By AlphaSnacks Go To PostAcceleration is based on horsepower, bruv. Torque gets you off the line quick, but it's horsepower that keeps you propelling forward and allows for ludicrous top-speeds. Example: F1 cars have like 150lb ft. of torque, but something like 800HP. Torque is a function of horsepower, you can't have one without the other. Your torque band is what you use to make smooth passes using lower revs, which prevents you from having to rev the car up high to pass, thus conserving fuel. This is why diesels and turbocharged cars are so fuel efficient, torque = MPG.Appreciate it! That backs up everything I was reading yesterday about my question. I'm a little scaredy cat right now and mostly shift at rpms lower than the 4,000 Porsche recommended to stay under during break - in. I'm well past break - in now, but I don't want to get pulled over or anything.
You upshift at redline in your car, if you shift too early, you'll shift into a band that makes less horsepower.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostWith Tesla shutting down all stores, I still don't understand their plan going forward. How do you test drive a car? I hope they keep their employees around, give them employee cars, and allow them to use those cars to schedule test drives online. That would be the ideal scenario, and quite frankly the future. No more going to dealers, filling out needless paperwork, getting annoyed by sales reps, etc. They have no fucking clue what they're doing. They're doing an aboutface now.
No. The dealer comes to you with a car and lets you drive it around doing something like a run to and from your daily commute to work.
Otherwise, no test drive, no buy. I would never, EVER, buy a car would a test drive.
Tesla has u-turned on plans to close most of its showrooms worldwide and announced price hikes for most of its electric vehicles.https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-u-turns-plans-close-152700056.html
Tesla announced last month that it would shut most of its stores to cut costs so it could sell its lower-priced Model 3 for $35,000 (£27,000). The company continues its shift to towards online-only sales, but now says it won't close as many stores as originally thought.
The $35,000 base Model 3 will still be available, but the company is raising prices by 3 per cent on all other models.
In a Monday filing with government regulators, Tesla now says it closed 10 per cent of its stores, but a few of those will now remain open. Another 20 per cent are being evaluated and some could remain open.
The company gave no numbers, but said it would close only about half the stores that it had intended to. It has 378 stores and service centres worldwide and about 100 stores in the US.
“As a result of keeping significantly more stores open, Tesla will need to raise vehicle prices by about 3 percent on average worldwide,” a company's statement said. “We will only close about half as many stores, but the cost savings are therefore only about half.”
It is time for Kib to FLOOR THAT BITCH. Just do it somewhere that you know there isn't a cop.
After seeing the "premium interior" on the Model 3, I shudder to think what the entry level one looks like. That one's worse than this Ford Edge rental I have right now while the GLK is in the shop.

Speaking of Tesla...
A second ex-Tesla employee has filed an official whistleblower tip with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) alleging the company illegally surveilled its employees. Former global security lead Sean Gouthro filed the tip on January 24th, according to whistleblower lawyer Stuart Meissner, via Business Insider.https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/11/18259786/tesla-spying-employees-security-manager-whistleblower-gigafactory-nevada
Gouthro can also reportedly corroborate claims Tesla interfered with internal investigations into the alleged theft of $37 million of raw material at the Gigafactory, and failed to disclose this and other illegal activities to the authorities and to shareholders, Meissner said Monday.
Meissner said Gouthro’s tip backs up the account of Karl Hansen, another former member of Tesla’s security team and a client of Meissner’s. Hansen filed a whistleblower tip last August that said Tesla had installed “specialized router equipment within its Nevada Gigafactory designed to capture employee cell phone communications and/or retrieve employee cell phone data.” Hansen had also claimed his team found evidence of a “substantial drug trafficking” ring at the Gigafactory, as well as the massive theft of raw materials, but that Tesla “instructed [him] not to report the thefts to outside law enforcement.”
The Z has been pissing me off lately...had a check engine light come on weeks after the tune was done. It was a random misfire code, no specific cylinder reported. Drove it a few times to see if it'd trigger an actual cylinder, but it seemed to have driven fine. So I cleared the code, cycled the car multiple times (start/stop/start/stop, etc). Drove the car today after about a week, and heard a sound...spark knock during ginger 1st gear acceleration from 2000RPM-2500RPM. If I give it proper throttle, it won't knock. If I pussyfoot it: spark knock. Or at least, it sounds exactly like spark knock. It was also a pretty hot day today, which is when spark knock likes to occur most.
I have a brand new set of OEM plugs and just ordered a new set of coils. Will be replacing both on Friday, and told my tuner to retard the timing on the tune a little bit, as well. If those 3 things don't solve the issue...I'm just going to sell this car, at this point. My wife and I are pretty dead set on getting something Italian and rare, and surprisingly affordable when used. If the Z doesn't get its shit together, it's getting replaced.
Open it up. Do a pull from like 20 to 80. Enjoy your car. Redline is there for a reason, it doesn't hurt the engine. Engines have all sorts of safety built into them to prevent them from grenading. Usually a manufacturer builds an engine to run at xxxxRPM, but then sets the fuel cutoff and/or redline (they are different) to be 1000RPMs lower than that. Not an exact science, but generally speaking, you get what I'm saying.

No, hadn't heard of it, but the Cayenne and Panamera are some inspiring as fuck vehicles. The Taycan looks amazing too.
It's astounding and encouraging to hear though that their whole future now is based on electrification; that's good, very good.

720HP hahaaha
Ferrari needs to step it up with more, because the 720S absolutely decimated the 488GTB in every regard. And even the Pista wasn't capable of of beating the Mac. But there's no question that the Ferrari looks good, as always.
Also, the F8 sounds dull...and that Forza looking shit in the second video is absolute scust. Why would anyone use that in a press video?
Is it just me or is that Ferrari steering wheel ugly? Maybe I just really don't like that carbon fiber treatment.

The Cayman has spoiled me and I wish it was affordable enough for anyone to buy. Just a great balance of comfort and sport, power and efficiency, function and style.
The only part that stands out to me in how it doesn't quite live up to the standard of everything else is the center console, mostly phone integration and a somewhat disjointed UI. It is very quick and responsive, though.

🤔 🤔 🤔
Could they have possibly made it any less stylish? It looks less appealing than a typical Civic.
Those acceleration numbers are lower than what I expected for the non-"performance" models.

It's so ugly. And won't be released at $39k until 2021. Investors are wondering why they fuck they even bothered with the Model 3.
Also, how many 0-60 run times is it for the Performance version? I imagine that shit is battery draining af.

Brehs...replaced the coils and spark plugs on the 370Z yesterday. The spark plugs were absolute filth and looked shot. By comparison the plugs on my XKR with 35K miles looked practically new. Meanwhile, on my 370Z with 40K miles...awful. Absolutely awful. I suspect the moron who had my car prior filled it up with 87 or something. I'm not sure what could have caused these plugs to look this beat up and worn, besides low grade fuel for thousands and thousands of miles.
The car felt amazing after the tune up, though. Huge difference in smoothness and power. But unfortunately, what I think may be spark knock is still present...and it may NOT be spark knock, but rather some kind of transmission chatter. It only happens in 1st gear, 2K RPM, and very, very light throttle. If I give it more throttle, no sound. Pussy throttle? Chatters. Turns out a friend of mine back in NYC had the exact issue with his Nismo, had his transmission replaced under warranty, and the sound came back months later.
What the issue is, I have no idea. But it sounds more and more like clutch or flywheel chatter. Like the sound when you shut the car off with the clutch up...370Zs make this chattery noise as everything stops spinning. It's probably not terminal or dangerous. But annoying as fuck, because sometimes I accelerate gently and hear that shit. Either way, I think I'm unfortunately going to have to sell this car. I don't feel like hunting down the issue to fix it. I feel like this car has battled me too often in the past year I've been fixing it.
I have my mind set on something else already.

The Model Y looks like a fail to me, but then I have a hatred of "coupe" SUVs that borders on irrational.
Looks like no added ground clearance over Model 3
I have no idea how the hell that optional 3rd row is supposed to work with that roofline
Still hate the interior and think it's class below stuff
On the upside, the performance/price of the dual motor AWD is pretty excellent.

Well, glad I ordered all that stuff to fix chips and such for my Sonata as I just noticed I have a rock chip in front of the rear wheel well on the Cayman and ordered some touch-up paint to fix it. =/ Primer is still there, at least.
I guess Cadillac gave up trying to make a distinctive looking car:
That looks like what you'd expect a Pontiac to look like in 2019.
That looks like what you'd expect a Pontiac to look like in 2019.
both engines get a 10-speed automatic transmission.but why
I noticed something. I'm seeing a lot more Bentaygas lately than I've ever seen Bentley's in general. And it's not like it's any cheaper than rest of lineup. Were people with money really that thirsty for a super high end SUV?
I got to drive my Dad's 2017 F-150 this weekend and it was pretty darn good I have to say. He hasn't had it long (bought it used with about 15k miles on it) and what's interesting about it is that even though it is a 4 wheel drive XLT 4 door truck it only has the base, non-ecoboost V6 (3.5L I believe).
I really thought it was going to be a dog but around town it's completely fine. We went to Lowe's to pick up some stuff and he let me drive it back to the house in a mixture of stoplight to stoplight and then higher speed 4 lane roads and the only time it felt slow was when I was accelerating onto the 4 lane and even then it wasn't tragic.
What most surprised me about it though was the steering feel. It's nicely weighted and it has actual feedback coming through the wheel. I would need more time to make a really accurate appraisal but based on that trip I would say it's just as good as the steering in my Macan and that shocked me. I've never been a truck person but I could be quite contented driving that one so good job Ford?!
And just so that isn't completely about a truck (boring!) here's an awesome video featuring the beastly sounds of a 917k on track recently. This one gave me chills, folks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFUlMUo3h10

All good. Steering can be a little stiff, but the car is responsive and quick enough for my needs. Suspension is nice and stiff. big wheels too lol
By reilo Go To PostI'm thinking of doing the same on the F-Type. I just wanted to know the benefits of what you did.
Do it. Rain will bead right off, often times not even leaving your car dirty after it's dried. Bird shit won't eat through the clear. Dirt, dust, crud, bird shit, etc wipe right off with a simple quick detailer without any rubbing required. The gloss factor is crazy high too. The overall level of protection is simply amazing.

Before you do all that, try changing the trans fluid with half and half Redline D4 and Redline MTL90.
Took the RCZ out into the country after the gym this morning.
So much fun. The cabin is really quiet considering the suspension and 19 inch alloys. Leather everywhere, even the dashboard. Put 120 leisure miles on it since yesterday lol.

I had the ECU reverted back to stock to compare today. It's too cool outside to determine if it's spark knock or not. So I'll be properly driving the car tomorrow and see if it'll make the noise again.
ugh what
It sits on the CLS chassis, which is a modified E-Class chassis, so it's an AMG GT in name only. It costs as much as a Panamera Turbo S. And it's somehow as ugly as the original Panamera. They really messed up the rear of this. I thought we were done with these dog-squatting-to-take-a-shit cars.
Also it bugs me that the visual difference between traction control being on or off is the color. The TCS button still says "OFF" when it's actually "ON".
