She is one of the tamest appointments I've seen. In any case Biden can just appoint more if need be.

See my edit. This is an orchestrated assault on voting rights as the GOP continues to become a bigger minority
Edit: in 2018 Dems took a lot of house and governor seats. 2020 will be bigger gains in both. Tables could be turned back on the GOP since the courts won’t strike down legislative gerrymandering. Knowing this, Trump and the GOP stopped the census count early as an effort to suppress via district allocation. That stopping was just upheld in the courts

Chuck has shown us time and time again who he is.
The census count was not stopped because Trump stomped his foot really hard Fender...

A lot came into play. The bureau's own people decided things were jank and a pandemic doesn't exactly help things along either. Was that convenient to the GOP? Sure. But never letting a disaster go to waste is a pretty common mantra these days.

Trump census admins face turn half way through this thing in July “coincidentally” lines up real nice with his order to exclude illegal immigrants from the count 🥴
A month after he declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency, Trump explained from behind the podium of the White House press briefing room on April 13 that the 2020 census had to be given more time.

As a Canadian, I'm blown away about these stories of Americans waiting in line for hours on end to vote. People really out there bringing supplies while they wait in line to vote? God damn
By Perfect Blue Go To PostAs a Canadian, I'm blown away about these stories of Americans waiting in line for hours on end to vote. People really out there bringing supplies while they wait in line to vote? God damnThey genuinely think that’s how voting is done. They also think a single bandage costs thousands of dollars.
I know Americans don't like voter ID and it's used as a tactic for voting suppression, I get that. But I've never seen anything close to that in my decade+ voting in the third world. You show up, the people in charge (randomly selected from the neighborhood) match your id to the registry, they give your ballots, you vote, they mark your finger, you are done in 5 minutes.

Also too bad so sad if you’re mail ballot arrives late (thanks scotus). Please disregard the ease with which affluent neighborhoods vote

Everyone is also automatically registered to vote when they become of age.
i just don't get why Americans don't have like a normal id for every citizen, best they got is the SSN which you can't give out to anyone
By Xpike Go To Posti just don't get why Americans don't have like a normal id for every citizen, best they got is the SSN which you can't give out to anyoneBecause America hates people of color and poor people
Our voter ID doubles as the single ID you need to do anything (from applying for a CC, to register for social security or school enlistment, graduation, or any legal procedure basically) so once you turn 18 it's pretty much required. Our taxes are already paying for it, so might as well get it, unless you'd rather not and just do with your passport, which you have to pay for.
A voter ID in Canada is literally anything that has your name and address on it. You can even combine different sets of ID if one doesn't have all your info on it. If for whatever reason you don't have anything that fits this, you can just go with someone who can vouch for your identity.

I just go to the school that's like 2 minutes away on foot, go to the classroom they set up for me to vote (which is already marked, with the names on the door), vote, then go home, takes like 10 minutes if you go when everyone goes.
Of course, they also always have election day on a Sunday so in theory everyone has the day off.

By /bacon Go To PostA two party system is just fucking awful for democracy
It’s a FPTP system that sucks. Third parties are never viable and if they are, they separate a consolidated vote. See Canada libs being split.
I liked ranked choice voting for FPTP systems to balance this
Also want to say my government goes and pays individuals to go around and register voters. They ask for proof of the right to vote. Additionally a list every registered voter is published to the elections office website as a publicly available database.
A good portion of our population wants to go back to the days of counting other portions of our population as 3/5ths.

Thanks for ignoring the other “convenient” timings of the census fiasco. Sort of “convenient” for your argument though I suppose.
