E60 and F10 manuals were great. F10 had a slick shifter, great rev-matching features, and all.
But E60s S85 with 6MT were GOAT. That engine was sublime. And still is. Plus this new M5 has ditched the DCT, it's a standard ZF8 automatic now. So they've further distanced the marquee from its former self.
That said. Audi is run by morons:

Speaking of Audi, maybe the board is recognizing they're not going in the right direction:
The supervisory board of Volkswagen's premium carmaker Audi will meet on Monday to replace four of its top executives, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Sources said last month the board was preparing to replace finance chief Axel Strotbek, production chief Hubert Waltl, human resources head Thomas Sigi and sales chief Dietmar Voggenreiter.
I really want a Cayman after talking to two more people last night who have experience driving them but after looking at my finances, I can't justify purchasing one. :( I guess I'll just keep my eye out for in case one drops below 40k.
They should hit $40k in a couple years, maybe less. To clarify, this outgoing model with the N/A 6 should hit $40k relatively soon.
There's a Cayman S for $49k with 50k miles: http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/details/details.ipl?md5=00e2d99c51a2f284f288063eb229d984&url=usa

So, you'll see them hit that price point soon enough.

I told Alpha already, but there's two BRAND NEW 2016 F-Type Rs (yes, with the 5.0L Supercharged V8) in Monterey and I'm biting my nails not to drive down there right now. There's a white one with red interior and black wheels and it's haaaawt.
Actually, Reilo, do you see anything wrong with this car? https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-Porsche-Cayman-d993#listing=176422725

Yea, it's not an S :P
But if you don't want the extra power then that's a fine get. Low miles, too. Porsche reliability is GOAT-tier so no need to worry about that as much, but an extended warranty would serve you well. Ideally you find a CPO in your price range but it is what it is.
I'd also run a Carfax on that car.

Tons of 2009s-2011s for under 40k. Plus you get hydraulic steering.
Pre-981 Caymans are fucking ugly though, especially the interior.
Stick with 2012+ for humanities sake.

Haha. As long as I know which year + models are the ones that have the performance I need and lack the issues I don't, I can judge for myself on looks. :p
I appreciate all the feedback guys. I'm taking this slow so I don't regret it. And it's not like they are going to be sold out and marked up like a NES or SNES classic, so I can afford to do so. :p

Yes Mikey, really. That shit is no bueno especially compared to:
You on crack if you don't think that's a HUGE upgrade.

Ya, keep in mind the hydraulic steering part. The S engine is not much different between the two.
Before making any decision, just get a little seat time in both. That should help clear up any small issues and help make a decision. For me, if I'm after a Cayman, interior technology and design is fairly minimal in terms of importance because I'm after the driving experience at the expense of lots of things. As long as materials are nice, I'm happy. I prefer a spartan interior for a driver's car.

I hate the rear and profile on the pre-981 Caymans . The tumors on the bumper and how the roofline bubbles just too much:
They fixed all of that with the 981 by giving it a more horizontal stance so the proportions look much nicer.
They fixed all of that with the 981 by giving it a more horizontal stance so the proportions look much nicer.
The 981 interior is pretty ugly with those big ass, ugly vents. The upright 90-degree consoles of that era were always ugly looking to begin with. I never liked them. Just like one giant slab of plastic and buttons. No flow or design.
And yeah, the rear end of the 981s was ugly too. Not as much on the Boxsters, but Caymans...yikes. Chrysler Crossfire territory of awkwardness.

Pretty decent improvement over the last model, although more evolutionary than revolutionary imo. They could clean up the rear a bit with less chrome though, and I wish the headlights stuck a bit closer to the concept by being the more oblong shape rather than the more circular design with the hood more slanted down as I feel the front is too flat.
The interior is damn nice though and a vast improvement.
Johnny Lieberman says it's a 2 door Panamera basically. You can definitely see it in the interior layout, though some of the materials in the Bentley look nicer. Quilted Leather always makes me swoon.
I need a recommendation for a new car based on experiences of yours or people you know. I'm looking for it to just be my basic go to vehicle, work, groceries, gym, going around town that sort of deal. I'm not offroading this bitch or driving to Canada in it.
-American made(not a dealbreaker but a preference. I don't want to wind up with some boring ass civic)
-Good gas mileage because I'm not going for hardcore power here
-A line that ages well and is a good used car cause I'm really not trying to buy new
-Something not gigantic. The size of a CR-V is about as big as I'm willing to go. I'm ok with a sedan(2 or 4 door), truck or compact but I don't want no fucking monster.
-Obviously not pricey as fuck because I'm not even technically fulltime at my job

It's kinda slim pickings if you want something American that fits your criteria, simply because:
A line that ages well and is a good used car cause I'm really not trying to buy newBut that's my personal opinion on the matter, so maybe you like the look of what you're seeking. Do you have any cars in mind thus far?
Maybe more important than American is just availability of parts in case something does break? Or was there some other reason?
I have been driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata since it came out and have over 90k miles on it with zero complaints. I bought it for ~23k new, so I imagine it can be found for under 18k used by now. I drive mostly highway and interstate and get 34-35 mpg very consistently.
It is quick enough to easily merge from any on-ramp and handles better than an earlier year Camry my mom used to drive. Nothing has broken on it; has only needed routine maintenance. Very large interior and trunk.

It's more an aesthetic thing for me
So do you want a car or truck? It's quite a difference between them. And since trucks do hold their value well the $18k range will be also tough if you want low miles.
Yeah you just have to play with your priorities. What's low miles? Do you care how old? Just dicking around I found a Silverado 2006, extracab with 30k miles for like 16.5k. If you want something newer it will cost more and /or have more miles.
American made =/= American brand, FWIW. Subarus and BMWs are made in America. Ram HDs (2500/3500) are made in Mexico.

You could nab a 2006-2010 Tundra for under 18k, and it basically would not lose value. Sure, a little bit, but not like other stuff. Especially if you go for a 5.7L 4x4. Sure, it's a Japanese brand, but it was designed in the US and assembled here. It's more American than my Ram 2500. Sucks on gas mileage, but I'm not sure why you listed trucks if gas mileage is something you're after.
On the car side of things, my general recommendation shortlist for non enthusiasts is: Toyota, Subaru, any Nissan/Infiniti with a 3.5/3.7L V6, and Mazda. Low mileage, 15-18k would fetch you a really nice Mazda 3, or Subaru BRZ/Scion FRS. If you're okay with going higher mileage, you could nab a nice G37 sedan or coupe, or WRX.
I'd really suggest checking out a Mazda 3 though. Even after driving pretty nice cars for awhile, it almost won me over with the build quality and interior for a nice daily driver. Mazda is killin it in design and fuel efficiency while retaining a feeling of "fun".

Even if your car is assembled here, the parts were sent here from over seas lol.
I agree with the Truck thing. Mileage sucks on Truck. Not sure why the Tundra is so bad. It's worse than the Chevy. My Tahoe gets the same gas mileage as my friends Tacoma. How many miles is he driving? Not sure what year but the newer chevy V8's all drop from 8 to 4 cyl when cruising. I average 17MPG when my wife drives all surface street, but I've got 22 MPG on a tank and over a 50 mile stretch averaged a 24MPG best.
As someone who won't be buying a car for enthusiast needs until I'm in my 50's, I love the fuck out of my Subaru Outback. Reliable, has tons of utility and has good mileage. Because I got the outback I can take it anywhere (minus big bolders and shit obviously). I can't count how many times I've gone hunting in the outback and been on trails with all these lifted 4x4 trucks and I'm just smashing in comfort.
The utility from the outback is great. I've put 8' long 2x4's in the cab. Tied crazy shit to the roof rack and can put the back seat down and fit a gang of stuff in there.
The outback is just too big for what we Need. And for my job, i'm largely just driving through city traffic 5 days a week. And a trip to the shops once a week.
We only need a car to tow a trailer to a camp site 2 - 3 times a year. And do the 45minute drive to the coast 8 - 10 times a year, while being a little more practical than a sedan. Which should make going to parks etc a little easier.
Forester fits that perfectly. And the power output is far above any other in that range (mainly because the top of the line one has the same boxer engine as the WRX).
Would buy one today, but Subaru announced their new global platform in march that all their cars are going to be base on. There are already spy shots of the new forester driving around Japan. So it looks like it should get a whole new model next year. Just not sure my Ford Falcon will last till then. She's going on 15 years old and stuff just keeps happening to it.
The power thing is the only reason i'm not getting a Mazda CX-5.

The CX-5 is really really good. And the one we'd probably get. But i worry about the power output over all, when towing. I know none of them will have the low down torque a 6cyl would. But the Honda with a 1.5L Turbo engine is stupidly small.
How much towing capacity do you need? The CX-5 is rated at 2,000 lbs, which is more than the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester 2.0XT (the model with almost 100lb/ft of torque more than the CX-5!), which are both rated at 1,500lbs.

I've got the Subaru Forester XT and Mazda CX-5 Akera at 750kg, and the Honda CR-V at 600kg un braked. (i.e. the trailer has no brakes it self). Most of the market is at 750, the CR-V sets the low bar at 600kg.
The CX-5 has 140kw / 251nm
Forester has 177kw /350nm
How much would i NEED ? nfi. probably no more than 400 - 500kg at absolute worst. But the 750kg limit is an Australian standard i believe. Even a V8 landcruiser is rated at 750 unbraked.
The Honda comes with a 5 year unlimited km waranty though. Mazda / Subaru are only 3 year.
Hrmm, wonder why the discrepancy between N/A and AUS then. Everything I can find about the 2.0XT towing capacity says 1,500lbs.

We took our own quaffs of the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 V-8 in Costa Brava, Spain, in this lighter version of Aston’s newly redesigned flagship. Like Bentley before it, Aston is performing a bit of posh GT juggling, with both eight and 12 balls: Affirming the enduring appeal and spinning complexity of its V-12s, while simultaneously defining the V-8 version as the “driver’s car” of the duo. Andy Palmer, Aston’s chief executive, said the 12-cylinder DB11 is “the intercontinental missile” you’d aim toward the horizon on an all-day jaunt, while the V-8 is the car for curves and canyon detours.
With driving impressions under media embargo until Septemper 27, we can’t describe the way the Aston tamed the curves in the Pyrenees in this Mediterranean coastal region.
The twin-turbo V-8’s 503 horsepower may be down a bit against the 600 of the bi-turbo V-12, but its 513 pound-feet of torque nearly matches the 516 of the 12-cylinder. Now, consider that the V-8 and its cooling system weigh 253 fewer pounds than the V-12’s setup. Plus that V-8 is shoved almost entirely behind the front axle, which shifts the front-to-rear weight balance to 49 percent / 51 percent, versus 51/49 for the V-12 model.Mostly a wash in performance it sounds like.
The rollout goes like this: This year brings an all-new Vantage sports car, including an available manual gearbox that defies current transmission trends. Next comes a new Vanquish in 2018, the DBX crossover in 2019, a mid-engine Ferrari 488 rival—also with a stick shift on offer—in 2020Can't wait for the Vantage and Vanquish. Hoping the next Vantage is closer in price to the F-Type and Carrera S.

The four-door i5 will have a drive range somewhere between 311 and 435 miles on a single charge. While that's quite a spread, even the low end of that would be impressive. Autocar quotes BMW R&D chief Klaus Fröhlich as saying of the i5, "The i model we have planned for launch in 2021 will incorporate our fifth-generation battery electric system — a step that will take us to the next level." This battery system is "a big leap in energy density and overall range" over the i3, he said.Looks like every carmaker is shooting for a 2020-2021 release of a fully electric sedan. In 18 months time, we won't be talking about Tesla being the only game in town anymore.
