AD's tools are amazing and he was a legendary college defender, he should be able to anchor a top defense so I thought the problem was Monty (who did have some bad schemes and ideas like constantly blitzing the pick and roll). AD should be at least as good defensively as Noel since AD has way more experience than Nerlens, but it didn't happen this year.
Jahlil Okafor is expected to come off the bench again on Friday vs. the Lakers.Noel at the 5, Ish running point and Jerami Grant playing 4 got the Sixers running on O and much improved D. Ish is still a looter in a riot, but the Sixers are 2-1 with him at point.
Considering how well Nerlens Noel has played at the five, this makes a lot of sense for Philly. The 76ers are playing at a ridiculous pace right now with Ish Smith running the point, and Noel's play has skyrocketed because of that. Okafor's minutes could take a hit if he continues to come off the bench, and it will be interesting to see what plans the 76ers have for him moving forward.
“Last BUT NOT LEAST… Being stuck in the ‘triangle offense’ w my ex & snitch, I mean former teammate & friend.. Who went behind my back, messed w my ex, got caught, got dealt w for being a snake, then ran & told the Police & NBA.. Instead of taken that a– whoopin like a man & kept it moving,” Barnes wrote in his post.Stay classy Barnes.
“Guess cause I didn’t SNITCH, I get a 2 game suspension by the league They call that LIFE,” he wrote.

He also gambles for highlight plays more than he probably should, at least when I watch him. But maybe that goes back to the simplified defensive scheme, I dunno. Anyway, good team defense requires more than one guy.
Vander Blue has been p good in the dleague recently and Upshaw seems to have found out how to play basketball again.

He can never make up his mind as to how he wants to defend a pick and roll. Lots of hesitation, over-aggression, and just plain wrong decisions. It's really not that much to do with whatever scheme coaches put him in; it's on him not doing what he is supposed to when he is supposed to.
His iso-defense is pretty great, aside from still falling for pump-fakes. It is when he has to take into account his teammates and his opponent's teammates that he gets in trouble. And that is a much larger part of the NBA than it was in college where he could just sit at the goal.
e: And then you have a bunch of just plumb terrible perimeter defenders on the team like Gordon and Evans. Evans is similar to Davis in that he is pretty good at iso, but is immeasurably worse at help defense. Anderson isn't Kanter-bad, but he's not that far away.

By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostWe are jumping through a hell of a lot of hoops to NOT blame Gentry.
I think the discussion is why has Davis yet to anchor a good defense and not why the defense is just bad this year. Coaching is an assumed part of the problem, but there are still issues with Davis on a bball IQ level. Not that Davis has low bball iq. Just that he hasn't grasped a lot of team defensive concepts yet and his defensive awareness needs to improve.
