By reilo Go To PostI'm still in disbelief, man. News reports, people posting about it, NBA people sharing their anecdotes, etc and I still treat it like some sort of thing that didn't happen and then I force myself into accepting it, at least for that brief moment.Basketball like most here is their sport. And to have my favorite sports figure killed so tragetically, I can't help but feel jaded for anyone else that comes and takes his mantle among the laker greats. I really hope I'm wrong as his sudden death created a huge hole in my love for basketball.
This broke me today.
I was a Lakers fan for 2 years growing up, from age 6-8, and always hated them after I got into basketball more, just because they were so good.
I never get emotional about celebrities passing, but he lived near my area, and my friends ran into him when he practiced early at UCI a couple times, so it's completely surreal to think of an age without Kobe now.
Sucks.
The pilot then asked for air traffic controllers to provide "flight following" radar assistance but was told the craft was too low for that assistance, Homendy said.
About four minutes later, "the pilot advised they were climbing to avoid a cloud layer," she said. "When ATC asked what the pilot planned to do, there was no reply. Radar data indicates the helicopter climbed to 2,300 feet (701 metres) and then began a left descending turn. Last radar contact was around 9:45 a.m."
Jerry Kidrick, a retired Army colonel who flew helicopters in Iraq and now teaches at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, said the helicopter's rapid climb and fast descent suggest the pilot was disoriented.
When that happens, he said, pilots must instantly switch from visual cues to flying the aircraft using only the machine's instruments.
Randy Waldman, a helicopter flight instructor who teaches at the nearby Van Nuys airport, said a disoriented pilot might have only moments to avoid a fatal dive.
"If you're flying visually, if you get caught in a situation where you can't see out the windshield, the life expectancy of the pilot and the aircraft is maybe 10, 15 seconds, and it happens all the time, and it's really a shame," Waldman said.

It's mentioned :/
Waldman said the same thing happened to John F. Kennedy Jr. when his plane dropped out of the sky near Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, in 1999.
"A lot of times somebody who's doing it for a living is pressured to get their client to where they have to go," Waldman said. "They take chances that maybe they shouldn't take."

I tried to listen to Zach Lowe's podcast about Kobe and I was only able to make it a couple of minutes.
By rodeoclown Go To PostI tried to listen to Zach Lowe's podcast about Kobe and I was only able to make it a couple of minutes.every podcast i listened on the subject had people tell the exact same story. he texted people he respected out of the blue and wanted told them to call him to talk about basketball and leadership.
he texted Lowe to come and watch a finals game with him but told him he wasn't allowed to write about it.

I didn't realize Kobe had become so friendly with the media in his later years.

It was REALLY apparent in his last season.
these media folks fake as fuck. same people slandering him his whole career and denigrating his greatness and importance to the game out here like "aight he really was as great as yall said he was"
foh. they ought to be ashamed. its really making me sick seeing some of these folks switch up.

I honestly can only imagine this what PMS feels like. I keep getting teary eyed at everything remotely sad or emotional.
Ffs rewatching the us office and cried when michael came back in the last episode.
Tears at the end of endgame.
Pictures of kids playing, teary eyed.
Any think pieces I've seen about his "past" get blocked, even what's app groups I'm in a few people have had (what I'm sure were reasonable) discussions but I'm just not here for it right now.

Sorry if that came off a bit sexist but you got my analogy, chemical imbalance got me in an highly emotional state.
It's grief man.
Grief.
Can be outta nowhere too. Just be chillin and something (even subconsciously) just triggers a memory or connection and suddenly you're excusing yourself to cry in the bathroom.

Didn’t know about his sister
I already don’t sleep anyway
this was deep man
I hope people are there for Shaq. After his sisters death, now Kobe. Am I right in that he hasn’t talked to Kobe since his last game? He mentions how last time he spoke to him, he told him to drop 50 and he dropped 60.
That makes it even worse if that’s the case. I can’t imagine the guilt he has if that’s the last time they spoke. You always think you have time but it was taken away and to have to live with that, it’s really hard.

You could see how much he wishes he spoke with Kobe again. Now he doesn't want to make the same mistake with the TNT crew, his old teammates, and any of his friends and family.

I dunno how much shit people have gone through here but there's a lot of regret after someone even you're close to dies. Even more so if you were really fond of someone but had a falling out. Knowing there's shit you can't reconcile will eat you the fuck up. I even have this problem with relatives I was close with, shit you didn't ask, didn't do, the "I wish I spent more time with them." I hope Shaq goes and gets some real help, I didn't right after a grave loss and I really fucking regret that.
TNT with the tearjerkers all night. Mamba forever.
And omg just saw this on era. We really lost a hero ;_;.

"We from here; it's different when you talk about what guys thought of him from another state," George said. "We grew up here, we saw him every day on TV. He's the reason all of us played the game so it's different. It hits different for us, from Russ [Westbrook], DeMar [DeRozan], myself, Kawhi, just all the SoCal guys, it just hits different. He was our MJ [Michael Jordan]. He was our hero. He was our GOAT. It's just going to hit different for us."

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately.
There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon.
I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever.
Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality.
To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org.
To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org.
Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

For me it will be there forever, as long as you see something related to him. I still get sad when I see 2pac related things.
Isn't it incredible how Kobe transcended just basketball? You had guys like Jimmy Fallon and Kimmel balling in tears remembering him. All of the Kobe memes out there about him being Old Man Kobe still balling out, or Super Saiyan Kobe, etc...it sort of embodies who Kobe was. He was like some sort of comic book character. Always present, always there. Always on your TV or computer one way or another.
It's just absolutely fucking bizarre to lose somebody like that and so suddenly. I've had a few cries about it on Sunday and Monday watching his closest friends talk about him. I grew up an MJ stan, but I still realize what Kobe meant to the future generation of the NBA and its fans. Also, he had a crazy bright smile.
Maybe this is weird, but often times when I think of someone who is tragically taken, I think about their smile no longer being with the world. Robin Williams was a prime example of that. John Lennon and even Bon Scott. There was just an immense amount of depth in these people, and you can see it in their smile.

Anyone in SoCal been to any of the memorials?. Been meaning to go to the one at LA Live but I'm in Orange County and it's so far. Plus traffic and parking.
my work is only minutes from downtown. I thought about going but it's been emotionally draining.
It seems surreal to me still.
