Somehow triggered a burn in effect/image persistence on my MBP by accidentally placing it down on my bed too quickly 🤦🏻♂️
I think it's fixing itself but how annoying.
EDIT: Ran one of the fancier screensavers and it seemingly fix it.

Oh, neat. The company that made my keyboard keeps their source code for the configuration app on githhub: https://github.com/KinesisCorporation/Freestyle-Edge-Pro-SmartSet-App
Gah the monitor is seemingly totally effed. I was planning on buying a new MBP in a few months... 5 long years, hoping it's software. Gonna do a clean reinstall.
EDIT: 10mins later back to normal. Definitely behaving like a burn in issue
EDIT2: As soon as I post that weird colors coming back again slowly, ugh

Fix 1: https://www.techhive.com/article/3147408/displays/how-to-get-rid-of-image-burn-in-on-an-lcd-display.html
Fix 2: "This video is a basic but effective way to help get rid of screen burn in or a stuck pixels on your screen. Let me know in the comments if it is effective for you. If the video doesn't fill your entire screen then you should use a different video that does. My website has many common screen sizes listed on it to help you pick the right video."

By YungMagus Go To PostAny good pickups for:I'll defer to Smokey and others for wireless peripherals. (the ones I like most only come in wired form)
-Keyboard Mouse combo (wireless preferred)
-DVD/Bluray Drive
?
As for BR drive, just about anything from a reputable name brand would be good. Although, there are a few different things to look out for, feature-wise, based on your needs. 1) Do you need to write BR? 2) Do you need to playback 4K and/or HDR content? 3) If yes to previous question, what formats of HDR do you need the player to support?

If you don't want stuff with mechanical switches and other features, Logitech makes some regular wireless keyboards.
I personally use G613+G900 combo and it's great. That setup will cost a bit though.
OK, trying a CyberPower UPS since i just couldn't deal with the very faint noise in my quiet house the APC one made. Early returns (10 minutes) are good. Going to wait a couple days to see if behavior changes, and then seeing about about ordering a second one for the home theater and work on selling the APC units.

Another vote for G613+G900.

Yes I have both ecosystems in my house. Right now I'm back to Logitech lol
How’s GPU pricing in the US now? UK are almost normal again for 1060/1070Ti/1080. 1070/1080Ti and the AMD cards are still inflated.
Later reading.

All about pricing and the audio right now. Everything is <$80 right now, it's finding a US-based seller.

Relying on on-board audio is a little risky since they can introduce a good bit of noise due to being so close to other components and creating interference. This can manifest as static or just generally a "dirty" sound. I don't remember what your requirements for sound were, though.
e: this is assuming you are using analog out. Optical out is a lot more reliable on motherboards but still has a (much smaller) chance of being "dirty"

It's actually more of what I can find/newest/best quality MOBO under $90 combined S/H right now. Every since I decided this won't be a throwaway machine I'm trying to see how new I can get with the mobo that can use the 1155 chipset and yet still be under $100. I mean to be real that's my real benchmark here.

Zabo and other noise-conscience people, I can confirm that the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD is a very, very quiet UPS when not actively on battery backup. I have two units and there is no audible coil whine. I have to put my ear inches away from the unit to hear anything at all during normal operation.
The fan kicks in when the temperature is high, but that shouldn't be an issue for most people. The fan sound is relatively low-frequency so it isn't annoying. Of course, the unit is much louder when the battery kicks in but that doesn't really matter because you should be shutting everything down safely when that happens so extra noise is not a problem to be worried about in that situation.
Only real criticisms: a little too much plastic, warranty/return/exchange/RMA policy is not as friendly as APCs, run time on battery is a bit low compared to more expensive units. Still, if you are using it as something to keep your stuff running during brief power outages and/or to have enough time to save+shutdown things during extended outages, it is excellent.

Good to know, Kib. I haven't had any electricity / current related issues for 10+ years now and I don't value what I have / do enough to bother with a PSU. Maybe some day.

But for real, the thing with RGB is you can turn it off and everything is normal. Or you can go crazy. Choice is good.

You’ve just got to have the creativity to turn RGB into RGBallin’ to make it look good.
Alternate rows of keys on a keyboard lit in 2 complimentary colours looks great. As does static white across all of them. Then matching that with your mouse, PC, casefeet, monitor, headset, mousepad, and speakers.

I no longer have the ability to determine who is being serious in here anymore. Good job gang.
Either my mobo or my PSU died today. Not getting any lights or anything, even when I leave it unplugged for a full minute before plugging it back in and attempting to power it back on.
Per Smokey's advice, I will need to do a paper clip test and multi-meter to determine which part broke. I should probably replace my mobo and CPU and RAM, anyway, since I'm still running on a processor released in April of 2012 (the i7 3770K).

Couldn't find a paper clip (will grab one later from my mom's house) but I opened up my case to take a better look. The standby power LED is lit, so at least some amount of power is getting to the mobo. When I press the power button on the case, the cpu fan tries to spin but then decides that is too much effort and stops. It only does this attempt once after I reconnect the power cord to the PSU; all other times result in no movement.
Also, I will be ordering some compressed air to help clean out this dust. And there are a couple switches on my mobo that I didn't know about. Oh, well.

Do your RGB strips still work at least?
Was able to try out the paper clip test today and the power supply fan turns on but my multimeter wasn't showing any power coming out any of the other contacts in the main power connector.
So, it looks like it is time to replace the Corsair TX 650 W that I bought somewhere between six and ten years ago. I'm leaning really hard towards getting the Seasonic Prime Titanium Fanless. It is 600 W and has no moving parts, so is completely fanless. My computer at load uses between 325 and 350 watts, according to my UPS, so it should be more than enough.
e: oh, it also comes with a 12 year warranty

I kind of wish I went with the above Seasonic last year. Or with another Titanium-tier PSU. I just couldn't justify the added cost at the time. Thinking back, it might've been a good idea to spend another 50-70€, especially with the 10-year (12, even?) warranty on these things. I'm very happy with the performance of my 750W Corsair RMi. No coil whine, fan doesn't turn on until @ 50% max. power usage (I can't hear it either way). 80+ Gold tho.
