Dude is in the same age category as Allegri/Conte/Pep/Klopp with nowhere near as much on his resume.
Good luck to the guy.
I suppose he could be a late bloomer but there aren’t many like that… Sarri? Good manager but not top level. In my opinion the only managers I’d consider “top level” are Klopp, Pep, and Conte in that order. ETH is at the moment a step below the next tier of managers where I’d place Tuchel.
Klopp, Pep
Conte
Pioli, Tuchel, Ancelotti, Simeone

By Perfect Blue Go To PostMourinho was only a few years older than ETH when he started at United with a waaaaaay better CV. Fair enough if we think he’s past it and not top level anymore by the time he came to United but how tf is ETH a top level manager?From how he has built up Ajax in recent years. Built two successful sides there having lost a lot of players that got him to the EL final and then the CL semi final.

Allegri is still in that top elite tier.
Watch Allegri and Juve dominate next year.
But I do respect the amount of Italians you have in there.

Nah. Allegri’s had a bum year. He’s dropped a bit. Needs to prove he can do it again.
By Cleff Go To PostPogmentaryHe is such an idiot.
By n8 dogg Go To PostThis is based on current coaching prowess otherwise Ancelotti would be top and Mourinho would be higher tooIf it is current prowess then Ancelotti is probably too high. All Madrid's La Liga rivals imploded while they went on an extraordinary run in the CL. His past 5 seasons suggest someone who is very much no longer at the peak of his powers.

Juve took a leap up when Allegri took over.
pep doesn't seem to have it either.
a genius no doubt, but his teams continue to bottle it in the CL stage.
meanwhile mou clearly has it, but he's so far behind and loves negative football so much that he refuses to build what modern football demands.
incredible how he managed to win final after final with all these self-imposed handicaps. I suppose it's the one good thing about siege mentality.

not sure alegri could have pulled that off in the same way, but certainly he can improve on what was built.

Well, agreed enough that he isn’t at the peak of his powers. Still the current holder of La Liga and the Champions League. The reason he isn’t higher is because of those past 5 seasons.
By n8 dogg Go To PostNah. Allegri’s had a bum year. He’s dropped a bit. Needs to prove he can do it again.
I don’t remember Pep or Klopp doing much in their first year at a new club in the PL.
Allegri will be fine next year.

A new club is a bit rich. It was basically the same club he left the year before. Wasn’t like Pirlo revolutionised everything the way Klopp or Pep need to with their squads.

But Conte’s spark only gets him so far.
He will make a team better, but not truly great.

Club was much worse than when he left.
Still the biggest mistake Juve made was getting rid of him.
Ronaldo struck again.
By Burt The Samurai Go To Postthe boy ancelotti is perfect for a club like madridZidane 0.1
he would struggle in pretty much any other club.
I still can't believe Zidane won 3 CL s in a row. Genuinely does my mind in whenever I try to remember how the fuck it happened
By Cleff Go To PostFrom how he has built up Ajax in recent years. Built two successful sides there having lost a lot of players that got him to the EL final and then the CL semi final.He’s done a great job in the situation but that’s absolutely not worthy of being described as “top level”, come on now. The managers in that category have won titles in multiple countries, won big European trophies, and done it over the course of a long period of time. Perhaps ETH will get on that level eventually but I think you’re overrating him quite a bit.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostBut Conte’s spark only gets him so far.that's not much of a criticism imo, most teams never reach great status. what he did was enough to dominate italy for a decade. it can be fairly and correctly argued that that domination wouldn't happen without allegri coming in, but conte set it motion
He will make a team better, but not truly great.
they're both cl bottlers, not much to separate them there
Ten Hag is easily a few rungs below the managers at all the clubs ahead of him save for Arteta, who at least has a few years of experience in the PL. He is absolutely untested at the top level, and one great CL run doesn’t change that, much like the needle won’t have shifted drastically for Emery this year, or Pochettino in 2019. Part of why people rate Klopp so highly is he has made 3 in 5 years, won one, sustained league challenges and won cups in that time. I won’t put too much stock in a superb year if it can’t be sustained or backed up - it’s just a superb year.
By inky Go To PostZidane 0.1he's good at managing egos, clearly. plus he played when most of his players were alive to see it, he commanded respect in that way,

Still took control of that side, got them to the CL SF, lost his best players and rebuilt the side again after.
scholes always feels like he missed out on being respected by football fans
maybe it was the circumstances
he gets all the praise in the world by those who know and his peers, but most people never bring him up. one of the few english footballers I can truly say was great and had an incredible football brain.
but then he goes and sucks his grown ass daughter's toes for instagram

Zidane
- In his first Clasico in charge he ended Barcelona's 39 match unbeaten run, he was signed in winter;
- Ended the league with just 1 point behind Barcelona, who btw were at one point 15+ points up - this is Zidane taking over the season in January;
- Won CL in his first season in charge;
- In Season 2 he won the league, this was his first full season in charge, ended the season with 93 points;
- In Season 2 he won the Super Cup against Sevilla;
- Went on a 35 straight run without a loss in Season (new club record), then extended this run to 40 games (breaking Barca's record);
- Won the CWC in Season 2;
- He then won the CL again in Season 2, to become the first team to ever win it back to back (new CL format);
- In Season 3 he won the Super Cup against United;
- A week later after the Super Cup, he won the tie against Barcelona to win the Super Copa;
- Won the Best Men's Coach in 2017;
- Then won another CL, third in a row - another record;
- In 2019 March, Zidane came back, wining the Super Copa agianst Atletico;
- Then later in the same season won another league title in 2020; and
- That last year in charge a record number of players scored goals, and it was our best defensive record in decades.
Blows my mind people think Zidane is just a "ego manager" or "juju juice" lucky, either you guys dont follow La Liga (and fair fucks to you if you dont) or ignore what he's accomplished. It's not just the games he's won either, he tried to change our game and adapt to Bale, Vini, Harzard, squeeze as much from KCM, Ronaldo, Jovic, etc etc. He tried 4-4-2 when it was needed, went back to 4-3-3, even did the diamond with Isco. We played offensively when we would (Ronaldo era) and reverted to a defensive game when needed (post-Ronaldo era when Bale/Hazard were always injured).
