Custom outdoor 5G router / modem project is coming along nicely. The ZTE 5G router with internal antennas I bought turned out to be a piece of shit, software and signal reception-wise, so rather than having to deal with another closed platform I decided to build one myself.
I went with a Mikrotik router board, because RouterOS is open and awesome and I know it reasonably well. The RBM33G board I chose is getting a bit long in the dente, the onboard m.2 slots only support USB 2.0 speeds. I opted to connect the Quectel 5G modem card via a USB 3.0 adapter for that gigabit bandwidth. I doubt the 5G towers in my area will offer more than 350-400mbit anytime soon, but future proofing and all that.
Also bought two sets of external antennas, one very directional, the other slightly less so. I'm not even sure if my provider's 5G network is 4x4 MIMO capable, so only one pair of antennas might be functional, but I'm curious to see how each type affects signal strength and quality, so I'm fine with that.
The lengths I have to go to get >100mbit internet. Still no fiber in sight.
Gents,
Got my first PC. Pretty nice and I'm fairly pleased.
One thing though, I ran a stress test on Intel XTU and this was my result:
What I got:
850w psu, 11900k, msi mpg z590 gaming edge and an msi 3080ti
Should I remove the current limit? How can I do it?

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as benchmark results are ok.
I believe that message is just telling you that you have a bit more headroom for the auto-oc. But even if you remove that limit, you would probably only see like a 1-5% benchmark score increase while consuming lots more power.

Much appreciated king.

By Laboured Go To Postdat's cool
hope it works well in comparison to the same stuff on similar nvidia hardware.
Just to make sure, if this artefacting keeps happening on boot-up and making the PC shit itself, it's a problem with a component rather than a connection right?
I'm well overdue a new build either way, but would be nice to know.
It's only 11 years old though :(
and was mid range back then
PC I want is out of stock on overclockers, might just pay the £700 on Scan and get a different one sooner. If I only play Dota 2, an integrated graphics card is good enough right?

By NiceGuy Go To PostIt's only 11 years old though :(See if you can find something with a 6700xt. I think that is the bang-for-buck mid-range card right now. Otherwise, one of the AMD chips with an actual iGPUs (iirc, they usually end with "G") with ddr5 could maybe work. I think they are the highest performing iGPUs and are right below a 1060 in performance.

By HottestGrapes Go To PostYou only play DOTA 2? Sounds like a job for a steam deckOh, yeah. This is actually a legit answer. lmao
Just get a Steam Deck and a dock and you are good to go. lol
Can a deck do all the things your standard desktop does on top of the games? Have no need for the portability at all.

Welcome.

Now time to do what a self respecting gamer does when they acquire a new component.
Stress test it and not actually play games on it.

what a saving
Still waiting for the piece of shit I have my eye on to come back into stock, no idea how long that'll be. Using my laptop as a desktop has been surprisingly fine.

By NiceGuy Go To Postwhat a saving.horse selling his pc already?
Just to make sure, a Radeon 740M is good enough for Dota and possibly a bit of Counter Strike right?
On the fence about integrated GPUs. While it would be nice to have the option to upgrade, I can't see myself doing it without replacing more or less the entire PC years and years into the future. My attempt to move into proper PC gaming was ten years ago, and it never really came close to happening even though there was nothing stopping me.

Yeah it will play that stuff alright (CS2 on low settings).
Are you looking at the 8500G? Any chance you can swing the 8600G? It's iGPU has twice the CUs.

Last I checked, there’s cheaper + more performant options for a CPU and GPU combo over buying the latest AMD APUs. That might only apply to the top end 8 core APUs though.
8600G is like 1060+ tier, no? I know it looks like you're the perfect candidate for a iGPU, Hitch, but there's gotta be a way better GPU + CPU combo out there, even if ends up being a bit pricier and even if you're not planning to upgrade in the future.
Get a used graphics card. Even something like a 5700xt would probably annihilate the 8600G.

I can get the same PC with an RTX 3050 instead of an iGPU for £60 more, reckon that's worth the price? The better iGPUs start at £50 extra for a 760, and £140 for a 780.
Do motherboards come with multiple port types these days for storage? I've got two old hard drives and an SSD that I'd like to keep but they use three different cables between them and this pre-build only comes with 512GB, with Windows presumably taking up a hefty chunk.

Just seen that I can spend £60 less than the base price for the builds with a standalone GPU if I get a GTX1650, which I assume is a pretty big downgrade but from what I'm reading it'd let me play dota on Ultra settings at around 105fps, which is more than enough for me.
I don't want to just get the bare minimum though and then find that it's completely obsolete next time they update the graphics tech (if they ever do), or if I want to play something more demanding. Do GPUs decline over time the way my CPU seemed to, in which case it's best to go in higher than you necessarily need?
This is the PC I'm looking at, with the list of available GPUs

Might get the other case just for the extra USB slot on the top, and I prefer desktops to be more blockish
