So Garth Crooks reckons Aguero is criminally underrated and undervalued in England and argues he should be named Player of the Year:
Thoughts? I’m not so sure about him winning POTY with Kane and De Bruyne in the mix but I do agree he’s undervalued considering his achievements, undervalued both by our club and Pep and the football community.
“If this man does not win Footballer of the Year then there is something very wrong with the way we reward our best players.
“Granted we have De Bruyne to consider, and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, and of course Kane will feature in the final line-up. But none of the aforementioned have been as consistent over the past five years as Sergio Aguero.
“To think the Argentine's exploits in the Premier League have never been officially recognised either by his fellow players or the football writers.
“Whenever there are debates about genuine world-class strikers in the Premier League, the one name that is undisputed is Aguero. And it's about time the game acknowledged it.”

I think he’s very good but I’d never have put him among the very best players in the world; I’m not sure what it is, i just think he’s missing that special something. Subjective I guess

I’m biased of course but I think he’s amongst the world’s best. He would go to Spain and whack even more in more consistently than he does now. He’s consistent as hell and has never suffered through a serious dry spell in the six years he’s been with us.
By Kermit Go To PostSo Garth Crooks reckons Aguero is criminally underrated and undervalued in England and argues he should be named Player of the Year:Crooks is an idiot, not specifically for this, but literally every opinion he has. Aguero is incredibly consistent, but in a side that hasn't won the league in the last three years, despite being a side expected to win things.

Regardless, POTY shouldn't account for consistency over multiple years, and even if it did, Kane has been as or more consistent since he started playing with regularity.

Just the fact that Pep wanted to get rid of him is something so unfathomable. Don't get me wrong. Jesus is amazing and the future, but damn Pep. Getting rid of him? Why? I just don't get it.
I don’t think Aguero is as good in the system as Pep would like. He’s an unbelievable finisher but isn’t that all round player like Messi... think if he could have anyone up top in the league he’d have Firmino.

I don't blame Pep for it at all, when they look lethal with Jesus in the team.
Man City don't really need Aguero. They don't need someone who can score a lot of goals but not contribute a lot in other ways because they have a team stacked full of people who can score goals. Now obviously if you took out Aguero and replaced him with someone who doesn't score much and also doesn't contribute, like Sturridge, they would be a worse team, but City wouldn't need to shop for the likes of Sturridge. City can afford to have a less lethal forward who does more in other areas in the same way that Liverpool can play Firmino up top and still score plenty, and as N8 says Firmino would probably be the player City would most like to have up front (though personally I'm surprised they didn't make an effort to get Costa from Chelsea, though perhaps he was set on Atletico).
Anyone who thinks PFA poty should take consistency over multiple seasons into account should be shot.
100 games unbeaten lads, what a time. Drew 2-2 against Malaga (they scored in the 86th min...) and now I have Chelsea next in the CL.
Man people are idiots. In one of our shops in Sweden some idiot drove his car trough the shop windows completely destroying everything in it and much of the exterior to steal a couple of TV's.

Damn, pundits are starting to take note of Firmino. I wish they would just ignore him and let him continue under the radar. The Spanish vultures will be sniffing if he continues to get praises in the media. But then again, he said he won't pull a Coutinho. But you never know.
He'd be a perfect Benzema replacement if it was still necessary to have a striker who happily plays second fiddle to Ronaldo. As it is they'll want Ronaldo's goals to come from their new striker.

The PFA did it before when Giggs won POTY in 2009 and I think they also took the year before into account when handing Kante last years award over Eden Hazard
Still pisses me off that Giggs won it in 09. One of his season highlights was him sheperding the ball out of play ffs.
Should have been Vidic or Gerrard, easily.

It’s been said but Aguero’s lack of contribution to the match outside of goal scoring is the reason why Pep wanted to replace him and why some don’t consider him to really be in that highest bracket.
For me he absolutely is and has consistently scored 20+ league goals since he joined City. He’s phenomenal and perhaps the most important player in City’s post-bloodmoney success.
But yea, Garth Crooks is a complete idiot, bordering on needing medical help.

I find it odd how people cannot rate Sergio as top tier, he explicitly in the same bracket as Lewa and any other top striker.
I'd take Aguero over maybe Higuain, Benzema, Auba, Morata and Cavani.

OK Benzema now sure, but peak Benzema most certainly was.

Interesting perspectives. I mostly agree, particularly with the observation that he doesn’t fit Pep’s style. In saying that, before Pep arrived Sergio was our best weapon and it’s only been the last year that he hasn’t been the clear kingpin. I’m not sure we’d be where we are without Aguero.
By n8 dogg Go To PostGood article. Think the Gerrard comparison is a very apt one.Gerrard never played in the midfield 2 in a 4-2-3-1 under Benitez that I can recall, and in fact Benitez didn't start playing that formation until the final years of his reign at Liverpool. Gerrard himself had no problem playing in a midfield 2 under Houllier or in some of Benitez's earlier seasons; partly this is because the game has changed since then tactically, but equally he was just a far more versatile player than Pogba is. In the 13/14 season Gerrard has an excellent year playing as the most defensive midfielder and I would expect that's something you would never see from Pogba, nor indeed could Pogba match what he achieved playing on the right wing.
By n8 dogg Go To PostGood article. Think the Gerrard comparison is a very apt one.
this doesn't explain his general lack of effort or inability to actually pickup a man though. or throwing a hissy fit this year when he loses the ball instead of trying to win it back.
i do think him and Jose need to meet somewhere in the middle but Pogba's got a lot more to fix here than Jose IMO. his issues are issues that are independent of where he plays. its all between the ears.

Aguero has been the best striker in the Premier league for 6 or so years. He's been better than all of our strikers since RVP left.
