Was looking at Oblivion last week and saw all the hoops I'd have to jump through and just ended up installing it on my PC.
I think I’m sorted.
Installing Oblivion, Protontricks, flatseal, mod organiser. All easy enough.
Oblivion script extender was also straightforward.
Installing mods via mod organiser is a piece of piss. Identical to doing so via Windows.
Installing the 4GB patch via bottles = literally hell. Just fucking annoying in terms of file system navigation honestly. I believe it’s easier to do this step on Windows and just copy the patched .exe to Linux. I like to challenge myself though i guess.
Should be good to go with an enhanced but still fairly vanilla playthrough. All the unofficial patches, performance/crash fixes, and most importantly some mods to the levelling systems. Both player levelling and rebalancing levelled enemies.

By data Go To PostWas looking at Oblivion last week and saw all the hoops I'd have to jump through and just ended up installing it on my PC.You can mod it on your PC and transfer the whole install over to your deck. It’s generally the recommended way to mod all Bethesda games since it’s just easier
Had everything I wanted installed and working, apart from one small issue. Booting through Steam just launched the regular Oblivion .exe instead of the OBSE.exe. Pretty much need OBSE for another mod to add controller support.
I tested that everything worked if I manually booted OBSE or booted it through Mod Organiser.
Followed some steps online to get OBSE launching correctly through Steam, and it rekt my install. Lmao. I hate it here.
Thankfully I’m using very few mods and Oblivion is only like 6GB to re-download and start fresh with.

Been playing GTA4 and there are a lot of extra hoops to jump through if you want to use mods and your own mp3s so I never bothered. It's a bit disappointing but its a compromise I am happy to make to play it on a handheld.
I also hope that with Linux becoming more mainstream for gaming and rapidly becoming compatible with 1000s more games, eventually I can fuck windows off on my desktop gaming PC as well

Finally 🙌🏻
Oblivion has been successfully modded. I don’t have an extensive list. Frankly, I want a fairly plain playthrough.
xOBSE is working correctly now.
NorthernUi for controller support.
Unofficial patches for the main game, expansions and DLC.
Some mod to make the levelling system not a min/max fuck up.
Now I’m free to roam Cyrodil as an extremely tanned Imperial with the largest sword I could find in the first ten minutes of leaving the sewers.

If you’re planning to play FF7 Remake:
Set Textures and shadows to low. 0 on the NPC slider.
Set to 900p, 120FPS cap in game. 30FPS cap in the quick access menu.
Runs really well, practically no traversal stutter. Image quality is much better than playing at 720p.

Some dude on Twitter managed to get Auto HDR working on Steam Deck, just tried it out with Tunic and it's pretty fucking sweet (tutorial in the thread)
I haven't used it on my Steam Deck, but Flatseal is a really useful app for systems like it. Makes it easier to manager permissions and such.

I had to use that to get modded Oblivion up and running. I have absolutely no idea what it did, I was just following a guide

I have absolutely no idea what it did, I was just following a guideIt’s just a gui wrapper around changing launch arguments for Flatpaks. Nearly everything in Linux land is a command line app so it is relatively trivial to write guis for them.
My partner ordered and installed some clear purple ones for her Steam Deck and I liked the look of them enough that I bought the scarlet ones for myself: https://extremerate.com/collections/steam-deck-buttons
I was under the impression that a button/trackpad swap required a full tear down. Guess that’s not the case?

Has anyone tried any old school point and clicks? I know they've got SCUMM on the deck but I'm curious how it controls
I'd love to see Toonstruck on that OLED

By HottestGrapes Go To PostI was under the impression that a button/trackpad swap required a full tear down. Guess that’s not the case?I did the right side today in about two hours. It is a near total tear down, yes. The only thing that isn't really touched is everything related and attached to the screen, aside from one heatsink thing.
Also, I will need to go back and re-do the right side tomorrow because I didn't remove all the adhesive on the sensor for the touchpad and it seems to have resulted in reduced feedback intensity. I will do the left side properly tomorrow and compare before tearing the right side down again, just to confirm.
Fucked up the installation of the left haptic pad somehow. It misclicks and its center position resets constantly. Will need to open it back up and see if I just don’t have it seated properly.
Cosmetic surgery successful:
Also, the haptics are fiddly things. You have to make sure everything is properly fitted, positioned, and tightened. More so than anything else. If you don't, it results in very erratic behavior.

By HottestGrapes Go To PostKibner beat me to modding a controller, smdhBtw, if you are opening up the back of the Deck, be sure to eject your SD card beforehand. I did that the first time but not the second time so now I have to go buy another SD card. :(
It is probably the biggest design flaw of the Deck, tbh.

You are not the first person to take an SD card to snap city, and you won’t be the last. Seen it a lot with people upgrading the SSD.
Thankfully I remembered to eject the SD card when I upgraded the SSD myself.
The MSI Claw has officially arrived, as the base model of MSI’s Core Ultra-powered handheld gaming machine is now available from MSI’s website for $699.lol foh
If anyone has gotten the Fallout 1in2 mod to work on the Deck/Linux. Let me know.
Got it to unpack the Fallout 1 data after some duress, but getting it to run afterwards is no bueno. Tried running through Proton via Steam. Tried running through Bottles, Wine, tried setting a launch command I found after searching google.
Either I’m not smart enough (highly plausible) or this shit doesn’t work on Linux.

By Kibner Go To Postrip. i got nothing else after a 5 minute searchYeah it’s rough looking for info on something that probably less than handful of people have even bothered to do.
Vanilla Fallout 1 will suffice.
Despite the update, Fallout 4 needs tweaking on the Steam Deck if you have an OLED model. Some fuckery with the refresh rate and frame pacing by default.
So, here’s the fix:
Create a file in /home/deck/
Name the file
Inside that file write:
Then open up Fallout 4's Steam Properties and set the Launch Option to be:
After that, you can use the OS level FPS cap/vsync, etc. and it’ll all work as intended with proper frame pacing.

Seems there’s issue currently if you have Decky Loader installed and update to the latest Steam OS.
Uninstall Decky Loader if you have it want to update.

Streaming the PS5 to the Steam Deck is much better than I anticipated. Wake/sleep functionality works perfectly. 1:1 Dualsense support (not sure about haptics), HDR.
I’d take it over Steam Link or Moonlight honestly.
1080p stream while docked to my CX55 upstairs holds up really well. No discernible macro blocking, responsive, HDR works. Shit’s really good.

I don't know why it's so damn hard for me to pull the trigger on this thing. I really want to get back to gaming and the Switch is just confirming that I'm a graphics ho.... I've tried to live with Geforce Now, but it feels as such a hassle and the issues that sometimes creep up eat up the little of the free time that I get for gaming.
Should just order a Deck OLED already and sell the Switch.

if you already got a decent steam library, it seems like a no brainer. especially with switch 2 coming sooner or later.
ive played so many backlogged games on this thing, that i meant to play for a long time but never got around to. some minor annoyances at times, but nothing that could make me stop using it.

It will be an early christmas present to myself
Oh for sure, the specs arent great. Could also just wait for the switch 2. But who wants to wait and more importantly... who in their right minds buys asus stuff.
By Batong Go To PostOr wait for version 2 or Rog ally as the steam deck's specs are showing some age tooI think the Steam Deck 2 will not be released for some time going by some comments from Valve.
