By sohois Go To PostIs it just me that finds queuing outside of supermarkets to be really, really counterproductive? It's the perfect way to ensure people spend much more time outside, with much more proximity to other people, and a much greater propensity to hoard stuff since they know they'll have to queue every time they shop.
Here in Charlotte, there's queues outside liquor stores. In North Carolina, all hard liquor sales are through the state, managed within each county or city by boards, and the Charlotte/Mecklenburg board decided that customers shouldn't be able to enter stores until they're escorted in to pay, (They tell a store associate what they want, the associate goes to retrieve it and meets the customer at the checkout.)
So this ends up with dozens of people standing outside in a line, in a process that obviously has to take longer than just allowing a handful of customers in at a time (like they're doing in an adjacent county) and just otherwise monitoring how close they're gathering. (It's also resulting in people buying a shit-ton of liquor at once so they don't have to go through this process, which also just makes it longer.)
Meanwhile, there's no restrictions on how many people can be inside a grocery store, Walmart, etc.

At least old-ass white people still get to golf, though.

to be fair, they’re not major lines. we’re talking about 10 people max here.
only 1-2 people are allowed inside.
and everyone stands behind a line keeping others at a distance.

No Walmarts in NY, might go to Jersey for the curbside pickup. I'm not going into no stores here, we got just about 10,000 cases here in a county of 980,000.
One mitigator: If you lose your job, that already qualifies you to enroll
Another:
Numerous Democratic-leaning states that run their own insurance markets have already reopened enrollment in recent weeks as the coronavirus threat grew. The Trump administration oversees enrollment for about two-thirds of states.

Latest IHME models predict "just" 84,000 U.S. deaths
If we actually do get this down to a bad flu season like numbers it would be incredible

They basically have deaths stopping in July. Obviously just projections and probably based on noisy data but I'll still take it.

The two states are Wisconsin and Ohio, by the way. Additionally, the store never closed in North Carolina or Colorado, claiming their bullshit craft supplies are essential.

Yankees spent a ridiculous amount of time on the IL last year, too. Don't think those ponchos are going to work.

In more serious, personal news, I also just found out that my father's second cousin died (I never met him), believed to be from COVID, and my father's sister (so also my aunt, who was also close to the second cousin) is in the hospital on a respirator, awaiting tests that could take up to 72 hours to confirm whether it's COVID or not.
So yeah, fuck COVID.

It is what it is. It's like Nas and AZ said, "life's a bitch and then you die, that's why we puff lye"
Except I have no lye, so life's just a goddamn bitch.
