By Dan Go To PostAll this talk about England missing something in midfield.mate you won't even know the club he plays for in 18 months
His name is Phil Foden. He'll be there in 2 years time.
Book it.
Refs were bad but England still had its destiny in its hands they just didnt play good.
Dont count out Croatia. Those guys are warriors.

By Hitch Go To PostA stationary one who couldn't make a burst into the box. After 100 minutes, fine. 60 though?I reckon it's more to do with how Gareth set the attack up. It's not like he has been brilliant at surging into the box the whole tournament anyway.
Reckon he won't play a minute of preseason.

By Scum Go To PostI'm with bud and this 3-5-2 milarky. Bring me 4-3-3/4-3-1-2 England. The #FM way.
Thought Pickford would be a massive liability for England and he was imo their top performer. Trippier, Maguire close there. Seems I've been wrong about everything lol.
By Fergie Go To PostThe Ox would have been great.Needed a fit Lallana more imo
By Fergie Go To PostThe Ox would have been great.couldve needed him just for his lungs
By Hitch Go To PostNeeded a fit Lallana more imoThink both would be great additions next time. Henderson needs help.
Dier isn't it.
England’s problem is we have no passers in MF and so we rely on energy instead. Croatia just kept spreading play through Rakitic and Modric like it was nothing and preserved a lot of energy as a result. Their use of the ball was so much more intelligent. That’s a limitation of our player pool not the manager.
alli looked like a proper idiot at the end
instead of just taking the foul he wants to start a brawl and then tries to take the FK short instead of letting pickford hoof it upfield

By inky Go To PostThe #FM way.Same here. I had England down to make it out of the group stages but to fail miserably at the first decent hurdle, with Kane finishing with just one goal to his name. But with a half decent, technically gifted midfield & better game/man management skills from Southgate and England will have something there. Sounds lile lolspurs talk but there's decent amounts of positives there.

England now need a clone of Modric or Iniesta.
By inky Go To PostBeing calling Croatia shit since the WC began, they might just go and win it now
By inky Go To PostEngland are not MASSIVE underdogs against France, sorry to say. Will be a very close game. Probably a 1-0 either team or all the way to pens.
By inky Go To PostEder did it last time against France. Think it will be Welbeck this time.
By Oddinho Go To PostEngland still has to beat Croatia, lest you dinguses forget.
By inky Go To PostBy far the worst team to make it to semis. They have no chance.
And this is not a jinx,. Other than Modric, I've maintained they've been crap all tournament. Ridiculously lucky.
By Laboured Go To PostYa I’m never going to agree Croatia are a much worse team. They’re very obviously not.Tonight they were not good at all though. It was just like Colombia, the might have had quality but they certainly didn't look like it.
By Flutter Go To PostSouthgate was humble enough to learn from a great manager. That's more you can say than other English managers.
But who cares?.The standard shouldn't be better than the shocking parade of recent England managers.

Wilshere.
Game was crying out for a player like him tbh. GNev was right, we looked so rushed and we had no time on the ball. Wilshere is the only player I can think of who fit the bill.
By Fergie Go To PostThe Ox would have been great.I wouldn't trust Ox to be fit for more than one game.

Congrats to Croatia. They played way better down the stretch. Good luck to them again'st France.
England made me proud enough.

Straight onto FM to sort out this nonsense then.

Young team too. Pretty much everyone but Young will make 2020 and even 2022 if their quality holds. Players like Alli, Rashers, Sterling are still not in their peak. Think England will persevere with Southgate unless he bows out. Woy was given another chance after fumbling to last place during the group stages last time around. Could be done, but yes... need some quality in that MF.
By Spengo Go To Post
As soon as Croatia got the equalizer you could see what would happen. Southgate was going to take off England's best attacker (Sterling), England's best midfielder (Henderson) and then wait way too long to fix the problem he created by bringing on a good attacker.
I.cant blame Southgate too much for not seeing how poor Kane was, because there isn't a manager alive who would have taken him off, but how he couldn't see how bad Alli was and how key Henderson was is just shocking

Because we picked a system that looked to mitigate that weakness and picked players that would suit it, rather than players that would not suit it but would provide alternative skill sets.
We had a plan and stuck with it. Saying pick Wilshire misses the point to a breath taking degree. He’s not better than who was taken.
By inky Go To PostSorry m9 couldn't resist.
By Laboured Go To PostBecause we picked a system that looked to mitigate that weakness and picked players that would suit it, rather than players that would not suit it but would provide alternative skill sets. You can still have a system and pick players that complement others if need be. Like the 3-5-2 was clearly not working after half-time, so to suggest bringing in a midfielder isn't an outrageous tactical thought. All systems can adapt to certain degrees.

By Dan Go To PostWilshere.Dan, pls. I hate that Wilshere's the only name that comes up. Just proves Horse's point. He's great but it'll be even better if others were included in that bracket. It was actually good to see Southgate have a plan, even if it was somewhat limited. Makes a change.

By inky Go To PostStill 1st place in the bracket challenge tho
interesting what France's gameplan will be since Croatia are more of a dynamic threat than Belgium I'd say
By inky Go To PostKos did France a favor by injuring himself. Lack of Payet has shown in a few games tho.The biggest one is Sissoko.
The Young Mbappe is there now.

By Auto Simeone Go To PostWilshere and Shelvey could have saved England.I would have taken Shelvey.
