Dear me at that 458! Grats, Evo! I love that interior but I am sure the way it drives is even better. Looking forward to lots more info on this one in the coming days!
Congratulations on your first Ferrari! Only a few more bucks to crank it to 11 and make Harley riders flinch (I did this the first night I picked it up post-install). Louder than the Challenge cars, with old-school F1 DNA to boot ...
By s y Go To Post*debates between 17k CX-5, 16k Honda Accord or 17k Camry*Hmm, all are good cars so I would base your decision on the condition of the cars (how well they have been taken care of) , the mileage and how well they handle the tasks you are going to be using them for every day. Are they all the same model year? In general, newer is better but that's not a hard and fast rule.
So without me knowing my co-worker who is also the photography buff snapped a picture of my car in the parking lot yesterday using some kind of polarizing lens and emailed it to me this morning. I think it turned out really well despite my sunshade in the window and being fairly dusty in spots.

Accord or CX-5, imo. I'm biased towards the Accord, admittedly.

I've had several people of different walks of life say to others that it's the best thing they've ever heard ... not "car", thing. I presume this includes concerts, "I love you", baby's first word, etc. ;)

All of the cars I test drove before buying the TTRS sounded better in person than on any video clip and that includes the TTRS. Pretty awesome to be able to enjoy something like that whenever you want, right? =)
By s y Go To PostAll the Cars have clean carfaxes.I concur with Smokey in that I lean towards the Accord or the CX-5 but that's purely a personal preference and the fact that they will be more engaging to drive than the Camry. The Accord would likely get you better overall gas mileage but the CX-5 is the more usable configuration being a crossover. Have you checked insurance rates on the three cars? I would think all three would be fairly close but its worth it to know that there aren't any weird surprises when it comes time to move your coverage over.

You nailed it. It’s good to step back and appreciate the privilege of being able to fire our cars up at will. Fist bump.
You’re right, it’s hard for a phone or laptop to replicate the depth and “3D-ness” of the sound, not to mention the 130dB+. ;)

I think you’ve got it right. Drive it stock until you’ve enjoyed enough the original experience as designed by Lamborghini. Especially since you have the limited special edition. Then, take it to the next level when you’re ready. Depending on how extreme you go, it can feel like getting a new car post-install.
I just saved a bunch of money on my home and auto insurance...by switching to AAA.
3 cars down from $5000 annually to $3500. And home insurance down an extra $100.
AAA will only insure if you do both home and auto. But the benefits are well worth it.

what are your daily drivers?
135i M-Sport Coupe w/ N55 motor and DCT. Mine also has the BMW Performance suspension (dealer upgrade over the "standard" M-Sport suspension). I love it. It's the best bang for the buck if you want something legitimately fun and don't want to spend M2/M4 money.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostWhat happened to the M4, K?
Hey, buddy - sold it. Fantastic only-car for the enthusiast. Near perfect for that use case, actually. I just found it way too nice to use as a true beater and not quite exciting enough to take it out purely just to drive with the nearly straight-piped 458 in the garage. The fully depreciated smaller-footprint 135i fit my needs much better (and I’m finding that it’s actually a majestic backroads car in its own right). The 135i makes me want a 1M - the E82 1-Series is BMW’s hidden gem.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostYeah, the 1M is the glove.

2016 X5. Pretty much need an SUV for Chicago winters.
Lease is up this December. Might swap for 2019 Macan GTS or I-PACE.
I daily drive any of my 3 cars. I don't care. The XF gets the most mileage on it because it's also the family car, though.
May have found a nearby body shop to respray the panels on my 370Z, and they have incredibly high reviews on every platform. Going to get quotes either today or tomorrow. :O
Much excite

It likely depends on where you do your daily driving. I tried (put 15k miles on the M4 in less than a year) and found that the majority of my DD miles were low-quality no-fun miles, and doing them in the M made little sense. I found myself enjoying the comfort and anonymity of DD'ing the loaners more than the M when the car was in for service.
I just saw an orange 2019 ZR1 near my house. It looks WORSE in person than it does in pictures. From a distance it looked like a Corvette with a terrible body kit and comically huge wing...until I realized "oh right...that's the ZR1. Ew..."

Also got winter tires.
I had my first opportunity to drive home on some of my favorite backroads during a driving rainstorm today and it was an eye-opening experience. The TTRS is absolutely unflappable when it comes to extra legal speeds while in the wet. It just hunkered down and stuck to the road with nary a wiggle or stray movement and didn't feel appreciably different than when I drive at the same speeds in the dry. I know the chassis on the TTRS has gotten some flack from the enthusiast press for not being as "fun" as something like a 718 or M2 but it sure does pay dividends in foul weather.
I can remember a few of my sports cars in the past that were butt-clenching experiences at even moderate speeds in the rain. Not so now. This new car is so far terrific at being an all-weather performer.

Honestly, I don't understand the logic of reviews comparing the TTRS to the 718. Every review bashes on the 718's exhaust and dull engine. Meanwhile the TTRS sounds leagues better, looks borderline exotic, is considerably faster...but because it only handles 95% as good as the 718 it loses?
It wins in virtually every metric, except getting edged out in handling (which quite frankly, could be fixed with a set of better tires anyway)...yet it takes the overall loss. So the car that sounds lousy, has a duller motor, is considerably slower, perhaps even doesn't look quite as nice...is better?

Interesting. How many Ferraris/exotics have you owned?
Slaent-pleb question...
Are TSW Nurburging wheels cool or not?
I'm looking to get new tires within 2 months so I'm starting to plan out my purchase. For some reason I can't find bronze RPF1's that's specced for a GTI so I'm thinking the 'ring or the BBS SR's. And yes I know the VMR and Neuspeeds are standard GTI fare, but I want to be different lol. Hell, I'm even thinking of the fifteen52 Tarmac's so I can go rally style but idk if I want to buy a heavier wheel compared to stock lol.
But if I can find bronze RPF1's tho... that's definitely where I'm going.
As for tires, seeing as I drive more than 300 miles a week, I'm probably just gonna go cheap like the Cooper Zeon RS3-G1s or something similar. I'd get the Pilot Sport A/S3's but idk if I want to spend a lot of money for something that may not last lol.
But if y'all have any recommendations for wheel/tire combo, do drop em.

Dont know about wheels but I would get good tires.
My dad said never skimp on what's between you and the ground, so good bed, shoes and tires. It's the only contact you have with the road. Shitty tires are like getting a new 4K OLED TV and feeding it a 480p signal. You're dulling the dynamics that the car was engineered with in mind.

Oh I agree, I don't really skimp on anything when I buy anything lol.
The RS3-G1s for example actually have pretty good reviews in Tire Rack: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Cooper&tireModel=Zeon+RS3-G1
But we'll see, if I can find the A/S3's on the cheap, I'm probably gonna go for that instead.
jongkookie - get the A/S3's. My dad has them on his BMW 3 series and he got between 40 and 50k miles out of his last set. Obviously driving habits play a part but if you keep them rotated they will be a great tire for you and are worth the cost.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostHonestly, I don't understand the logic of reviews comparing the TTRS to the 718. Every review bashes on the 718's exhaust and dull engine. Meanwhile the TTRS sounds leagues better, looks borderline exotic, is considerably faster…but because it only handles 95% as good as the 718 it loses? Here's my take on that Alpha. Reviewers, especially those who are tracking the cars back to back and have some driving skill (or think they do), like to find the absolute limits and then base a lot of their comments on how these cars perform at or near the limit and what kind of lap time they put down while doing it. The 718 and M2 are extremely predictable and progressive at that level whereas the TTRS can go from mild push to snap oversteer depending on how the driver is handling it and the chassis does not communicate with you on the same level as those other cars. I also think those other two cars have some extra energy or vibe that comes through to the driver (and that's probably part of that chassis communication) whereas the TTRS excels at feeling solid, refined and completely buttoned down at speed.
It wins in virtually every metric, except getting edged out in handling (which quite frankly, could be fixed with a set of better tires anyway)…yet it takes the overall loss. So the car that sounds lousy, has a duller motor, is considerably slower, perhaps even doesn't look quite as nice…is better?
The 718 especially is closer to a pure sports car and excels at being one (except for the sound, which doesn't match up to the rest of the car's brilliance) but the TTRS is the better road car and is better for me and the way that I drive on a daily basis. And that's why I bought one. It was just a case of looking at the available options and what I wanted most out of a car and then going for the one that checked all of those boxes and would be the best to live with on a daily basis while still being fun and sexy.
The TTRS has plenty of sizzle for me and the powertrain has enough charisma and charm that I can't see myself every getting tired of it. I don't need a car that excels at 10/10ths but I do need one that is fantastic between 1 and 7/10ths or so (which is about as high as I would ever push a car on public roads anyway) and (my strong opinion) I don't think there is a better all around sports coupe at or near the price I paid for the TTRS (just under $70k). Everything else was either too big, too heavy, took a step down in interior quality, didn't sound as good, wasnt as comfortable, had worse tech and MMI onboard or had worse use of space considering I don't actually need a back seat that fits people but I can always use more cargo area. Oh and at 20mpg city and 29mpg highway this thing gets great gas mileage for a car with 400 horsepower.
The best advice I can give any enthusiast (and this was a hard lesson for me) is not to purchase a car based on what the automotive press says is the best in class. Reviews can be a starting point but much more valuable are the perspectives of the actual owners and the only really useful reviews are the long term tests where they keep a car for 6 months or a year and then write about it. You don't want to spend hard earned money on a "fling" car. Spend it on the car that you want to marry and live with because it has high compatibility with how you will be using it and how well it does those things that are most important to you. That's the basis for a great long term relationship.
