Objectively a perfect movie. I would fucc it ten times over
By Rob Go To PostGonna watch Us this Tuesday, anyone else looking forward to it?yeah going tmmrw. really excited.
Just re-watched Get Out on 4K UHD, HDR is beautiful and it’s an amazing script. watched it with Jordan’s Peele’s commentary, which is very insightful and interesting.
TOO VICIOUS FOR MY BLOOD
The thing that hurts Us the most is the story. The music, the editing, the acting are all out of this world. What Peele is trying to say would have landed far better if the story was contained to what the main family is dealing with. Trying to reach outside of that dynamic and trying the opening scene with "lemme explain everything for you" is real rough.
i can not imagine anyone thinking this is better than Get Out.
is it a case where white people think its a comedy and black people think its a horror movie or vice versa?
By DY_nasty Go To Postis it a case where white people think its a comedy and black people think its a horror movie or vice versa? No. It's an unapologetic horror movie, with the kind of modern humor (mostly from Winston Duke) that you'd expect sprinkled in throughout.
Us looking at a 65-70M$ OW. Since it's budget was 20M$, it will start making profit by the middle of Sunday.
That's a good amount. It will easily surpass the 45-50 mil estimate. I look forward to seeing more feedback this weekend and how that will affect weekend #2.
Should do well WW also. Get Out only got released in a lot of countries weeks after the USA release because most distributors didn't expect it to be a smash hit.
Us is releasing almost everywhere this week and the next.

Just watched Tag. Lot of fun but pretty messy and gets a bit weird near the end. Entire thing was a vehicle for easter eggs and nods to other films and tv shows. Odd one, not quite up there with Game Night and Blockers but pretty close.
About to stick on Triple Frontier

I watched dragged across concrete.. there might be something wrong with S. Craig Zahler

By diehard Go To PostI watched dragged across concrete.. there might be something wrong with S. Craig ZahlerMy big take away from the movie is Zahler is trying to say that life rewards a certain kind of boldness. Calm, honest, and decisive. Never panicked. You see this thread in all his movies (so far) but I think it's most explicit in Slim here in Dragged Across Concrete. He's always collected and willing to die by his word. In Zahler's world most ppl are either incredibly unlucky, or just foolish. Being smart won't save you either unless it's tempered.

Saw Us tonight. Great horror film, tonnes of layers and nuance and a truly scary message at the heart of it. Thought the tension building in the last third was off and the film didn't really play by its own logic at all. Sensational performances and direction/cinematography though. Really expertly crafted.

Ok, thanks
Bad Times at El Royale was... okay? Technically, it's really well directed and Goddard has a really good eye for what he is going for, especially keeping the movie to the period-era mid-century modern style.
But the movie drags quite a bit, especially the dialog, with him being basically a Whedon/Abrams apprentice is basically unsurprising. There's a pivotal moment in the middle of the movie that would've saved a nice chunk of runtime and worked better if he didn't decide to show the same scene from each character's perspective back-to-back-to-back, and instead just edited their timelines in together which would've provided better tension imo. The pacing of the movie needs a lot of work.
I will say that Cynthia Erivo stole the show and was the standout in this. She was also really good in Widows but this allowed her to really flex her talents. Chris Hemsworth should play more bad guy roles.

I liked Us, but either Peele is asking us to not think too hard about it or no one is capable of thinking as hard as he is.

I still enjoyed it.
Us had a 70M$ OW, third highest opening ever for an horror movie behind It and last year's Halloween.
Captain Marvel reached 910M WW, could reach 1B$ next week or two.

It would seem that way to a pleb that cant appreciate art
'Us' was very enjoyable, may have to see it again to digest the third act. It felt rushed, up till then though, it's wonderfully directed.
Lupita is a true goddess, she's amazing in this.

Watching Senor Spielbergo’s debut feature film ‘The Sugarland Express’ for the first time, goddamn this was one confident director even from his early days. Lots of nice steady shots in this.
I just had a thought. In The Prestige, why didn’t Hugh Jackman clone himself once using the machine and then do the trick the same way Christian Bale had been doing it?

Because then Bale would have known his trick.
