Yamato / Musashi were technical marvels but bunk ships. Still hilarious that Yamato instantly got wrecked.

Just discovered this gem of a thread.
As always its very easy to recommend the Dan Carlin series of podcasts, but I am sure they have been brought up already.

This was cool to watch, but I wish it had footage of the information desk. That's what got me looking it up.

Carolyn Bryant Donham Dies at 88; Her Words Doomed Emmett Till
With Ms. Donham’s death, the truth of what happened that August day may never be clear. More than half a century after the murder, she admitted that she had perjured herself on the witness stand to make Till’s conduct sound more threatening than it actually was — serving, in the words of the historian to whom she made the admission, as “the mouthpiece of a monstrous lie.”Burn in hell
“She said with respect to the physical assault on her, or anything menacing or sexual, that that part isn’t true,” the historian, Timothy B. Tyson, told “CBS This Morning” in 2017.
Thread bumps are always worrying but at least the news is positive. The world is a better place without her.
TIL about the Guadalajara sewer explosions
Sounds like one of the most easily preventable disasters I've ever heard of unless the programme was doing a lot of omitting and exaggerating, which is admittedly likely as a National Geographic show.

hope people treat her grave in a way that makes a NYC subway bathroom look immaculate.
By NiceGuy Go To PostTIL about the Guadalajara sewer explosionsDoubt it was exaggerated. Gas supply leaking into the sewers, everyone knew it was happening and where it was coming from but the refusal to evacuate and shut the source off for a few days for repairs cost hundreds of lives. Nobody wanted to do anything so they just let it go on until several kms of streets just blew up.

I'm pretty sure it had happened before too. Like, almost under identical circumstances.

honestly, im kinda set to agree. it's wild how little is taught regarding the ottoman empire - I used to think that of the germans had really locked up northern Africa, that changes the pace of ww2 entirely
but varna? yeah that switches the entire trajectory of the region

By DY_nasty Go To Posthttps://youtube.com/shorts/5HfXR3lBUcA?feature=shareIt's crazy considering how long it stood, what empire they replaced and how recent it was.

I know Egypt is kind of a tired subject, but I think it's wild that their empire ran so long that they had ancient archaeologists trying to figure out what happened in the early times

Oklo Mine (sometimes Oklo Reactor or Oklo Mines), located in Oklo, Gabon on the west coast of Central Africa, is believed to be the only natural nuclear fission reactor. Oklo consists of 16 sites at which self-sustaining nuclear fission reactions are thought to have taken place approximately 1.7 billion years ago, and ran for hundreds of thousands of years. It is estimated to have averaged under 100 kW of thermal power during that time.
