By Lunatic Go To PostThe media always talk shit about Florida no? Don't see how this changes much.
It does, yet it is the fastest growing state in the US within the past 10 years, and also has some of the highest quality of life. And it is also the most visited place in the USA, with the most visited city in the world (Orlando).
My biggest beef living here are the gun nuts that populate it...I hate gun culture.

Yes and no. Densantis was pretty flippant during the ramp up and IMO got lucky. Whatâs safe and not (beaches) wasnât highly known when this popped off. Still he did seemingly get lucky. People expected higher rates that never materialized. DeSantis took his victory laps and popped off some more. Which would be well and fine if there werenât other reports of shady reporting of deaths out of Florida.
Itâs not like Iâm rooting for deaths here. I would much rather DeSantis be right than wrong.
Itâs not like Alpha is wrong and the media is quick to jump on DeSantis, but thatâs the context
Just posted on NY Times and Google News front page:

The United States is approaching 100,000 known deaths from the coronavirus, far more than any other nation in the world, a stark milestone that could come as soon as Wednesday. But experts say the true toll from the pandemic is already likely to be even higher.
There are a number of reasons for an undercount in the official tally: Many early cases were probably overlooked or mislabeled as the flu or pneumonia. In some rural areas, coroners say they donât have the tests they need to detect the disease. And cases that are confirmed by testing do not always make it onto death certificates.
âIn an ideal world, every Covid-19 death would have âCovid-19â written on the death certificate as the underlying cause,â said Andrew Noymer, an associate professor of public health at the University of California, Irvine. âBut that is not happening.â
As a result, even the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths fails to fully capture the devastation.
Odd timing.

DeSantis explained the approach FL took. He literally said they studied the South Korean model and applied it to FL. At that time there were studies with indications that heat and sun pose a threat to the virus (I looked this up, it's true, although it was yet to be 100%) but he left it up to the counties to close their beaches. After out of state spring breakers got a bit too rowdy and local officials didn't do much to curb them, he stepped in and closed them. He was a bit late on this, I agree, and fortunately not a lot of damage was done.
Anyway, beyond the whole beach fiasco, he explained they studied data from South Korea on how to quickly curb the spread and who to protect first. Turns out starting with protecting the elderly at nursing homes, including all of the caretakers and nurses was top priority and was a huge key to preventing COVID cases throughout the state. FL has over 300K people in nursing homes, and one entire city (The Villages) dedicated to a 55+ community. Protecting them helped lessen the trickle down of cases. NYC forced COVID patients into nursing homes, on the other hand.
And of course, they put in place tons of restrictions all throughout the state, closed down schools and colleges very quickly. Suspended mass transit. And obviously, closed Disney, Universal, and Sea World.
The frightening part of NYC's spread is that mass transit never stopped. Not even for one day. Even worse, the schools closed 6 days AFTER Florida's, and DeBlasio was being forced and petitioned by angry parents to shutter them. Even dumber, they forced COVID patients out of hospitals and into nursing homes and threatened private owned facilities with lawsuits. Those few transferred COVID patients killed hundreds, if not thousands, thereafter. Until the nursing facilities simply started rejecting them and would rather risk the suits.
Yet somehow channels like CNN, could not stop felating Gov. Cuomo, when the reality is he did a poor job. Despite appearing on TV every day and seemingly collected, he did not put in place the correct procedures to curb the spread of the virus. His biggest plan of action was telling people to stay home. And he then continued his bitter feud with NYC Mayor DeBlasio, and hammed it up every night and day on CNN with his incompetent brother Chris Cuomo (who may have also lied about having COVID19, and lied about being in quarantine as people spotted him walking around his neighborhood). But the media spun it like he was the leader we needed during the crisis. He was every bit as incompetent as Trump, just better spoken.
My entire family is in NYC and they were all in fear because common sense approaches were not being taken into consideration.

He didn't need to issue a statewide shutdown. All the major counties already did that way ahead of time. Most of Florida's population is in 6 counties, out of the 67 we have. A large chunk of those counties barely have any kind of population and don't have people living on top of each other (some even spread miles apart). It wasn't as big of a deal as people made it out.

In your end. Youâre correct, he didnât and Florida looks good. Doesnât mean at that time he wasnât riding or dying in trumps whims. This SK policy crap is BS too. I remember his eventual order actually overrode local cities banning church congregations. DeSantis tolled the dice and didnât hedge his bets and made it out.

I don't get this honestly. For all Japan postures about respecting the elderly, they sure do care more about their businesses and routine
Also Kita-Kyushu has had like 60 new cases but they were let out a week earlier.
We are going to break a 100 new cases by Tuesday I reckon.
