Cool thanks guys, I will try that for sure. As I get older anything to make it easier lol.
Although I'm sure I'll get descoped and my dumb ass will just continue to hold LT. This is almost a good enough reason to get the elite for hair triggers. Almost.

My Elite Controller layout plans are pretty similar to the other Bumper Jumper users here, but I'd also like to get ADS off of the right stick. It's just a little too slow, not totally ideal. So my plan is:
RT - Shoot
RB - Grenade
LT - ADS
LB - Jump
X - Reload
A - Sprint
P1 - Melee
P2 - Swap Grenades
P3 - Thruster
P4 - Swap Weapons
I was a little concerned that putting ADS on LT wouldn't be responsive enough for Halo, but then I remembered the Elite Controller has the hairpin trigger option or whatever, so it should feel fine. I'm really stoked to try it out. I've never had a fancy controller before.

Yeah man it's actually super exciting lol it's fun to see what others are going to bind their inputs to.
I think I'm going to try to use zoom on a paddle.
Sliding probably won't be a huge deal in halo 5, but I could see putting crouch on a paddle
But that layout looks great, kittens. Must not give in, already got a chief controller.....bestrong.gif

We need Hologram as a Spartan Ability, goddammit. You could even map it so that it has three modes, depending on how long you hold the button.
Press - hologram spawns and stays in position
Hold (approx. action button-length hold) - hologram walks off into the distance (like in past titles)
Hold longest (approx. same time as the spartan laser) - hologram sprints away at maximum speed, does not stop sprinting until it dissipates
Also, they should make it so that UNSC tech advancements make the sounds your Spartan makes come out of the hologram as well to screw with people.

The variable 30fps enemy animations and shadow cascade with texture pop in is a huge eyesore for me. It's extremely distracting to my eyes and it's one of the reasons I couldn't stand Sunset Overdrive. I realize I'm probably the minority here, but unfortunately my eyes notice these issues without trying and really detracts from my experience.
Good job 343 on making a beautiful game run at an unbelievably solid 60fps. Fantastic work.

6:58 in that DF video. Now that's what I like to hear.
The 30FPS supplementary animations are something I can live with. Smash 4 3DS did the same thing, and I was pretty sure I saw it a couple of times in Blue Team b-roll footage.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postso are their gonna be clan matchesI want to know this, is it gonna matter or is it just a waypoint thing?
By Fahzgoolin Go To Postone of the reasons I couldn't stand Sunset OverdriveYour post had me concerned until I read this part, lol. I never noticed anything amiss. I'm one of those people who's blissfully ignorant to the vast majority of graphical issues. Having some animations at half the FPS does sound odd, though.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postso are their gonna be clan matches
There won't be like a clan matching playlist/system at launch if that's what your asking. Pretty much right now its just a place to communicate and gather. Since SLAENT already exists for us, it's pretty useless for this forum.
Frankie and Josh have said they are going to add stuff. Frankie's quote from the article is "We’ll continue to support, improve and expand Companies, and we hope you have fun with it."
So, you can trust that or not for seeing how fully fleshed out this becomes. It's pretty cool that the pro-teams get their own exclusive companies already. Hopefully we see it get more and more interesting. Like setting up date/times for customs. Receiving notifications/reminders for things you have signed up for. And be cool to follow pro-scrimmages if I want to jump in as a spectator.

lol yeah...it literally drives me CRAZY =(
God made me this way, maybe I should use it for good. Hire me SalientOne. I'll put all my life into making textures and shadows not noticeably pop in.
Seriously though...I wanna work on that stuff. I'M AN OBSESSIVE FREAK.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention sprint being on the A button in my layout. I hatteeeeeee having sprint on L3, I don't know why that ever became the norm.
Gonna leave sprint off A otherwise I'll be activating my super non-stop when I play Destiny.
Is the base controller remapping stuff going to be available for launch, or is that not until later this year? (December/NXOE)

Move via analog, walk fastly via click analog
Who was it talking about animations seeming weird a long while back? I have to say something. You were right. Listening to the Digital Foundry hands on analysis with the final build and they mention that at a distance enemies do animate at 30fps while the game still runs at 60fps. So it looks like you were right in noticing that wonky animation way back when.
By Wahrer Go To PostMove via analog, walk fastly via click analogRight, but I've always found clicking the sticks to be slow, cumbersome, and sometimes unresponsive compared to normal buttons. I've always thought of it as something that minor functions should go on, like turning on Chief's flashlight with the white button on the OG Xbox controller.

It definitely puts a damper on the buttery smoothness.

Oh no, I'm with you on this one, I always just assumed that was their reasoning for the consolidation.
I enjoyed that in 4 the sprint was in the bumber, it was instant and felt responsive, however i dont know where to put ads though.

It's REALLY jarring. And I don't even care about/notice graphical issues. But as long as you ignore their feet, and aim at the torso and above you should be able to not feel nasty about it.
:/
I think the variable resolution is a little bit distracting at worst, but the variable framerate can possibly affect gameplay negatively while shooting from a distance, which might be a bummer. Those are two really huge compromises to get 60FPS.

Having played the game, it doesn't affect gameplay in the slightest, you'll be too busy killing enemies or *spoiler* to notice the resolution or the enemies at a distance having 30FPS animations.

Some will and some won't. I never noticed it myself yet others here did right away. I think it will just come down to how much things like that bother you.

Yup I agree. Every video I have seen of Halo 5 is IMO an inconsistent mess. I want visual consistency across ALL aspects of graphical performance. If that means scaling back the overall fidelity in favor of consistency (like multiplayer modes do), then freaking do it. The irony is people often get so irrationally upset at others for being more naturally observant about a given issue and cry that "graphics don't matter, gameplay does." Graphics are paramount to an experience, just like visuals are for a movie. It can be argued that a game's graphics are more important than a movie's because you are interacting with it.
I wish Halo 5 was targeted around 40-50fps instead of 60fps. They could have probably gotten rid of a lot of the ugly texture/shadow pop in or animation frame rate variance.
Honest question, not me being salty: why are people acting like Halo 5 running at 60fps is some sort of great technical achievement when 60fps has been the standard for multiplayer shooters this generation?
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they went for 60fps. Shooters ought to be at 60fps, especially with it being 2015 and all. That said, resolution takes a huge cut at times, animations update at half frequency, effects are compromised, and the end result are visuals that look rather similar to Halo 4.
Like I said, 60fps was the right call and I don't think it matters if Halo is a visual powerhouse. I just don't get the praise as if this is some sort of groundbreaking technical achievement.

I think more people are just commending 343 for going that route and achieving a very constant 60fps. A lot of shooters claim to be 60, but very few are this consistent. It's the worst when a game looks smooth most of the time but buckles under the pressure of a lot going on at once, which are the times you need good performance the most.

Is this a thing??? Was it in beta?
At long last us poor 3 sensitivities can ninja.
I'm trying to put together a Halo 5 gametype for the MCC throwdown (thrusters only, unlimited sprint, etc) but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get BRs and DMRs to spawn on the map like they do in H4 Legendary Slayer. Would I really have to go into Forge to place those manually? If so, that's too much work
So here's a question I don't recall being addressed...
Spartan Companies were announced after the announcement that APIs were going to be available. Do we know if Spartan Company stats/messages/lists/forums will have public APIs as well? That'd be fantastic, and would mean someone could cook up a Spartan Company app to keep up to date.

40-50 FPS would be gross. There's a reason that games that require precision aiming always stick to a locked framerate, be it 30 or 60. You go for 30 because it's exactly half of the typical TV refresh rate and it will be solid no matter what, or you go for 60 because it's the same refresh rate as most televisions which will make it look as nice as possible. Fluctuating 40-50 would fuck up your aiming so bad, even on PC with a mouse and keyboard it's super jarring and makes it difficult to aim.
I can see why you would suggest that but I don't think it would work well at all. 60fps is basically the bare minimum for competitive shooters these days as well, so going any lower would really kill any chance Halo 5 has at becoming a popular eSport.
I feel for those who notice these things really starkly, but 60fps is so important to me that I'm willing to overlook everything else. I'm not going to notice a slightly janky texture when I'm ground pounding
The "I'm not just playing games for the graphics, but the lack of antisotropic filtration moguls on the shader traction debaculums is really going to hurt gameplay" posts always kill me
By Fahzgoolin Go To PostIt looks like a situation where you really need to constantly baby sit them in order to get much out of them. You will probably want to constantly position them and tag enemies frequently. That doesn't feel like Halo to me and I don't enjoy micromanagement in games. I'm starting to feel nervous for single player only kind of players like my father who will play this. There is sometimes nothing more infuriating than stupid friendly AI. For 343 to constantly talk about how awesome their friendly AI is and to see them consistently do jarringly stupid things is more than disappointing to me.

Now you will master how to use the squad.

60FPS first, then everything else second.
The game looks good to me. I would be way more bothered by a fluctuating/lower framerate than I will be by dynamic resolution/animation LoD. 343 made the right choice given the hardware they had at their disposal.

As someone who plays almost exclusively PC besides Halo I try not to dwell on how if Halo 5 were a PC game, it could be running at 144 fps, 1080p or higher, and be much more impressive visually.
