Round 5 and we are back in Spain were the season started few months back for the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA EMIRATES 2018.
Track has short straight and lots and lots of different type of corners, so well balanced car with enough downforce will always do well in Catalunya. Mercedes looked unbeatable in testing, but Ferrari since seems to have fixed their unbalanced rear-end and RBR14 comes this weekend with upgraded aero which might bring them in.
First race back in Europe starts the first wave of bigger upgrades to the cars. Most noticeably the McLaren nose, the Ferrari halo ears (mirror+"legal wings") and Red Bull side pots area..
Also first weekend for the official opening of the paddock, aka the Motorhomes.
And first race since both RBR boys took each other out. Some external counselling was brought ion ;) , but seriously curious how Red Bull will handle the battles between the two. And Max needs ................ you get the drill :P
FP1 on right now
And for a track they know so well, many cars going of, DannyRic the first to hit barriers and not make it back to the pits.
And Kubica spin followed by a Stroll off, so strange for a track they have done sooooooooooooooo many laps on (wind??)
And Kubica spin followed by a Stroll off, so strange for a track they have done sooooooooooooooo many laps on (wind??)
A mentioned lot of cars struggling with wind, different tyre compounds, so not much to read in to. Merc (Bottas) looked really good in this session, Lewis on harder compound only few laps and Ferrari dead slow in the middle sector like in wintertesting so they have some work ahead of them for this weekend, RBR (Max) on medium looked ok, hard to tell because of the compound difference.
Looked cars could (almost)not handle singe fast lap on red tires and they were almost as fast on the yellows, so expect the top teams to do Q2 on the yellows? Long run pace on those supersofts of the Red Bull was really quick, but overtaking is almost impossible (same tires) here and Ferrari wasn't a lot behind.
Haas like in testing look like they might be best of the rest, as always its only Friday ;)
Hartley using some additional grass/mud on turn entry at turn 9 and that's 260 Km/h corner
FP3
Mercedes looks like team to beat for pole, Fer not close enough and RBR had issues (Max technical/ DannyRic no clean lap+red flag), so not sure if they are close enough on a single lap.
Haas still best of the rest, even with grosjean goin of again ;)

Hulk with issues and could not pull it of in the single lap he had and has Strollcrashedyet website needs an update.
Fernando in Q3, but now he has to start on those red tires, with probably everyone around him on the yellow softs...worth it??? And a track were downforce plays a bigger role and both Force India's out again in Q2
Ferrari looked best so far, GoKimi ;)
what a weird 1st Q3 run
ah normal order restored in the second Q3 run, LEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSS]]
with RBR messing up and not improving and both Ferrari's on the second row
Magnussen best of the rest, Alonso 8(start on reds) was pretty close between those 4.
Bit strange how Merc do this good after complaining to Pirelli and making them change the tire compound.
By Bungie Go To PostFerrari looking pretty close at the moment 🤔Only way Ferrari winning is this is by good undercut strategy.
I don’t doubt this SF71. It’s the best car on the grid
We could well have another race determined by safety car incidents
Ferrari will have the race pace I reckon. Also we don’t know what the weather is going to do to the track overnight and tomorrow morning.

Barcelona, hard to overtake and all top teams on same (one stop) tire strategy, race start will probably be the most exiting part of this weekend. Hope we will see less VSC fases as in the support races this weekend. I mean gravel traps are great to keep drivers honest, but it take ages to get the cars out of their.
And I think Markino (F2) was happy they introduced the Halo in that series to, could have been really ugly without one.

Grojean needs to lift because a car in front of him moves and that's why he loses his rear, not entirely on him, but still Grosjean again;)

That kid doesn't bring luck to Kimi for sure.
Red Bull gambling on the rain. Doesn’t look like it will come in time for them to go straight to inters if at all.

By Spengo Go To PostThat kid doesn't bring luck to Kimi for sure.Don't think its gambling on rain they have nothing to gain or loose to do the same as those in front. If mediums struggle for one stop in the end of the race, they might gain something, if not, still 4/5th.

Ocon gone, no power and VSC, good for those that stopped earlier ;(
And there it is Vettel extra stop for reds, no new medium and behind Max.......why Ferrari already lucky with Bottas poor stop and now loss of position. (unless they always had to 2 stop)
And Max season continues :( , front wing damage on Sorotkin/Stroll ending VSC
and next engine Stoffel gone:(
Alonso fighting end VSC:

Lewis, dominant as of nothing happened this season and Bottas thx to Ferrari calls P2
and Max starts his season with 1st podium.
Not sure if Ferrari was going to two stop, but if not Vettel needs to have a word with his strategic department (two bad pit calls)
Kimi :(
Magnussen best of the rest in front of the Spanish Armada
More enjoyable than expected, still Barcelona, but thx to some issues with cars/drivers at least some action.
By Spengo Go To PostNice bottlejob by Ferrari strategists :) Hamilton was just untouchable today. Great drive.Just saw that Vettels stop 5.6 secs was, so not entirely strat error and they were going to stop twice anyway.
