I should probably note that the article says that the US prison system is not fit for keeping a vulnerable prisoner (someone who needs physical or mental medical care) alive. Not literally a human rights violation, though it might as well be and probably is.

By HasphatsAnts Go To Postits nice to see someone make the effort to connect the dots from the spillage in mali those few years back
This is why I still sub to the NYT I guess
this is why i'm always harping on warzones that just kinda get forgotten. mali wasn't even the US's fight specifically - that was France iirc. But with places like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, etc you're going to see a lot more splintering and cascading issues.
I don't buy the "I didn't know"s from those senators either.
Playing catchup, but did anyone notice Trump lost his goddamn mind on Twitter again? How is it so hard to bar the man from having a smartphone?

A lot of this falls on Reagan and his brilliant plan to close all asylums and mental hospitals as a way to lower taxes........

Isn't Facebook still denying they had anything to do with the intrusion of fake news into the last election cycle? Facebook sucks.

That's jokes. They'll probably push that same nonsense when the fake videos start showing up more, as well as the audio (the tech is right behind it). Bunch of empty words and no action.

So Trump supporters are now bashing the survivors of the Florida high school massacre.
ok.
I mean at this point I half expect the Earth to open up and swallow the wicked. Same probability as thoughts and prayers stopping school shootings.

Gateway Pundit sure seems like a legit site:
Brooks' article above has a bad headline, but the ending has a good point - take these debates off of social media. All of the platforms are so toxic and filled with bad actors, meme-spammers, and fake-news salesmen that it doesn't do anyone any good to fight it out there.
Edit: And Americans almost always poll saying that they support updated gun legislation in a vacuum, but when actually put on paper that support shrinks rapidly. But closing the "gun show loophole" would be a landmark step to getting guns out of 'bad guys' hands.

Meh. The breaking point is when Indys and Repubs start voting for gun control over their other pet issues

Manafort is so going down
Sarah Sanders also said this:
"The president totally supports the conclusions of the Russian investigation, and also it's a hoax."
Double.
Speak.
The lawyer indicted this weekend worked for the UK branch of a bank tied up with Manafort's Ukraine work, and lied about/tried to destroy evidence of his communications with Gates (who the LA times reported Friday just flipped) and another "person A" in the indictment who is likely Manafort. The deck is now stacked against Manafort as two of his closest confidants are working with the FBI. He's going to have to start dropping names or he's going to catch essentially life in prison.

He actually said they didn't meddle on several occasions too:
During an overseas trip to Asia in November 2017, Trump spoke of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. A reporter asked how Trump brought up the issue of Russian meddling in the U.S. election.
"Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn't do that,’ " Trump said. "And I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it."
Asked again if he believed Putin, Trump called several top U.S. intelligence officials "political hacks," and argued that other matters were more important.
"You have President Putin very strongly, vehemently says he had nothing to do with that," Trump said. "Now, you’re not going to get into an argument. You’re going to start talking about Syria and the Ukraine."
See, why did no one call sanders on that? It’s no coincidence she is so comfortable lying when no one calls her on it.

But if he stays quiet, can’t Trump just pardon him?
By livefromkyoto Go To PostBut if he stays quiet, can’t Trump just pardon him?
Possibly. Trump's tact regarding Manafort has been to say that what he's done is very bad, and an also done separately from his campaign so he's vindicated because Mueller hasn't found collusion. He's already left Manafort out to dry to some extent in this regard.
We also don't know exactly what Mueller has on these people. He's having them take a plea for a lesser crime, at from the plea's I've read. It's a tactic of his. Flynn, for example, can conditionally be charged with all the other crimes he's not been charged with yet, if he's pardoned for lying. Mueller is a boss. Mueller has also been sharing info with state AG's. So if any of these charges can be brought at a state level, Trump can't pardon there either.
We've flipped a bunch of smaller elections like this here. I'm skeptical it's going to be that big of a change come 2018. It seems like these big swings are occurring in elections that don't draw much attention. An energized dem base will kill it during these smaller elections.
I guess we just continue to hope the enthusiasm gap holds through the year.
It should only be a surprise when they lose given how shit the opposition is. You can't even say the right is giving a consistent, unified effort anymore. They weren't even doing it before the presidential election either.

I mean sure, the enthusiasm gap has a lot to do with Trump. My point was that the huge swings are a result of the enthusiasm gap occurring during small time elections that don’t normally get anyone to the polls. A regular midterm won’t see the same results with the same gap. Basically... good news but temper your midterm expectations.
I agree the right isn’t as unified currently, but disagree they weren’t. You would have to ignore Obamacare and the resulting issues the GOP dealt with during Trumpcare to make such a claim. They unified behind obstruction

Well, what is the big unifying issue for Republican lawmakers and donors to rally behind? We're living in a post tax cut world (which hasn't burned down) and the budget just got increased, I'd go home and be a family man too instead of fighting with Dems and the president over illegals.

if you aren't voting now in this polarized climate then you never will. you can't give credit for being a rational choice compared to opposing fukkery.
and trumpcare falling apart in office was an indication of how directly you're allowed to fuck people over. take their healthcare options? never gonna happen. a tax plan though? get those bootstraps ready.
