By s y Go To PostCrazy that it was in development for 4+ years and there's such a lack of content. Did they not outsource asset creation and stuff so they could focus on game stuff?
They're literally 4 miles away from Playground Games too, in my home town. Yin and Yang in productivity.

Yup, based in Warwickshire. I used to play football with some of those lads in a leasure leagues setup.

A multi-million dollar marketing effort manages to ensnare desperate Xbox owners for a couple of days. This one will be in the pit next to Quantum Break & Project Spark soon enough.

This.

By YungMagus Go To PostNi no kuni 2 is the tales game we've been waiting for the past decade
Harsh to call it a Tales game.
Seriously though it seems way too easy so far, but I love it anyway.. Not much unlike the faults of the first one, which were easy to look past for me anyway.
Last time I felt this good bout a bamco jrpg was vesperia.......tots different games but........somehow feels like it.......good way.
I would've been into 1 if it didn't feel so slow

By Hitch Go To PostlolHey we had this discussion a while back, but there's some genuinely good exclusive stuff on there like the Konami Contra/Gradius/Castlevania remakes that's about to go away forever (you know Konami's never going to bother porting those, if they even bother with those series at all ever again). A lot of Wii Virtual Console games didn't come out anywhere else, either.

What's the state of Virtual Console on Switch? Are they planning to make it a thing? Seems like a perfect pairing.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat's the state of Virtual Console on Switch? Are they planning to make it a thing? Seems like a perfect pairing. When the system was first shown they said they were going to do it, then stopped talking about it. I think the only thing concrete that's emerged is them releasing old games with online play as the incentive for their online subscription service.
Which is why the Wii/Wii U virtual console is still relevant for a while. Given how lackadaisical they were with Wii U VC releases, it became pretty clear they lost interest in VC as a priority years ago.

Seems like a missed opportunity. The portable nature of the Switch and classic games from VC seems obvious.
Playing through Prey and Yakuza Kiwami (my first Yakuza game). I'm enjoying Yakuza, but I've always wondered why Yakuza got one hundred sequels while Shenmue could never get a third game--and as I play Yakuza, I still don't have an answer lol. Don't get me wrong, the game is good, but it's got a lot of similar issues in regards to jank, the combat is not terribly different, and the cutscenes go on forever. I think the story will end up being solid, but so was Shenmue's. It lacks some of the blatant QTE sequences Shenmue but they are more deeply present in the actual combat.
Prey is a modern day Bioshock basically, not as lovingly crafted, but still quite well made. From what I've played I think it deserves a little more love than it's gotten.

That would be the best honestly. I hope they do something like that.

shenmue was expensive as shit to make cause yu suzuki's insane hubris demanded that some poor texture artist draw the inside of random drawers that literally maybe 20 people have ever seen.
comparatively yakuza heavily reuses assets between each entry and is not fully voice-acted (though yakuza 6 has full va). every game in the franchise has at least some part take place in kamurocho.
kiwami is practically the same game as the 2005 original but with 0's combat system and graphics engine pasted on top--the rigging of the characters in the cutscenes is literally identical to the original which is why it can look especially jank at times. word is that the team had basically the budget of a vita game and it shows. the side stories didn't start getting gud until yakuza 2. stick with it if you're enjoying it but really gotta play 0 next, the writing and sidestories are magnitudes better than the original.

Aside from being way more over the top, the big thing Yakuza has is random combat in the streets, it makes it feel much more like an action game. Most casuals played Shenmue going "but when do you do stuff?"

It was a money sink of ridiculous proportions that would never pan out on a console that wasn't successful. A Shenmue 3 wouldn't be a thing unless microsoft or someone picked it up in 2002, it wasn't gonna cost more money than shenmue 2 since everything was pretty much made in terms of tech, all they needed was more npcs and a new place to explore, but they just weren't interested. Not like shenmue 2 did gangbusters on the xbox anyway.

can't really blame sega aside from the dreamcast not selling well.
could proably argue that since they sunk so much money in, they should have ported it to everything under the sun and kept trying, but sega was nearly bankrupt before sammy bought them
on the plus side, I still marvel at the attachment ratio for shenmue on the dreamcast when I see microsoft or sony ejaculate over gears of war 1 selling 5 million or the last of us selling whatever. Gears sold 5 million on a console with a userbase of 80+ million people. That's considered a huge success, shenmue sold 1 million on a console that sold 10 million.
Nobody gives a bollocks about attach rate when the numbers are that underwhelming

Try 7.7 million. That’s got to be the attach rate king.

Owned a Dreamcast back in the day and I genuinely don't get the nostalgia for it. Sonic Adventures was cool like, but nothing to fawn over.
