By jar155 Go To PostThat's easier to deal with than the vaulted ceilings we have. It's like 20 feet off the floor even in our kitchen to change a got danged lightbulb.
This is my new remodel. I have vaulted ceilings (14') in two rooms that had ZERO downlights. Vaulted ceilings means no attic space to get on top of the fixture. I was lucky enough that I was able to fish some wire down the joists from the wall space in the attic into a square I cut out of the drywall in both rooms and then run switchlegs down the wall. No big patches in my newly textured ceiling lol.

Vaulted ceilings huh
First Class Slaent really is something else

My only extravagance is a pinball and arcade collection. I make my kids skip every 4th meal to afford that though.

I've got a wrap around garden. Good stuff. Big walls too.

Totally. An old employer had a 18 year old accord that only needed a total of £500 repairs outside of changing tires. Only reason he got rid of it is because some blind cunt drove a LandRover into the back of it.

Money doesn't buy taste
I was officially diagnosed with OCD. I'm not a compulsive hand washer or lock checker, it isn't like that for me. So, I guess I'll explain how it manifests in me. I guess that would explain a bit about what my brand of crazy looks like.
I have constant intrusive thoughts. They range from general disruption in my train of thought, which can just cause confusion, to compulsions to act. In the vast majority of cases I can deny the compulsion to act, but I can't deny the thought. So I'll have the thoughts, and I can't get rid of them. I'll think all day about things I don't want to think about, and it can ruin productivity big time. It can also swing my mood wildly.
I also have the hypersensitivity to sounds and I'll fixate on them. It sucks. I live with earbuds in and I have to do that or I have anxiety all the time. I'll get anxious by sounds, or I'll get anxious at the idea that I'll come across trigger sounds.
I constantly struggle with the compulsion to harm myself. I rarely act, but I always think about it. I can't pick up a knife without envisioning dragging it across my chest or arm. Sometimes I will want to wrap things around my neck. The other night I wrapped a guitar amp cable around my neck and left a few marks. I often think about hanging. Again, I don't want to do these things, but I can't stop the thoughts.
I have a lot of negative thoughts about myself. Body image, that I'm doing enough at work, at home, for friends, for society, etc., are all constant doubts.
I obsess hard about the well being of others. I'm always sure that people close to me are struggling and I want to fix it. I think I told you guys about Sara and her recent suicide, when you're all ready for a real bad story, I'll explain more about her.
There's other stuff, but these are the most common things.

I'm glad you're getting help and working through the issues. I've been in some dark places for extended periods of time. hope it gets better for you too.
Yeah man. Take care of yourself. My sister’s OCD affects her differently, but I know the urge to obsess over things isn’t easy.
Anyone else have any experience with smart home stuff and Alexa or some other system? I got some experience setting up stuff for my mother this weekend and even with just a couple items, her front room is pretty ace. A couple more Alexa wall dimmers and her whole downstairs will be smart.
Right now they can turn on and off the lights at their lamps. They can also dim to from 0-100% (which is actually how it turns off, power to the bulb never stops, it just fully dims). Philips Hue bulbs have the ability to change color too. Not just the white scale (which is rad), but also the full color spectrum. I recently set up their Harmony Companion remote and that hooks up to Alexa too. So you can turn the TV on and off, switch inputs and change channel and volume on the receiver all via voice command now too. Once they get a couple wall switches, they'll be able to control their down lights. That's when I can set up routines like, "Alexia I'm home" will turn on various switch legs to a specific dimmed level. "alexa turn the downlights off", "alexia turn the lamps on", "alexa turn the lamps red" etc etc. It was all very easy too.
I'm particularly stoked because I got fully addressable alexa compatible downlight fixtures for my remodel. With switches, you can only control a switch leg, but with fully addressable fixtures, you can control specific lights. The Chandeliers that I'm adding will be controlled off Alexa dimmer switches and my bed side lamps will be controlled by the Philips hue bulbs. Someone abandoned the low voltage cables in my house for a doorbell, so I'm going to get a ring and turn various echo's and dots into chimes. I'm also going to get a Harmony Companion for my TV. I also have an Alexa compatible thermostat too.
So far I'm most impressed by the Philips Hue though. The color change is really fun. If you have pendants and lamps instead of canned downlights, I highly recommend them.

So I think most here remember by wife got boned out of a promotion that her company floated for her. Well she just got an offer at another place for more money for the same work and it's closer to the house we just bought. (3 city blocks close lol). Needless to say we're both stoked. It's a huge stress relief for the month to month after our mortgage increase, and she so close to the house we both now get to spend more time with our children and less time in traffic.
Time to plan a nice dinner this weekend for celebration!

🤔
Seriously though, congrats. Must be a great load off your back.
I want to be there when she puts in her notice so bad. After her boss pulled the promotion, she asked how she can advance in the company and his literal words were “jump ship”. They only pay out major increases with an accompanying offer. She’s just gonna go into His office and say, “welp I jumped ship” and turn down any counter they give.
so a while back i had posted that i was feeling unfulfilled, to put it simply, and that i felt like i needed to become a teacher or a youth counselor or just something that i can impact people's lives with.
kind of stumbled into what i was looking for in a roundabout way. everyone i'm around knows that the gym is like yoga for me mentally (i just go to yoga to socialize mostly). it allows me to relax, work my life out and clear my mind. the last thing i'm thinking about is the actual weight i'm about to lift or whatever set i'm about to tackle. i ABSOLUTELY prefer to work out by myself. so whenever folks have asked to workout with me i've used to be a little hesitant because it kind of stresses me out to guide people through a workout and teach what i just picked up on my own via trial/error and watching a shitload of Youtube.
i've got a core crew of 4-6 people i work out with regularly depending on if i go to the gym near work or if i just wait until i get back home. and then some folks where if they're working on something i'll just jump in on a set w/ them. i guess folks are taking a look back at themselves since its the new year and i've gotten thanks from so many people for helping them get stronger, rebuild their confidence, get back in shape, get better at whatever sport they like or even just being a friend to them. even some of the random folks i just chat with occasionally at the gym have thanked me for the help i give or just being an example of staying after it regularly.
IDK if that means it's my calling and i need to become a trainer and get cert'd up (mainly for all the nutrition stuff since its a weak point. i just eat whatever personally). because i dont want it to become a place i dread going like i dread going to work. but it just made me feel good to know that i've helped people in some way. it's allowed me to get a lot closer with my friends/coworkers as well (gym -> dinner/drinks is a frequent activity). its also given me more confidence in my ability to lead.

Personally I feel lucky to have a job I don’t hate. I don’t get up in the morning looking forward to work, but I don’t wake up dreading it either. If you can find success in doing something you like while also feeling accomplishment in helping others, I woukd at least give it some serious thought.
I turned down the offer because the raise wasn’t as big as I thought it’d be and I’d have to work 90 hours a week. But staying here doesn’t feel like a long term solution either :/
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostActually that’s pretty much what they said
Tell them you want an assistant lol
damn that's 13 hours a day. they wylin.
true. i don't hate my job really. just the drive and who i have to work for. the people i work with are great. im very much at a crossroads rn but i'm leaning toward moving but that's largely for social and QoL reasons. i could probably convince them to let me do my job remote, but the other person that does it says its miserable because management is constantly blowing her up and being annoying.
