Is that abroad in the EU or around the world? Stands to reason that UK would have so many expats given the commonwealth
By Fenderputty Go To PostAbolishing private insurance is a stupid idea and I don’t know why Bernie and co are trying to do that. In countries like Canada, Japan, Germany, France, etc where there is public insurance there is still a private option.
Not s surprise. Middle class people who like their insurance don’t want it replaced … yet. A blossoming public option would likely see and increase in public healthcare and a decline in private though. I doubt a public option would pass unless the senate flips tho

Agreed. Lots on the left seem to think a public option is too neoliberal or some shit though. It reminds me of the minimum wage thing. A soundbite is made and people run with it. Similarly, a $15 minimum wage isn't really workable when comparing Seattle to bumblefuck Alabama, but economic nuance doesn't make good politics. Here we have a catchy slogan and everyone's running with it. The "multi payer" vs "single payer" debate has happened on SLAENT as well. Gondo and I argued a lot about it. The goal should be universal healthcare at reduced costs though. I've always maintained that scrapping existing private infrastructure and rushing to put a public infrastructure in that could provide healthcare to an entire nation was a pipedream. I think Bernie's plan put a 5 year window on the phase out of private care, but no way in fucking hell that happens and if you fuck up such a giant policy shift you could ruin public healthcare for multiples of decades.
I also don't like plans that don't make efforts to decouple employment with insurance either. Something Bernie's makes no effort in solving. It's because nobody wants to deal with he politics of taxation so a lot of these plans use payroll taxes. Fuck payroll taxes for this. All those do is suppress an employees real wages and they do so in hidden ways that most people don't understand. People see their hourly rate, but almost nobody pays attention to their actual hourly costs.
This is not an easy sell to a nation who reflexively hates taxation.

Here's the thing about British exceptionalism, its hard-wired into every man and child who's been raised to believe that being White and English makes them special. So when you tell them a course of action they've taken is wrong, they don't double down, they triple down .
I mean preaching to the choir, got folks here who will absolutely castrate themselves if their neighbor gets that and more.
It's shit that like that makes me think I'm in a coma and my brain is just making some shit up. This timeline, whew.

I don't know how you get anything other than techno-libertarian vibes tbqh. Seems like classic rationalist / logic-master who somehow always comes down on the side of racism and xenophobia.
I also like his "I have never joined a political party but I have only ever worked with very right wing political parties" schtick.

I don't think I've read any Brexit analyses as clear and reasonable as his own: https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2017/01/dominic-cummings-brexit-referendum-won/
it's also pretty clear from his writings that he knows the victory was just as much down to mediocrity from the remain campaign as anything he did and there's no suggestion that he is a 5d chess master who outwitted everyone, just someone who didn't get stuck in some politics bubble and so avoided a bunch of easy errors.
That being said, there is still the fundamental issue that he never really justifies why he came down on the leave side at all

Seems like Cummings will be chief of staff meaning that Johnson is likely gearing up for the General Election already.
There's some energetic, in the prime of his career guy who did a good chunk of the legwork on running the show for this report that knows the report like the back of his hand and that person is not Mueller lol.

I tuned in for five seconds into the Mueller testimony, and "well respected Republican" is questioning Mueller whether someone leaked to CNN that Roger Stone's home will be raided 🙄
