There is not a war coming, but constantly escalating tensions and these fuckwads being empowered and involved more and more, more push for police reform, unemployment rising, election year, etc. might precipitate several more events that might go beyond your regular, random mass shooting. It's also the continued decline of America's strength as a moral authority of the world, without there actually being anyone else to take up the spot, or internal will for change.
not even that.... how many times yal gotta see it play out before you guys understand that these on again off again activists and role playing protesters simply do not have the same consistency that these racists who're willing to train for years and embed themselves in all levels of gov

Well, I get it. Fear is the most powerful motivator, not anger or compassion. White fearful people become republicans

I was gonna edit to say "white people who are afraid prevent change," but eh. General sentiment is there. Easiest way to prevent change is infiltrate the government and have no scruples about anything
imagine thinking racism is a partisan issue

I agree. Not all terrified white Americans are Republicans. There are also a few Republicans who are not terrified white Americans. Thank you, everybody.
why do you think they have to be terrified

By DY_nasty Go To PostI don't think we're close to agreeing. What keeps people focused on the job at hand? What helps them stick to a task? Which emotion is survival most predicated upon?
The reason people lose interest is because there's nothing constantly gnawing at them. People with privilege who are still afraid channel that fear into action. That's all I was saying.
By Not Go To PostYes, exceptions exist. Apologies to all republicansDo we have to go over cop unions paying off dems too or...
When you can pick and choose when you're involved along with the level of involvement - you're not exactly obligated to do anything close to what a 'war' demands.
By i can get you a toe Go To PostDo we have to go over cop unions paying off dems too or…I guess people don't pay attention to my posts here unless they're pissed off. Dems are the false option that exist as a barrier to protect the rich. Calling modern republicans a party of scared privileged white people in a single post wasn't nuanced enough. Fine.

Sorta unrelated, but after the Great Recession I pretty much decided we’re never gonna see an event that would cause such an uprising. It definitely ain’t gonna be a social issue that starts it either.
Things may be meh, but a perpetual state of meh ain’t enough to start a war. Not even close really.

Wars are often started when there's something for the powerful to gain. I don't think we're at the point of starting one over continuous property damage. But the more marginalized people use their growing prestige and power to strike, in the name of equal rights? I have no idea where that leads.

But the most draining thing about is how they share all this momentum/climate/change but many don't even have the backbone to stand in place and take a course correction.

We've had this talk before, about what it would take. Heh
I’ll always remember a response Not told me one time. I don’t remember the topic, nor the comment I made, but I do generally remember his response.
“I can’t wait to join the 30’s so I can become old and jaded too”
😂
I'm only jaded because I did stuff.
If I was a social media driven champion of people I don't actually deal with past any level which approaches a comfort zone, I'd have limitless energy

The percentage of people in this country that actually give a fuck about any policies or positions is so tiny that it's all just talk. All of it.
We all know people in our lives that are completely detached from issues, not just across the country, but across the street. We don't give a fuck. Period. We have other personal shit to worry about. And that's all of us. Not just any one group or race or tax bracket. This is boring shit that the majority would rather not have to think about outside of Facebook comments. That's the extent the average person is willing to go.
Nearly 50% of eligible voters don't vote. You can blame voter suppression, but that's not going to cover that large of a number. It's just not. People don't care. It's overwhelming and uninteresting. It's much easier to just be a single issue voter.
GoP: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, racist shit, guns...
Dems: TBD, but we're open for your votes, so Jesus, Jesus...etc
If a legit 3rd party were to pop up the two current parties would combine like Voltron...

I ain’t even done much but observe and I’m jaded as fuck. Can’t imagine how being an active participant woulda spit me out lol
In the end, an issue has to be so important a majority of the people start weighing the cost benefit analysis of how action or inaction affects their immediate family. Which is why it will never be a social issue. Nobody risking food and a roof with kids and a wife / husband. Plenty of black families making that calculus right now. May not even need a family. We’re all just trying to get by.

Distract or preoccupy the majority's attention so you're not beholden to their desires. Everything in our "democratic" society is a means of sidestepping the people's will. Promoting apathy has probably been the most effective method. But there's less apathy out there than there was in the 2000s. Blame corona, blame the information age, something. Maybe it's the minority, but they're pushing against the system in a different method than we've seen before. And yes, that's my idealistic, comfortable opinion.
The Kendall Gill sign-and-trade was rough for DY, just so you know. I didn't like it, either, even as an older adolescent.
This is nice, sensible and covers a lot.
I do wish they were more specific about who is responsible in Taylor's murder.
The cops that shot Taylor are not the ones that needs to be the focus of outrage. It's their commanding officers and the judge that wrote off on the warrant that need to be held accountable. The cops executing the warrant are only following orders. They likely had zero say in the operation. They think (and hope) they're showing up to a drug trafficking masterminds lair that's going to lead to a monster arrest. They're met with bullets from someone else defending himself and his girl. It's a tragedy, and the policies on the books are fucked, but the only ones at fault are those that took the bad intel and setup the op.
This Blake situation makes less sense. This is not another George Floyd.
It was confirmed today:
Blake admitted he had a knife in his possession, and law enforcement agents said they recovered a knife from the driver’s side floorboard of Blake’s vehicle. The cops were responding to:
a woman called police saying “her boyfriend was present and was not supposed to be on the premises,” according to investigators. So what are the cops supposed to do with a guy with a knife that they're there to arrest because...
In a police call, a dispatcher names Blake and says he “isn’t supposed to be there” and that he took the complainant’s keys and refused to leave. The dispatcher later explains she doesn’t have more details because the caller was “uncooperative.”
Blake has an arrest warrant filed against him on July 7, 2020 in Kenosha, Wisconsin for an incident involving domestic abuse that happened on May 3. The offenses listed are criminal trespass to dwelling, third-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct.I just don't understand this one. It's a fucked up situation. But seems to have been 100% avoidable if the local news and Reuters fact checkers are to be believed.

You don't have to be malicious to fuck up and other people say "hol' up let me be the biggest hypocrite and worst person possible about x y and z."

The police were called on him?? I thought cops were called because he tried to break up a fight. I don't even know what to believe anymore. If this is indeed the proper narrative, the whole thing makes even less sense, as you said.
