By Perfect Blue Go To PostIn some ways. When it comes to areas like housing, public transit, and caring about indigenous peoples we are fucking shite.Incredible they are governed differently like some kind of cattle. Canada doesn't give a fuck.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostWe have multiculturalism in Canada and people call us dirty socialists. We don’t prescribe to a society that operates on the melting pot theory, though. In Canada it’s closer to the patchwork quilt idea of everyone’s own culture creating one big culture as a whole.Canada certainly does a bang-up job of eliminating the area's original nationals, that's for sure.
That’s probably why you don’t see such things as “Canadian nationalism” and there is a lack of cultural identity in Canada. Compared to like in France or Germany where you can easily see what defines someone as French or German. In Canada it’s more or less symbols like Tim Hortons coffee or Hockey. Trudeau himself calls Canada the first “post-national” state, which I’d probably agree with.
e: ahh, i see you mentioned this later on
You're not a real country unless you're sterilizing indigenous and marginalized groups up till the present.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI just figured TX's second place choice would be someone closer ideologically to Biden. Warren is arguably the most liberal candidate out there. His shit wasn't earned and he should've won. Now he's running on fumes looking like fraud he is lol.
No amount of livestreams it skateboarding clips gonna help him win for losing. Castro's work and policies put him in position to begin with and without that his sustainability is on clear display.
Big homie Tulsi needs to fight a bear or something tho tbh

Sure but Harris and Pete are all more centrist than Warren too. Like I figured she would trail everyone in Texas.
I was reading some analysis earlier today as well that seems to suggest Bernie's support is unwavering, but that his support is so confident in him that they don't pay attention to any other campaigns. It's like a Bernie bubble and everyone else is fighting for the rest and Warren's visibility is helping her because she's so out there.
I think that's a bit unfair considering he's a returning candidate. Of course he won't have the spark of new interest.
And in regards to Warren, she's regularly put out policy stuff now. Harris on the other hand has to just not look like a racist shill 24/7.

They had some #'s to support the position. Basically the Bernie contingent isn't interested in other people's campaigns but everyone else is paying attention. Let me see if I can find the post ...
If a Democrat candidate is liked better than Trump in Texas, maybe we should double check that they are not a liberal after all.
What other campaign is even worth the attention? Outside of Warren and the brief splash Buttigieg made, what's even warranting a conversation... Biden is very clearly what he is and no one else has even broken surface tension.
I'm sure some numbers are there but I'm not sure it really detracts from the fact that this field blows and everyone knew it would a year ago.

I mean it's partially there, but far from being anywhere as deeply rooted as the french one.
Just look at how long France has been a nation, how much national symbols they've got, how they share the same values based on the French revolution and alot more.
Germany on the other hand, hasn't been a real and unified country for long.
A confederation of nations, an empire that was still ruled by different royal families.
I quote wikipedia
The German Empire consisted of 26 states, most of them ruled by royal families. They included four kingdoms, six grand duchies, five duchies (six before 1876), seven principalities, three free Hanseatic cities, and one imperial territory. Although Prussia was one of several kingdoms in the realm, it contained about two thirds of Germany's population and territory. Prussian dominance had also been established constitutionally.
That's something you can still feel today. Symbols, identity of a state that once was a kingdom, is still seen as a state thing instead of something the nation stands for.
Even the revolution wasn't really something that was able to abolish that.
Once the German Empire was there, they tried to establish a feeling of real nation. They build a shitload of statues, different symbols along with other things. That's something that didn't really help though, as you can't just "build" a cultural identity. It's something that has to grow naturally and exist for a longer period of time.
WWI and WWII were also times were that lack of identity played a role, not a major one, but it was certainly used.
WWII was another thing with huge territorial gains and loss of them. That's also something you have to consider along the line.
I guess I don't have to explain how the phase after WWII also changed the situation for the worse. A country split in town, ruled by two entirely different political systems, worldviews, allys and so on. The resentment still exists and particularly people from the east struggled really hard to accept the "new" nation after the reunification.
The state struggled to get working reforms for the areas going. Industry and infrastructure there was in shambles and still is in quite a few areas.
This is something that leads to poverty and enabling political extremism (see the EU election and how many there voted for the AfD or the Left). You still got more than enough people that rather want the old DDR nation back (even though they knew it was on the verge of a collapse when the unification happened).
I could count up more reasons, but in general these are the major parts of it. The age of the nation, WWI and II, a split country.
As I said, it's something that has to grow naturally and I'm pretty sure there will be a general shared identity at one point, but I don't think the nation is there yet.
France just got a far bigger history as one nation.
Even if Germans lack a national identity, at least they'll always have their dislike for Turkish immigrants as a unifying force.
By reilo Go To PostEven if Germans lack a national identity, at least they'll always have their dislike for Turkish immigrants as a unifying force. If you want to break it down and make it simplistic, sure.
Think it's complex topic overall.
However, it's also vastly different from state to state. If you're just looking at the political partys and attacks on people, it's certainly the east (Berlin excluded) where the right wing cunts got their stronghold. Despite having the least amount of foreign people or people that got their roots elsewhere.
By blackace Go To PostGermans actually somehow get a pass for the whole German colonial empire phase they went through…It's something that should play a far bigger part during the history lessons in school, as it's hardly in the the programme.
Mostly used in the context of the build up as a "big nation" with the comparsion to the British Empire and France.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostCheers Penny, I forgot about most of that when I included Germany with France.Well, I doubt most of it is part of the history lessons in other countries.
I assume it's mostly gonna be WWI and WWII plus the aftermath of it, leading up to the cold war?
Most of the other nations included in our history lessons here, are towards direct involvement like all those wars.
Canada was never really part of anything, except for a small excourse and a brief course of history during our english lessons, but far from anywhere substantial.
The US had small bits, but mostly on the surface and stuff like the American civil war wasn't even a topic.
Asia and Africa had nearly zero involvement, unless it was about colonies or WWII stuff.
By blackace Go To PostGermans actually somehow get a pass for the whole German colonial empire phase they went through…They make great cars so they get a pass 🤷♀️ also Europe's history is fraught with wars between the royals. Anybody from Belgium here? They were some of the most brutal.

Partially because of the school system, partially because education is a state thing and the topics get decided there. Overall I assume, it's something that those officials don't count as important in the grand scheme of things. There is no real indepth look at it, it's mostly on the surface which country was a colony and some effects on it, but as I said, it's much more used in the context of the Empire seeing it as becoming a big player like France or the Brits. Alongside the huge military and naval build up.
By Pennywise Go To PostThe majority of people won't.Outside of Germany in my experience knowledge of it seems very limited... Seems like the perfect type of deflection ammo for England and France... and even America to toss about but yet you almost never hear anything

I think it's also factor that you hardly had people immigrating (not sure what other term to use here) into Germany, while France has a rather big part of their population with people having their roots in one of their former colonies or even still having family over there.
French people with an Algerian backround, British people with an Indian backround aren't uncommon compared to a German with an Namibian backround.

I think a big contributing factor to why Canadians are so nice is because the population is small and immigration is sort of difficult unless you are skilled or wealthy.
Disso what are the indigenous people of Canada calling themselves now? When I left it was still First Nations.
Disso what are the indigenous people of Canada calling themselves now? When I left it was still First Nations.
I believe they still use First Nations but in my day to day life in healthcare and education, vast majority of the time I heard indigenous peoples. It’s more inclusive because I believe First Nations only refers to people not in the north and doesn’t include Metis. Inuit is used for the ones living in the territories
And I personally said indigenous cause I was being more broad than Canada about being fucks to native peoples.

Brandon Wade, the founder and chief executive of popular sugar daddy website SeekingArrangement, is offering to cover the cost of both abortions and the travel expenses for women needing abortions in states that have introduced restrictions on the procedure.
Mr Wade announced him and his girlfriend Zoe Glaze are launching a charity called Fight Against Poverty so that “when any state makes the decision to deny women the right to make choices about her body, we can help.”
“We will provide women and families who cannot afford to provide for themselves, travel out of their home state to access proper health care and to exercise their right to a choice,” he said in a video released on Tuesday.
He added: “If lawmakers will not step in and help these desperate women, then I will."
Mr Wade explained that his girlfriend grew up in Alabama - a state where a new law mandating a near total ban on abortion was signed into law by the governor last month. Under the law, doctors would face 10 years in prison for attempting to terminate a pregnancy and 99 years for carrying out the procedure.
The abortion ban, which has been branded a “death sentence for women”, would even criminalise performing abortions in cases of rape and incest. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said the new law might be “unenforceable” due to Roe v Wade – the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalised abortion nationwide in 1973 – but said the new law was passed with the aim of challenging that decision.
“My girlfriend, Zoe, and her sister Camille, both from Gadsden, Alabama, wept that day. As did millions of other women worldwide,” Mr Wade said.

It's obvious what they're doing; trying to set up Warren as the person Dems should vote for, except it's not going to backfire for them. Will be very successful for them. I actually want to see just how successful it is going to be for them, so I'm going to be on my trololol shit and vote heavy for Warren in the primaries.
