Never, ever going to rewatch TDKR so not sure if it's actually bad, or my judgement of it was clouded from being so excited for it and then disappointed during.
By Cleff Go To PostWatched The Dark Tower. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie butcher it's source material to such an extent. They couldn't even give us the man in black fleeing across the desert as the opening scene.Saddest part about it is if they just focused on adapting the first book it has all the elements of a solid minimalist western. Idk how you fuck that up (well I do know, you try to be way more ambitious than you need to be)
By LFMartins86 Go To PostMy local cinema is only having one showing of Us, next Friday at midnight. I already have tickets for a musical festival that night so I am a bit angry that that is the only showing they are having, especially when they are having showings for that lame Keanu Reaves movie Replicas on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
you didn't miss anything special
Us was not good
Finally watched Perfect Blue for the first time. Quality mindfuckery. Need to get this on Blu-Ray ASAP.

Anyone ever seen Tears of the Sun?
I'm not saying the movie has aged well or anything, though I think it has.
But man, watching that movie again really crystallizes for me how there may never be another actor with the same screen presence like Bruce Willis again.
I don't know what it is about movies set in Africa (just the unique blend of visually stunning scenery coupled with the most somber of moods), but take Leonardo DiCaprio for example, I never even respected his ability as an actor until Blood Diamond, but after then, Leo's been by far the best actor ever (after Daniel Day-Lewis' portrayal of Bill the Butcher in Gangs of NY)...

By Laboured Go To PostYou just never know where he's going. Masterful.
One day we will have chai and buttered naan with malai while we laugh at all the dumb shit I've said throughout the months.
Right, movies then. I watched:
Bumblebee - An example of a competently made Transformers movie. Wonders never cease.
Dragged Across Concrete - Enjoyed it. Love Zahler's jarring switches to ultra-violence using practical effects.
The Shoplifters - Took me a while to settle into it but very well put together movie in the end.

I had a thought. In the Shawshank Redemption when Red fixed it so that him and his friends were the ones to tar the roof, wouldn’t the other prisoners be pissed off at him? They surely would have figured out it was him that rigged it. Was his position as the prison yellow pages really be enough to protect him?
I have a Friday night Avengers ticket. No way was I waiting in a digital line for a Thursday show. Are you kidding me, Fandango?
Edit: It's also not at the fancy dine-in theater, so I may end up cancelling this one when they put their tickets up.

Set to film entirely in the Golden State, the also Andrew Lazar produced Akira itself is estimated to generate $43 million in wages to 200 below-the line crew members and more than 5,000 extras during its 71 days of filming. Having seen his name floated around in the past in connection to the project, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is still on-board to helm Akira, I hear.
Nothing Waititi has done inspires faith that he can do Akira justice.
Dream director would have been Villeneuve

By backseat sy Go To PostDoesn't even need a live action adaptation. Shit still looks incredible.
He wants to cover more of the manga

Found the anime (the version I watched anyway) to be a complete mess in terms of narrative and flow. It's what FFXV reminded me of.
Us was a really well made movie, but it just wasn't great. The acting, editing and atmosphere in the first 2/3rds of the movie is too well done for me to say it's bad, but yeah it just didn't hit for me like Get Out did. Also felt like the social commentary wasn't as effective.
