If Isaac is at 7 I'm all for Mavs grabbing him
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostCause they both legit want Frank…..I should add that if someone takes Frank at #7, fine. I like his measurables but it's not like I'd be pissed if Knicks got Monk instead.
Also this coming out doesn't surprise me. Knicks might have to trade for Rubio (maybe Lee) to move up. The Mavs really don't have assets outside of Noel. Perhaps they trade him to Wolves for 7 and come out with 7 and 9 to really squeeze the Knicks.
Now if all the point guards are somehow gone by #8...
By RATHasReturned Go To PostWell done Magic, well done.Magic showed his hand, now the Pacers know it's PG13 or bust and they will hold out until they can rob him blind.
The Lakers reportedly "engaged Sacramento in talks" to send their No. 2 pick to the Kings for the No. 5 and No. 10 picks, according to David Aldridge of NBA.com.ok
Per Aldridge, the Kings did say no to this deal, and the Lakers had the idea they would package one of those picks to get Paul George. If true, there are a couple things to consider here. First, this really shows how much the Lakers want to turn this team around in a hurry. Secondly, the Lakers may not be locked in on drafting Lonzo Ball at two, and again freeing up money for free agents is paramount for them. Expect another Lakers trade in the next 36 hours.

Finally WCF? :(
You think the Lakers are getting Griffin too?

They tried this once with Bosh/Melo and that didn't go well, looks like they're going for it again. Remembering their first attempt fuck up has me ultra shook about what Magic is trying to do.
fuk it lets go
By Kabro Go To PostFranky posting older than dirty news. smhThat was posted mainly for the Ball news and the fact Roto believes Magic/Pelinka will make another trade before the draft. I have heard so much noise about Ball it's funny, but if he doesn't go at #2 it'll throw off the whole draft.

A nice summary by a poster on another forum about why it would behoove the Lakers to trade for PG:
This argument doesn't address the OP's point, which is about the Lakers pursuing another max-level FA in 2018 to make the team competitive.
If the Lakers wait to acquire George in FA, they can renounce Randle and pretty much have 1 max space slot. They sign PG in 2018 and now the team is totally capped out with Paul George and a bunch of young players who may or may not be good and nothing else (Brook Lopez's bird rights I guess). If they acquire George now, they also inherit his bird rights, meaning they can clear some extra space by stretching or trading Clarkson and Deng, use space to sign some fantasy UFA like LeBron, and go over the cap to retain George next summer.
The Lakers have an impetus to trade for George right now because it gives them significant cap flexibility that they will not gain by signing him as a free agent. The Pacers know this, meaning that LA needs to put together a competitive offer beyond what they're offering so far (junk picks and bad young players). Other teams know this as well, so a risk-acceptant organization, like the Rockets, could take a short-term rental on George now and extort the Lakers at the deadline. The Lakers don't have the leverage we all assumed they did initially because waiting to acquire George means they have no chance at LeBron or any other max-level FA in 2018. I didn't understand this either until the Woj reporting came out yesterday about Magic wanting two max-level FAs.

Bird rights are the biggest thing. A trade will eventually happen because it's the best thing for everyone involved.
fuck it just give them Ingram if thats what it takes. if he does turn out to be great it's still years down the road and Magic and them clearly only care about the short term anyway
i bet this is how it ends up.

He and that #2 pick are untouchable.
I Gotta agree with them.
Ramona has said that Nance and Zubac may be in the table now.
but if our end goal is trading for PG and 2 Max slots next summer,
we have to trade clarkson, deng and randle to do it.
Might as well give them Clarkson AND Randle now.
but it will be harder to trade Deng before deadline.
maybe that 2019 pick. I wager they are holding on to assets to reserve them for a Deng trade.
Really good article on Hoopshype about the lives of scouts:
This quote stuck out to me after the debate about Booker's ceiling yesterday:
It's also crazy how much more the Spurs invest in scouting than everyone else. I wonder how much that impacts their bottom line:
I wonder if he was the guy driving the Porzingis pick, and if he's the reason they're interested in Ntilikina?

“Sometimes I feel like a private investigator (laughs). Most of my job is gathering intel. I call anyone I can. I call equipment managers, doctors, physiotherapists, teammates, friends, coaches. I want to find out as much as I can about a player. Is he completely healthy? Does he smoke? Does he drink? Does he have a good relationship with his wife? These are things that we want to know before investing in a player.”
“I was in Los Angeles talking to this guy, who was a handler of a handler, and he started offering me money to hype up his late-first/early-second draft prospect. I don’t know if he understood my job or role, but it was clear that this guy was used to offering people money as a way to influence them or get what he wants. It was a bizarre conversation. I’m not going to accept money and be manipulated. Maybe some other scouts do? I don’t know.
This quote stuck out to me after the debate about Booker's ceiling yesterday:
Which players were you wrong about?
Scout No. 1: “Klay Thompson. I basically said, ‘Hey, he’ll be a good shooter, but that’s it.’ And I scouted him multiple times in person when he was at Washington State, so it’s not like I didn’t see him. I just never predicted he’d be the two-way player he’s become. He could obviously shoot the ball; he had a great stroke. I just thought he’d be a good-shooting role player. I projected him to be similar to JJ Redick. Obviously, I was wrong about him.”
It's also crazy how much more the Spurs invest in scouting than everyone else. I wonder how much that impacts their bottom line:
“The Spurs are the best out there. Every team looks at what they’ve done and is trying to duplicate their success at an organizational level. They have people everywhere. They are the CIA of basketball. Since I started this job, it feels like two out of every three people I meet are either with the Spurs or have some connection to the Spurs.
The New York Knicks have one of the best scouts, Kevin Wilson, but I don’t know how much they listen to him.
I wonder if he was the guy driving the Porzingis pick, and if he's the reason they're interested in Ntilikina?

Wilson was the first to spot him though, he did some scouting on Ntilikina but spends most his time watching the Spanish league. He has basically been watching Doncic for the last year or so and been spotted on YouTube videos on Doncic highlight videos. As an organization though the Knicks have invested heavily in European scouting since Phil got there.
Also congrats to Chauncey. I hope he cements his legacy as Mr Big Trade and pulls that trade for Melo 🙌🏾

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostI like his tape. Moves his feet great. Can definitely switch on guards and close out at the 4. His biggest issue is he needs to put on weight. Once that comes I don't see how he fails. His shooting stroke is fast and mechanically good. His college numbers give great reason to believe shooting will improve/translate. 78% FT shooter in 4 attempts a game. 35% from the college 3 on 3 attempts a game.
The thing I like about him as well as the stuff you mentioned is that he has some handle since he grew like half a foot late in high school. I know he's not Davis but it's a similar thing, he looks comfortable with the ball which isn't always the case with a lot of these tall skinny forwards. I'd probably take him over Tatum tbh because I think he fits the current style of play in the league better.
By Kuma Go To PostWho going to shoot ball for the Lakers? Any free agents available that can shoot?there was that one game Clarkson made 7 3pters.
