12% is the new standard for pc space
just because steam can use their market dominance to force devs into paying 30% doesn't make it okay
servers/bandwidth aint as expensive as you think
we benefit from a healthy industry, no one should really be defending 30%

it's a lot, but technically, if devs get more out of it than physical sales (which they do) then it's fair.
By Wahabipapangus Go To Postplayed alyx for like 30 min… wrote cum on a window and can confirm, it's crazy awesome. after like 30 min to an hour i always need a break from vr though. just cant handle that shit for longer, even if I find the experience amazing. It is truly cummy. I’ll take that and Black Mesa. The rest of the Half Life series can get in the bin
No one on forums or message boards complained about 30% before Epic undercut the norm for the sake of getting their foot in the door with their store front/launcher.
By HonestVapes Go To PostNo one on forums or message boards complained about 30% before Epic undercut the norm for the sake of getting their foot in the door with their store front/launcher.People have been complaining about 30% for many years, largely in the mobile space, but complaining all the same. 30% seems fair when you consider Steam's userbase. If you don't like it, sell somewhere else, it's the PC, not a closed console.
By Yurtlicious Go To Post30% is standard across the board, even Humble Bundle takes 25% lol (10% to charity).
and that's still better than selling physical copies.
you'd think Epic Store would be more popular since they only take away 12
Well if they can’t make the games cheaper, it’s more money on devs pocket but gamers have barely any incentive to buy there. They should pass the savings towards the buyer, but Valve has a clause. It would be great if someone managed to sue them into submission, it’s monopolistic behavior.

Let me clarify, by people I’m talking about end users and customers. Not developers/publishers.
This was never a talking point in the gaming space prior to Epic’s move.
I’m not arguing for or against 30%, by the way. It has no bearing on the price I pay for games either way.

Physical stores take 30% as well
?
Returnal not doing so hot in physical sales at 100$ in the UK. I wonder why.
I’m only talking PC, where Steam was gargantuan before Epic store entered the scene. If you have a clause that says you can’t undercut elsewhere or you’re out of Steam, that is monopolistic or anti competitive behavior. If you understand where where I’m coming from. They probably can’t be considered a monopoly of course, but they still have enough leverage to arm wrestle publishers.

returnal was never gonna sell super well. Just another high quality prestige title for the PS Studios portfolio.

30% does seem like a lot.
But I don't really care.
Gabe probably needs those percentages for food and knives.

By post-sy Go To PostCan't devs/publishers get an infinite amount of game keys from steam to sell elsewhere at no cost?Essentially. You can request almost any number of keys and sell them at your discretion, either in bulk to another storefront or piecemeal in your own website, etc. This cuts Steam out of every single cent of profit made off those keys (every other store that generates keys charges for them), that's why they have a price parity provision, so you don't game the system by cutting them out from all profit and still taking on all the costs of hosting your game on their store. AFAIK the provision has never been enforced in terms of booting out games from steam for having lower prices elsewhere.
The "monopoly" talk is also ignorant. If Steam, being the market leader that it is, came out before other storefronts and cut its revenue share to 12%, that would probably constitute monopolistic behavior. Such a move would basically price out smaller marketplaces like gog or humble. In fact, data out there shows that Epic is cutting into those stores much more than it is Steam.
It's no surprise this lawsuit is done by the previous founders of Humble, who built their whole business model out of the free keys Steam provided, then made a bad deal when Humble was bought from under them.

Is this actually a thing? I rarely buy directly through Steam since I can buy a Steam code from elsewhere (Humble, GMG, etc.) for less than the listed price on Steam.

It's more of a last straw provision and 'if scenario' to prevent abuse that's never happened. Obviously the lawsuit is arguing that publishers are too scared to actually do it, but we all know they do through constant sales.

Then there’s CDKeys selling keys for even less too.

was about to get the sun fragment in the 6th biome, build was OP as fuk(200% hp, astronaut + 2nd life parasite, etc etc) in a challenge room and returnal crashed my ps5

I would put Returnal down unit Sony releases some stability patches and HM puts in a proper save system - like every other fucking video game.
returnal hasn't crashed at all for me. dlc suits or not.
the fuking external hdd on the other hand. just got to the point where i removed it from the system.

returnal -- sy / yurt : on the second biome -- do yall just head to whatever biome out the gate, or farm on the original biome first before going in?

i'd just go straight to the 2nd biome. You get proficiency pickup in the first room. If you're struggling, farm the 1st biome.

I don't want to die and reload at the same point. Unless you are insinuating that rogue likes are for neck beard basement dwellers who don't associate with other people and can have infinite time for a run. well then no i am not build for that.
I do get that their vision for the game did not include a title screen to which I think is neat but i am sure it can be done without one.

By post-sy Go To Postwhos getting resi8 on friday? On the fence. Gunplay feels weak for an RE game but I’m digging the setting. May depend on how much I’m still playing Returnal.

Yes I am.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice quality of life feature when it is there, but given the genre generally lends itself to games that can be beaten in a relatively short session I just don’t see it as an issue when it’s not an option.
That and replayability is such a huge aspect that running through a third of the game or whatever shouldn’t be looked at as a chore, but just a core part of the game.
If you ever need to leave your game for a bit, you're just not dedicated enough.
Anyway finally politicians in the US are putting a stop to gamers, in particular Csgo people
