Like don't go there expecting to be doing stuff every second.
Go there expecting atleast a few days being lazy near a pool or on the beach.

By Kibner Go To PostAwesome! The heat and humidity was no joke. I'm glad I was able to stay with my aunt.
Ordered me some new floor vents just now. Was using metal ones and I was tired of how ugly they look. This is what the new stuff I just ordered looks like:

Do you guys have dehumidifiers in your AC Units?

Are floor vents an east coast thing? Old house thing? No attic thing? I would think a ceiling delivery would be more efficient to delivery cool air in a hot humid climate. I never see them in Cali.
By Fenderputty Go To PostDo you guys have dehumidifiers in your AC Units?I have no idea if I have a dehumidifier in my AC, tbh.

As far as floor vents go, this house is old and was originally made to be a hunting camp. It was on the river and had to be raised up to begin with as as having a tiny attic (on average, about a 1.5 feet high) so I guess it made the most sense to put in floor vents. That way, things aren't running all the way up the side of the lifted house and can instead be run underneath it.
My mom's house was built recently but is not on the river and has air vents in the ceiling.
E: basements also aren't a thing here (ground is too wet/below sea level), so duct work going under the house ain't a big deal

Yeah if there's no attic space and it's a raised foundation than it makes sense simply from a building perspective. I think it's common in cooler areas since heat would be efficiently transferred that way.
I think it's a relatively new thing regarding dehumidifiers in AC units. AC units already pull moisture out but do so at much less efficient levels. Some of the newer condensers can do both well though. Your mom's house might have one if it was built more recently.

I have floor vents. 14 yr old house. Furnace/AC on bottom floor of 3. Floor vents make for less piping than overhead.
By Phoenix RISING Go To PostFloor vents make for less piping than overhead.
Shouldn't be much less. The branching of duct would be the same in the ceiling or below the floor. You're only saving duct from the riser through the floors?
It was just a quick observation. I never ever see them out here. So weird.
No, the ducting delivers air to the main floor and the basement. Maybe you live in one of those weird no-basement places. If you talking about places with no basements then .. i have no idea.
There are definitely very very few basements in California. The old myth was that it's cause of earthquakes but that's not accurate, at all. They're actually better for earthquakes as they shore up the foundation. Basements in colder climates make sense because you can get your foundation below the frost line that way.

Tons of older homes in the NorCal have them.
Does anyone use a identity theft service? I know my data was breached in that Equifax disaster. I absolutely don't want to pay equinox any more to freeze or unfreeze my ID. I don't want to use their service for ID protection either.
report came out that their password was fucking: ADMIN

Were any of you affected? My sister had her ID stolen this year and it was a nightmare for her at tax time as someone had already filed under her SSN.
I've had my ID stolen before. It's horrible. Background checks take longer. You have to do extra shit during tax time depending on how badly you were affected by your ID being stolen.
You don't have ID protection? Are we all under the assumption that its' useless as everyone's info is out there most likely anyway ...

I'm considering getting Identity Guard. They get the best rating from multiple sources and will do a couple plan (2 person) with all kinds of coverage for $25 a month. I don't think my 2 year old needs to worry yet. lol

It seems to be getting a lower rating. Lots of places recommend NOT using any ID theft as you can do some of the things these services do for free using multiple banking apps and such. LIke CC monitoring. They say this because most ID theft isn't actual ID theft but just CC theft. Credit Card theft isn't really that big of a deal for the consumer. Bank Card theft is more serious and ID is the king. These fuckers have my SSN and my wife's SSN now though along with various credit card, loan and banking info. The chances that my actual ID is used to file a tax return or something is much higher now than it was before.
Watching my sister go through the nightmare with the IRS this last year and then this breach has me concerned enough I"m willing to shell out some 12.50 a month per person to prevent it.
It seems like really cheap insurance against the worst right now and like I said ... fuck giving Equifax more of my money and fuck using any of their services.

I'm fortunate that I'm in the US but only moved in August so the breach happened before I got a US account & SSN.
Fairly certain my mattress is fucking up my back and joints.

Maybe it's because people only buy them every 10 years?
