By Laboured Go To PostThey need to be seen to be ultra aggressive this time round. As Tom Phillips has pointed out, they're already setting the narrative on features that PS5 will have too, but they're the first ones out there talking about it making Sony look a bit copycat. They're winning the perception game.
does the general public care about teraflops? does the hardcore crowd not already kind of know what these systems will be capable of?
i mean, how much buzz are they actually creating? genuinely curious here.
because it seemed to me like more people were talking about the ps5 logo than anything xbox-related.
yurt, i defeated genichiro. wish i could replay that fight because i'm so certain i can do a no-hit run through all stages.
this should be an option. or at least a post-game option.

If you can use the hardware power with the games and other features and are able to deliever a good picture it's gonna be a factor for sure, but hardly something the majority of people care about.
I wonder if MS is going to use the cringe train again by letting fans sit in an audience with a shit "I witnessed the most powerful console" shirt again or if they're actually gonna target the mass market.
Unless the PS5 is less powerful by a huge margin and got less interesting games we can talk about that factor again.
Anyway, we're getting consoles with great hardware this time around, not jaguar CPUs again. Can't wait to see some proper nextgen footage.

that deathblow was hype AF
yeah we've been asking for a post-game boss rush for ages (for all Soulsborne games) but alas. At least in the other games you could just drop a summon sign next to the boss you wanna replay/experience again.
By jjasper Go To PostI thought it was like 2009 ror so but apparently officially launched nov 2011 so that would explain itIt was massive on YT around that time, 360 version came out and sold millions too. It was probably a lot of kids first video game too
By Slavic Go To PostMS needs games, power and price to even have a chance against sony.
Just price tbh. That’s all they need to succeed in the US and UK. There’s no hope for them elsewhere regardless of how it’s priced or what games it has short of buying FIFA exclusivity.
Same for Sony. If they can nail the pricing, that’s all they need. PS4 had fuck all worth playing in its first year and still sold the most because it was cheaper.
Seems to be every console gen, the cheaper console is the more successful one and yet price is the most overlooked factor when it comes to the discussion of the following generation consoles.

By /sy Go To PostPS3?Wii sold more.
PS3 was outsold by the 360 too, it wasn’t until the PS3 prices dropped that it truly became competitive.

Wasn't a case for former gens. So it will be a big factor in the coming gen.

Plenty of of PS2 owners bought a 360 and PS3, despite lacking BC. Plenty of PS3 and 360 owners bought a PS4 and there was already a digital ecosystem then.
I think BC is a great feature FWIW, but I don’t see it being the difference between selling 100m consoles or 50m consoles.
Pricing tho? Proven track record for that being a huge factor in the success of a console.
was the price really that big of a factor in Xbox1 failing? The games were just fucking terrible really
Xbox 360 had loads of great games even though the console itself was a mess. And I remember my PS3 collecting dust for months

Games at release were shit across the board (apart from Resogun), and the best sellers were multi platform.
Of course it was a big factor.
what is 100 for gamers though? It's an expensive hobby and that's like less than two games lmao
it was a factor but I bet most people will just go for whatever console has the better library regardless
forget release, just the promise of some upcoming exclusives was good enough.

I think Microsoft had better games the first two years, but it didn't matter because it was significantly less powerful, more expensive, bundled with Kinect which nobody wanted by 2013/2014 and their messaging was bad. They had to walk back their always online, no used games stuff within a couple of weeks of announcing it, but it was too late.
Also, they were condescending as hell. "We have a product for people that aren't connected. It's the Xbox 360."
And then they had shit like Master Chief Collection happen in late 2014. It was over.

By HonestVapes Go To PostI doubt it.This time both concoles have entrenched users with hundreds of dollars worth of content and purchases invested in both eco-systems, the MAU of Xbox and Sony's absurd revenue from PSN is proof of that. Unlike the previous generation your live and psn purchases didnt come with you, now with PS5 and XSEX having BC as standard and unified eco systems, thats changed.

People just want to take their digital stuff.
Don't think it's gonna be the deal breaker either or a massive thing that will sell 50m consoles alone, but it will be a far bigger factor.

Fuck gamers, ask the parents buying consoles for their kids and the casual demographic that just want a box to play COD/FIFA/Madden every year what the difference is between 100 quid.
They’re the ones driving console sales. The hardcore crowd aren’t, they’ll lap up new tech regardless of the pricing but they’re a niche audience in the grand scheme of things.

By rerixo Go To Postmost gamers just wanna play fifa for cheapYeah, it's this. Most people that own a console buy only a handful of games per year for it. They want to play Madden and Grand Theft Auto and they're not investing in ecosystems.
By Yurt :3 Go To Postwhat is 100 for gamers though? It's an expensive hobby and that's like less than two games lmao100 is huge. Especially when you don't get anything out the box. So you gotta buy games and maybe another control. So that's another extra 150 on top. Yeah that extra 100 is massive.

most people buy a console because its what their friends have too

By /sy Go To Postit's nice that with both consoles, they've confirmed that you can use your current controller.Don't think Sony have confirmed that, have they?
Even though I'm pretty much exclusively gaming on PC now it's still fairly interesting times when the new consoles are revealed/released etc.
Ps5 day one
Xbox - I dunno maybe

By Yurt :3 Go To Postahaha I remember thateverybody remembers that but nobody wants to remember that their plan was to allow for things like game library sharing... but no people gotta have their used games.
And remember how Sony used that to slide in that online is pay to play

AND YOU CAN PLAY YOUR GAMES OFFLINE 😎
btw PS+ required to play online

Quick edit- I just realised AM4 came out in 2017. Neck slap for me!!
Only reason MS is talking about specs is because PS5 info is coming out soon enough, and they don't want people to think they are rocking an undersized dick.

Vanquish until Doom and Nioh 2 for me. If anything, it's gonna be the most exciting month since....March of last year.
and a few weeks after that I'm gonna try FF7 for the first time.
edit: RE3! We can cancel gaming afterwards if you insist
