By Perfect Blue Go To PostI'd like to know what Biden and the Federal Reserve could have done differently.React proactively a hell of a lot sooner instead of doing the "things are fine - oh shit" dance. which has become the theme of basically everything negative for this admin lol
even if they were on the ball, the fact that they fumble manageable situations with their own curated press gatherings may as well be a running gag now.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostI'd like to know what Biden and the Federal Reserve could have done differently.Dude come on, they kept screaming how transitory inflation was for months when it was so clear inflation was everywhere, then as if they didn't flood everywhere with enough access to cheap cash they wanted to spend trillions more adding onto the exploding inflation.
I'm convinced if the Feds and Biden reacted just 6 months earlier, we would not be here, or it would not be as bad.
...And now? They're overreacting again, without any recourse and crashing markets left and right so as to deliberately case a recession - hundreds and thousands of people might be losing their jobs, if not more, depending how bad they overreact. They fucked up, and now their only tool is to remove capital from the markets and raise rates. Biden is so fucking lucky there's more jobs openings (still), the labour market hasn't recovered from COVID-19.
Biden had been fucking up left and right, and it's crazy that Jerome Powell still has a job, how's he not been replaced yet? And Yellen? Jesus Christ, she's awful.

I don't buy him just dying to injuries sustained in a training exercise gone wrong. Nobody should given cops btw. Dude was probably about to blow a whistle.
Throwing more 💰💸 is gonna be further inflationary. It defeats the point it aims to solve. I.e., free money to fix the problems caused by giving away free money.
They're even calling it Inflation Relief.

I want specifics as to what exactly could have been done on a policy level to prevent the runaway inflation we're currently seeing. Even if we agree they should have been more proactive and sounded alarms earlier... but then we'd just have been in an arguably even worse recession with the Federal Reserve and other central banks being forced to raise interest rates at a quicker pace, which could have resulted in an economic disaster. So, what is the actual way to go about it? I was genuinely asking.

The play from the administration was and is to try and keep consumer spending high as well as keeping the markets ticking and hold off a recession as long as possible while act of god issues like the supply chain and COVID-19 level off... which in my opinion is pretty decent policy at the end of the day. I think people drastically overestimate how much power the President has when it comes to the economy and the Fed's power is only the ability to influence economic behaviours and that's not something that happens overnight, nor is it a precision tool finely tuned to the current economic situation, but rather a bludgeon where you raise interest rates and see how the chips land. Like you mentioned Powell... okay, what's a policy you'd enact as Fed chairman to remedy this over what he's doing? Powell is following the typical playbook of what every Fed chairman does during times of economic slowdown and recovery, none of the Fed's action now tell me someone else in that position wouldn't do the exact same thing.
My point is that the situation is out of the hands of the administration and every other nation on earth is going through the same economic period of the COVID-19 recovery. Supply chain issues, food shortages, COVID-19 fucking shit up for the last 2.5 years is such a gigantic clusterfuck on all sides that anyone trying to sell you a perfect solution is taking you for a ride. If you want to go after the administration for something, communication and PR is something I agree they've been terrible at and should have been done a lot better.
By Lunatic Go To PostFight inflation with inflationI find your lack of patriotism concerning
Powell should have never kept the rates low during Trump, and then again later with Biden for as long as they all did until they got caught with their pants down. QE ran for too long under both administrations, it simply wasn't needed. Then the Trump tax cuts, adding more fuel to fire. The economy was already too good, it didn't need gasoline poured over it. QT started too late.
This problem isn't exclusive to Biden, but he did exasperate it. J dawg should have raised the rates a lot sooner, not publicly state that inflation is temporary over and over again when it was clear as day it wasn't. How did they think pouring so much money into the markets with all kinds of supply issues would end up?
Again, all that was needed was to react way earlier. They got caught sleeping on the wheel.
