14/15/14/28 stable, but I don't think it would make enough of a difference to be worth the hassle.

Interesting. I've never used OBS, but this capability in the RTX cards sounds promising. They're saying it cuts down the need for a dedicated, second PC when doing serious streaming, even on a RTX 2060.
I'd like to see some comparisons between that new encoder and a high quality cpu encoder. If it is the same quality as x264 Fast, I would be somewhat impressed. If it is equivalent to Medium, though... That would absolutely get rid of the need for a second PC for streaming for just about anyone.
e:
e2: for anyone curious, the quality settings for x264 encoding are (in order of ascending quality):
Most people use "veryfast" when streaming from a single PC. I'm not sure what people who stream on a second PC use, but probably Medium, at the least.

Been looking at some high end Z390 boards lately. Gigabyte in particular. The one below is their very top end one, and is insane

I like the look of the EVGA board with the funky layout and the two DIMM slots. Be a shame to put it in a case and not on an open bench tho.
The Gigabyte BIOS is apparently appalling compared to everybody elses, so I'm leaving this here mainly for potential future reasons
