By Facism Go To PostCan you even get AMD pre-built systems?
Why would they bother?
Basin Falls Refresh (HEDT, Skylake x) getting announced today too?

They still win on price/performance ratio given you can get a 2700X and X470 board for the price of a 9900K alone.
Fuck price/performance ratios though. I ain’t got time for that shit. The 3000 series is looking to be a disappointment too with only another incremental clock speed improvement to 4.5Ghz from the rumours I’ve seen. At this rate, Intel might actually launch their 10nm processors before AMD even catch up to Intel’s 14nm++++++++.
Intel has announced further specifications for the 28C 3175X:
3.1GHz/4.3GHz boost (two fastest cores)
28C/56T
255W TDP
38.5MB Cache
Price TBD

My i9 9900K pre-order is placed. Good-fucking-bye Ryzen.
Edit: Also with that upgrade, and a Z390 board. I'll have all the spare parts leftover to rebuild my old PC if anybody wants an ITX R5 1600/GTX 1080 PC before I throw it to the wolves

Got a pre-order in at Amazon for the 9900k. Dunno if I'll keep it. Debating between it and the HEDT refresh.
Still happy with my 2700x though it would have been nice if Intel could have delivered a consumer grade 8-core CPU like a year earlier than they will.
Appreciate their fairly quick move from 4 cores to 8, but still calling what is traditionally an i5 (1.5mb cache/core, no hyperthreading) an i7 is disappointing.
very small heads up for overclockers: the mid-range gigabyte mobo's have pretty nice VRM's for the z390.

All parts are probably on HCC now, and like the Skylake-SP Xeons the lower core parts have access to the cache of disable cores. Won't be a huge boost but .. it's something.

By Smokey Go To PostI'm conflicted aftrue ballers are going to get the W-3175X
By Facism Go To PostWhat are you looking to sell those for?Dunno tbh, don't really know what it's all worth with the huge swings in price lately. All in, I'd be happy to claw back 800-900 quid for it.
By Smokey Go To PostAnnnddd the 9900k is sold out at Amazon and newegg. Z390 mobos launching today too.
Just eying up the ITX boards, kinda tempted by the cheaper ASRock board for the sake of compatibility but that Asus board is really something

Ain't me boss
Super partial to Asus on motherboards, kind of like I am with EVGA and GPUs. I'm so used to the bios and uefi environment on my rampage iv be.
If I stick with the 9900k, looks like the Maximus line is what I'd go with. Hero, Formula, or Extreme. Formula is already sold out on newegg. Hero is available, but the extreme isn't even listed.
I think I'm hesitant because I'd like to keep the next platform for about as long as I've been on X79 (~4 yrs), and have it be able to handle whatever configuration I decide to throw at it in they span. The HEDT 9000 series has full stack of PCIe lanes across the line , so that's good.
X299 I want minimum 10 cores. My 4930k is still viable and good 4 years later, I'd like to repeat that in the next build.

I've got nothing but good things to say about my Asus B350i, whereas I wasn't all that happy with my previous ASRock B350 board. I just really hate the built in I/O shield on the Asus Z390i, it really limits a lot of potential options and chokes off airflow in an awful way. Might have to wait for some reviews before jumping in on a motherboard.

Since when did EVGA make good mobos? I saw that Jay2cents (I think) is using the x299 Dark on the 3dmark leaderboard.

I think I'm down for the Asus Z390I anyway. I'm hearing the VRM will be as good as if not better than the ASRock board.
EVGA just started making motherboards, almost every LN2 overclocker uses the Dark unless they are sponsored by another company. They have ridiculous and awesome power phase setup.
I think the Formula is it m8s.
Odd how the Formula is $450 and for the 'mainstrram" platform, when I paid $500 for my Rampage IV Black Edition for the HEDT back in the day. Guess not that odd, Asus likes money, ijs.
Nah, they made x/58 and x79 boards too, even had a Dark model.

you're right, my bad. I'm wondering why i forgot that, maybe their x79 board wasn't notable so i just didn't remember.
I'm gonna have to get around to breaking Smokey's Timespy score before we both get the 9900K. I won't stand a fucking chance afterwards

Yeah that's what I was getting at. Their previous motherboards weren't good stuff all iirc. Then comes the x299 Dark
We're all upgrading to the 9900k, then? Think we should start a new thread that only allows the most elite #masterracers.
Mocking console pheasants doesn't do it for me anymore.

It's kinda funny because we don't actually.. need any benchmarks for the 9900k. We already know what it is, and we already know what games can benefit from going to 8 cores (very few). It's IPC is exactly the same, all you need is the per-core turbo frequencies which we now have.
There might be a small surprise with the possibility of the 9700k actually being slower in a few areas than the 8700k though (from the reduced cache size)
2 extra cores and solder is literally all thats noteworthy with this launch, but to be fair both of those things are good.

By Adam Go To Post300 dollar more than 2700x good? No, But the 2080ti isn't close to $600 better than a 1080ti either.
They can sell this as the best gaming CPU on the market, and people will pay the premium. They even gave it the previously reserved HEDT nomenclature of Core i9.
That heatsink looks nice and all, and it's huge but it just a massive flat surface. The fuck's going at Asus with that logic?

I'm looking at some German tech sites and I don't see it listed yet.

All the main UK sites seem to have them up for pre-order now, Scan, Overclockers, eBuyer and so on. Not sure about Amazon.co.uk though.
I don't get it. How does 499$ translate to 599€.
It used to be 350$ for the 7700k in the US, 350€ here in EU.

As I'm still going back and forth with what platform I'm going with, I have my storage setup pretty much finalized.
-1x NVME Samsung 970 Evo 250GB Boot/Programs (just ordered)
-1x 1TB Samsung 860 Evo SSD (Steam/Origin)
-1x ITB Samsung 860 Evo SSD (Uplay/Battlenet/Other clients)
-1x 750GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD (Other stuff)
May increase the size of the 860s, SSDs are getting really cheap in price. But definitely plan to have 4 drives. This mechanical gotta go. It's 2018.
