Wow, Johnson has saved Christmas...
And he's then going to nuke New Years. All in service of the Boomer vote.

There were questions about different tests earlier in the thread so i thought this might be useful.
I guess in-home tests will be free in the US starting next month.
Have heard of entire teams at work coming down with it.
No real change in hospital numbers or deaths (so far in the Omicron wave)
Wonder if we should even bother reporting number of cases and focus more on the hospitalisations and deaths. I mean covid has been endemic for a minute.
Think if we have reached the point of > 100,000 without any significant restrictions, then they ain’t coming.
Surely post-Christmas would be too late to be effective.

if its that many cases surely health systems would already be collapsing if it was as dangerous as delta without the vaccine, no?
The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday authorized the first pill for Covid-19, offering a highly effective defense against severe illness that will arrive as the country endures another major surge of the pandemic..
The drug, developed by Pfizer and known as Paxlovid, is authorized for Covid patients age 12 and over who are vulnerable to becoming severely ill because they are older or have medical conditions such as obesity or diabetes. Tens of millions of Americans — including both vaccinated and unvaccinated people — will be eligible if they get infected with the virus. The treatment could be available within a few days.
By Laboured Go To PostYeah got boostered up this morning. Touch wood but no side effects yet.It took me approximately 18 hours to get side effects. The booster was much worse for me than the first two doses.
The new studies out of the UK/SA suggesting a 30%-70% reduction in hospitalisations (in comparison to Delta) is incredibly encouraging.
Obviously if there are many times more cases the reduction would be immaterial though.

Data out of South Africa seems positive though
Just got my Moderna booster an hour ago. Maybe it's because I had Pfizer originally and it's a different vaccine, but I felt absolutely nothing this time round. With Pfizer I felt a cold sensation spread through my arm when injected. Fingers crossed for no side effects.
By Batong-TT Go To PostAn hour? Please Cleff, side effects take longer than that.😑
19 hours in and Pfizer booster side effects have been weak. Feel pretty okay besides a sore arm.
Still calling in sick though

After what just happened to me - firmly in the anti-work camp.

In fairness, I don't think the American numbers are in any way reflective of the actual reality.
Was listening to NYT and they were interviewing people in New York waiting hours for tests in the December cold.
Meanwhile, we can walk into any pharmacy and pick up LFT packs for free on demand. In addition to readily available PCR testing.

By Andrew Go To PostIn fairness, I don't think the American numbers are in any way reflective of the actual reality. They aren't, which is another reason they have been trying to move away importance placed on testing numbers. Hard to steer away from that when its probably been the most highlighted metric for 18+ months now.

Happy to see more early reports of Omicron being less deadly, albeit more transmissible. I think we're all going to catch this variant and call it a day by mid-2022. I'd be shocked if we're talking about coronavirus in any meaningful way by 2024.
A big fuck you to china for hiding and lying about the virus so early on. Things could have been different, more transparency would have made this more manageable early on.

Mum testing positive on Christmas Eve and therefore throwing everything into disarray is perfect.
Fucking love this virus
Fucking love this virus
Hope she recovers quickly m8
My brother just had covid a few weeks ago, but is now with a sore throat and feeling a bit ill again. Doubt it's covid but not going anywhere near that, with being on immune suppressants and all. Feeling blessed to not have to deal with that shit tonight, can just play vidya and watch a film alone instead.

Still needs to isolate. Vax isn't a free pass to spread it to other people.

ahhhh I get you, you lovely man. Indeed.
One of my work colleagues from stateside came down from NY to work on a project. She said she lost 5 family members during this pandemic. I was at a loss for words. So sad that this has affected so much people. Being from my little bubble here on my island I couldn't even contemplate such a situation.
