She's back, and repaired, and no longer spits power steering fluid at full lock, no longer rubs when going over small bumps, and the turbo no longer sticks at low temps!

I...like the Senna. McLaren knows it's not a pretty car. But everything on it is purely for function. At 800HP with 2700lbs, this is going to be as fast a P1. Maybe even a Chiron.
By jongkookie Go To PostBrehs, it's done!!
I saw you posted some on IG. And man, what a difference. Looks soooooo much more premium now.
So update on a sporty 3rd car search: added an E46 BMW M3 now to the list. I know someone (Mikey?) recommended it, but I still have some very large reservations, especially because of reliability.
I'm stunned at how inexpensive the car has gotten. There are tons of them under $15K, but worryingly...they're all convertibles? Does anybody know why? It's so bizarre.
Also, got to sit inside a 2012 Audi R8 4.2...with a gated shifter. And a 2015 Viper.
Three things on the Audi: amazing clutch feel and perfect pedal travel. The shifter is actually incredibly heavy in feel, not quite tossable or ideal for super fast shifting. 2-3 shifts will definitely require very careful precision.
A few things on the Viper: The last time I sat in one was the day it was revealed in NY Auto Show - I was the first person at the reveal to jump in and sit. So, first thing: incredibly long hood. You sit so far back in the car, and it's extremely intimidating to see that much metal ahead of you. Shifter feels amazing, throws are superb. But the clutch is bewilderingly long in travel, I had to extend my entire leg. It didn't feel comfortable no matter how I adjusted my seats. It's just too damn long. Lastly, front visibility is very, very poor. A solid 1/4 maybe 1/3 of my view outside of the car was obscured by the roofline curving down in front of me. And I'm only 6'1 and had the seat down low enough.

Dude, when I looked into buying an E46 M3 a few years before I got the M3, they were all convertibles as well. In Portland. With SMG. It was maddening LOL

Driver's examples with reasonable miles on them are going for $25K+, with $30k not being unreasonable.
You're seeing a ton for that price because they all need a ton of work, basically. It's not one of the more reliable/simple cars, and they require a decent amount of preventative work/maintenance once they get above $60k.
That's essentially what I'm figuring, as well. A lot of them are between 60-75K miles. Look clean inside and out, and have 6MTs. But all convertible. The same car in a coupe commands a premium of $5K. Really annoying. And before I commit to an E46, I'll be hunting for a good BMW shop.

Ahhh, convertible. That's the other cheap one because enthusiasts want the coupe. You might be able to find a gem if you're okay with a convertible.
The less expensive way to go is the 330ci ZHP, or a 128i/135i. The 330ci ZHP is 9/10 of an M3 at 1/2 the price, and the 135i is genuinely a better car with far fewer maintenance issues, despite being turbo.

I think I'm actually okay with a convertible M3, as weird as that sounds. The ZHPs don't have the visual flare I'd want out of a BMW. And I've had a BMW 335i that I'd never own again. N54 and N55s are just unreliable, but the worst is all of the surrounding hardware that just randomly breaks (COUGHwaterpumpCOUGH).
Speaking of BMW, does anyone have comment about 06-10 E83 X3 reliability? Seems kind of sketchy but hard to say, can’t find any with much north of 100k miles which for that age is odd.

I usually describe mine as basically a M3 without the engine...

Just had a random dream last night that the fuel pump fell out of my car. The joys of BMW ownership!
Had a freakout moment today...was driving home and saw a 2018 Ford GT in a dark grey.
Literally screamed, but couldn't make a U-turn anywhere. So pissed. I wish i see it again

Oddly enough, I spotted a 1st gen Ford GT this past weekend in the classic white with blue stripes exterior. Was in the opposite lane on a highway so I didn’t get a good look, sadly. No scream but man, still majorly handsome hunk of automobile.
The 1st Gen Ford GT's from the mid 2000's are still one of my favorite automobiles just in terms of looks and attitude. I know the new one is far more effective as a race and track car but the older ones just exude class and testosterone at the same time. There's a permanent place in my dream garage for one of those.

Yeah it's amazing how the front end just looks more special now. My friends think I'm crazy for spending ungodly amounts of money for some headlights but they look so good I don't care.
Those U's as DRL's are one of the best things to ever exist. I'm glad car companies are making cool designs out of them instead of just sticking a light bulb or whatever lol.
So I admit right off the bat that I have a little bit of an irrational love affair with the Audi RS3 and TT-RS mostly because of that 5 cylinder motor. I pop in to the Audiworld forums at least once a week and just read what's going on and found this thread this morning. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/tt-mk3-discussion-207/2018-ttrs-performance-2929710/
Summary for anyone who doesn't want to look at the graph and read the thread: New 2018 TT-RS 0-60 was recorded at ~3.45 seconds and then the same test was repeated after 5000 miles break-in and at 35 degrees fahrenheit and the time dropped to 3.17. That blows my mind a little bit.
There's more info on the graph than just the 0-60 time but that one really jumped out at me and goes to show how bonkers fast that sub $70k car actually is.
I've got about a year before I will start seriously looking for my next ride but both the RS3 and the TT-RS are high on the list because of their luxury to performance to price ratio (AND THAT MOTOR!!).

The TT-RS has always been a crazy little car. There are videos of the MKII TT-RS with an ECU tune running side-by-side with an Audi R8 V10 (1st gen) in a drag race. Think about that.
So the other day in a local car spotters fb group, someone spotted a Countach in the wild. I for sure thought it wasn’t gonna be topped for a while but I was wrong. Earlier today someone snapped a pic of an F40 in the highway. Why haven’t I gotten that lucky :( lol. I haven’t even seen an F40 at any recent event I’ve attended.
I use to see a few Countach's back in NYC and have seen a few here in FL too.
An F40 I've only ever seen once at a Concourse, though. Same with the F50.

Funny y'all are talking about Ferrari's... I was out to get lunch earlier and I was driving by the Ferrari dealer next to my office and a FXX was just getting out of the parking lot. I tried to snap some pics but it was fast af and I was about to go to a stop sign so I didn't have time. :(
Then again I can't really multitask while driving to save my life lol. Idk how some people can drive stick and still use their phone. Like if I need to check another route in Waze, I struggle hard af lmao. And if I need to type, yeah no fuck that, you either call me or wait until I get to my destination before I can text back.

I can't type anything on my phone while driving, so I generally avoid doing so. I have memorized where the camera button is so I can quickly bring it up to take pictures of cars I see though.

That's odd, an FXX on the road? They're not street legal cars, and Ferrari only allows their owners to track them. Only 30 were ever made, so I would've done everything I could to get near one and take a billion pics. No fucks given from me.

Yeah, I avoid it. I do love that Androids have a shortcut in the corner for the camera (and some even have a camera button, like Sony phones). I will only reply to a text at a light and it'll be something quick like "cool, driving now" or just call them to talk on bluetooth. But if friends send me messages on WhatsApp, I just hold the record button and send voice messages.
I swipe left to open up the camera on the iPhone lock screen. It’s pretty fast on the iPhone 7 but even then I only manage shitty pics unless I’m not moving. I don’t text at all and the only time I look at my phone is to change songs on Spotify. I wish Apple had something like the android auto app for the phone.
Even with Apple CarPlay I still struggle... blows my mind how texting and driving became prevalent tbh.
Might not have been an FXX then but the back looked like it. I remember the side mirrors had a long and thin shaft connected to the doors, and the rear looking square/rectangular. Maybe it was a LaFerrari instead? Idk, I don't really keep with Ferarri's coz I can't afford them lmao.

2018 White Civic Type R at a local dealer, that say it can probably do 6k instead of 10k mark up. I'm soo tempted but I would still feel stupid to pay 40k for a Civic.....

I hear they're putting those windows in the next-gen Mustangs so you can see the curbs as you leave...
Test drove a CX-5 today in the vain hope it would match my SUV requirements. As expected, it’s pretty much perfect but needs another 100-150 HP to meet what I consider to be acceptable acceleration. Awesome interior and it handles pretty good for an SUV though. Looks like I’m back to saving the dough for an F-Pace, Macan or Velar.
Tempted to check out a V6 Rav-4, maybe tomorrow. Guessing the interior and stereo are deal breakers. That and the infamously bad whappy suspension Toyota stuff usually has.

With Christmas being a week away, it's time for jongkookie's annual "my car is a reindeer" shot:
This one involved a little bit of trickery as the LED's are too damn bright to do one shot lol. So I had to take two shots... one is a long exposure(too lazy to setup my flashes and umbrellas, since it's going to be one picture anyway) with the lights off then the other of just the lights bright enough. Merged the two and we've got the shot.
And for anyone curious, here's 2016 and 2015.

We had one of our family Holiday gatherings this weekend and my wife's cousin's husband had a new GTI with Performance Pack and DSG. I complimented him on his choice of ride and evidently he's as big of a car nut as we are.
Also my local Honda dealer just sat a black Type R out next to the road on Friday. It is literally in the most visible spot they have on the lot. I'm not interested but I am curious how much they want for it.

On the real though, I only do this for the photo-op. The nose doesn't really have a place to hang on so I'm too scared to drive around with it lol.
