Finished Pentiment two nights ago. Clocked in at just under 17 hours which seemed just about enough for this type of game. Really ended up enjoying that.
Narratively it had a bit of everything. A whodonit of murder, sexual assault and gay monk sex wrapped in a tiny sixteenth century history lesson. Once you understand the mechanics, and meet the characters, the game really takes off.

Started up Jedi: Fallen Order. The good Star Wars media bring stuff outside the films is never not wrong. Fun game so far scratching a certain itch.
By Crusher Go To PostIt’s fun and Survivor was a step up.yeah it's almost time again
Playing X Com 2 again, iron man commander. One of the goats.
The pull-up mini-game in FF7:Remake is overtuned for the last difficulty, imo. I probably won't spend the time to get that last reward from it.

Haha yes.
There's a similar one in rebirth thats likewise overtuned.
By Kibner Go To PostOnly $1,000 USD and 90 minutes of battery life! But Sony's best was the PSP so how fucking dare you?
By HottestGrapes Go To PostSwitch and Steam Deck really reignited the handheld gaming market I guess.Lmaaaaaaoóoo
If you don’t think the Steam Deck has had an impact on the handheld market, you’ve not paid attention to the handheld market. Like at all.
Regarding Stalker:SoC, it is very refreshing to go through a game where it's your gear that you upgrade somewhat organically to go back and batter enemies that you had to avoid earlier.
Can't remember the last time I played a game with upgrade mechanics that didn't involve levelling up, gear levels and stuff like that.
Bandits with pistols are absolutely pathetic now, but any military enemy will still destroy me if I get caught out.
Ran into some advanced military unit when I was running away from a science facility and they practically one-shot me from across the map when I tried following them, no idea what guns they had.
I should probably stop taking multiple timed missions, at once, I've already failed about six of them.

Isn't there barely 3 million decks out there?
It gets a lot of throating amongst enthusiasts, think it's influence is overstated. The switch? Now that was a disruptive device.

By Dazenheimer Go To PostIsn't there barely 3 million decks out there? It’s north of 3 million, but there’s no exact figures available. The sales aren’t noteworthy though, what is notable is that it spawned multiple competing devices from Asus, MSI, Lenovo, Zotac, Antec, etc.

Microsoft are now looking to make Windows more friendly to use on handheld PCs, as well as looking to make their own handheld. Sony seemingly now are too.
If the Steam Deck wasn’t relevant to the above decisions then surely all of these things would’ve been in motion following the Switch’s initial success when it released 7 years ago.
I keep thinking I am going to get a steam deck but will probably just wait for deck 2 assuming it comes out in a year or 2.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostSwitch and Steam Deck really reignited the handheld gaming market I guess. These companies learned that the people that grew up playing their consoles no longer have access to their TVs anymore and their kids that prevent them from using it don’t care about their consoles and would rather play some trash on their iPad while they watch some random YouTube.
By reilo Go To PostBut Sony's best was the PSP so how fucking dare you?it really was. Might we the last time any of these things really impressed
yeah i will get the steam deck 2.
but it will probably be too clunky and not have enough battery life for me to use it on travel.

The PSP was great, but the Vita was great too. Just didn’t have the library to back it up. Came out at the worst time. Publishers were expecting mobile gaming to really take off, projects were getting too big and expensive, the AA market had pretty much collapsed, etc.
Suffice to say, there were plenty of reasons for Vita games to just not be made. It still had some great games though, I used it a lot for Spelunky and Binding of Issac. Killzone was pretty good on it too.

On top of that, many competitors have swarmed that same market with Microsoft soon to join the fray.

I don't disagree with your overall point, I think there is a compelling argument in the deepest enthusiast circles the deck is very impactful. But the amount that needs to be sold for companies like Microsoft and Sony is in the 10s of millions. I just don't see the same appetite.

Finding any sort of joy on this map is a huge red flag imo. I will pray for you.

By Xpike Go To Postvita as hardware was kinda trashi didn't play mine enough for it to break but psp was trash. loading times of 5 minutes and just felt flimsy. vita had a good screen, superior carts and felt premium.
mine just died randomly while playing sotn and never recovered
My vita still runs like a dream and I took that bitch to hell lol
Its the power cord that I keep needing to replace

The PS Portal, VR, Pro controller, Pro consoles, etc. they’re all niche hardware. Sometimes a small emerging market grows into something bigger, so getting in early is preferable to gain an initial foothold.
The Switch proved a handheld device can still sell massively well. Whereas the PC handhelds have proven there’s interest in portable devices that can play modern games.

mine still works. hell yeah. loved both that and the original psp, but yeah, only so much you can do with so little games.
My Vita still works too. Been meaning to put a new battery in it and install custom firmware. Will probably never get round to it, but the idea will remain with me forever.
By HottestGrapes Go To PostIt is definitely a niche market. However there’s many niche markets that Microsoft and Sony want to appeal to. More so Sony.I'm always curious how well their headphone division does. They sell their top-of-the-line headphones for $399 -- would a handheld sell more than those at the same price? Granted, it's not an apples-to-oranges comparison as even at $399 a handheld is subsidized to make up on games later, but I do wonder where it stands as far as R&D versus sales.

Vita had some classics
And if I can put my consumer hat on - not supporting platforms really, really fucking sucks. Especially when it comes to download only stuff

If they’re aiming for it to actually play PS5 games, those games will have to see resolution reduction since it’s just not viable to offer a 10TF GPU in a handheld form factor (yet). Will they implement a compatibility layer to reduce resolution in games or pass it off to devs to make their games run on the handheld?
If developers thought the Series S was a pain in the arse, I can only imagine the PS 5ita will cause them a bigger headache in that regard. And the crossgen haters will be fewming going forwards too (fuck them though).
