By Flutter Go To PostGod yeah, g502 is pretty great. Had mine since it was released and no problems so far.
Logitech mice are always dependable
I've had it since it released, but shelved it as i got more mice. Went back to it a few weeks ago and loved it....except for that wire. It's very hard to go back especially when logitech wireless mice are so good.
the wireless g502 costs 150 though, ugh
After going back and forth with the Glorious Gaming mouse and my Vektor while at QuakeCon, I think I only really like full palm grips now. Limits my choices a lot. May have to start looking at some Logitech mice again.
If anyone has any raspberry pies (2 or 3 would be preferable) they don't need lying around, let me know.
I miss having fans connected to the GPU for controlling the RPM underload. Speedfan can eat a dick. what are some good alternatives?
Spent the day playing with SF, and despite it working well at first it caused some issues. Namely, it started to not control the fans/pump at all, shit itself and cause the PC not to boot into Windows on a restart.

Ever had any issues with it? I don't mind paying if it's decent software.
By HottestVapes Go To PostEver had any issues with it? I don't mind paying if it's decent software. Not even one. Set up fan curves ages ago, I have it displaying the GPU and CPU temp on the icon tray, and I've mostly left it alone since.
It just works™. Haven't had any game or other software complain about it running either, unlike with Speedfan.

Might have to check this out. Been using Afterburner because of the OSD that has very few issues. I tried Precision X1 when I first got my 2080Ti, but it seemed to still have some issues.
I knew people were going to build some pc's at this time, but damn man, it's impossible to even find decent ram in stock anywhere here atm.
By HottestVapes Go To PostSay no more,
You can drop the 2070 for a 5700XT and save some cash too. Up to you, but I'd rather take the 2070 or a 2060S personally.
mulling it over some. Would preferably like to slot in a 3000 series rather than the 2000. Might just wait? I dunno i'm fiending for a build.
By FootbalIFan Go To PostWhats the best time of year to build a PC or get partsNo real pattern. Prices of RAM can be heavily influenced by manufacturing capacity since many of the same facilities also make parts for cell phones.
Or is there no difference

RAM right now is in a good place. I happened to check earlier. As a personal example, I paid $500 for my 32GB RAM in Feb. Can get the same kit today for $340.
Vapes lad I can possibly push another 200 raheems into the build.
What's the skinny on curved monitors? Never used one and you picked one out for me.

For another 200 tho, you can bump up to a Ryzen 3600, 2070 Super and 32Gb of RAM.

That particular motherboard has BIOS flashback, so you can upgrade to the newest with Ryzen 3000 support without arsing about. you just need to download the new BIOS beforehand on to a USB stick and pop it in.
Kept the stock cooler for the CPU too. I'm not a fan of them like, but would you rather have a quiet CPU or a faster GPU/more RAM?
By Facism Go To PostVapes lad I can possibly push another 200 raheems into the build.Curved monitors don't mean a thing other than style. Maybe they matter once you get to large super-widescreen monitors that are like over 40 inches wide.

Not sure if it really helps you, but a list from RTings about their preferred gaming monitors: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming
They actually measure shit like input lag so they make a good, albeit limited (since they don't test that many), resource.

Went down the rabbit hole of manual overclocking last night. I've been at 4.8ghz on my 9900k since I got it, using the Asus AI OC feature. I'm not sure if I have a bad 9900k or what, but it always puts me at the 4.8ghz range, even though my cooler score is great. Looking around at videos nearly everybody elses puts them at 5.0 - 5.1ghz.
So I was able to get to 5.0ghz just messing with voltage and running a quick Cinebench run . Temps went to the upper 80s, lower 90s. Tried pushing to 5.1ghz, and it couldn't finish a Cinebench run. Almost instant crashing.
So now I have the itch again. I need to dial in my settings to make sure the 5ghz clock is truly stable. Been reading and watching a bunch of videos to become familiar with the necessary settings.
Watched this yesterday from der8auer
Using these settings still caused my 9900k to crash at 5.1, although I suspect the voltage may be the reason (need to up it)
Just came across this video from JJ at Asus which seems to really go into detail about OCing 9000 chips, at least from the time stamps. Gonna watch it
I stayed up until 3am going at this trying to dial it in. Enjoyed it. There's a ton of settings on my Maximus XI Extreme though.

I cheated, I bought a binned 9900K.
What voltages did you try for 5Ghz and 5.1Ghz?
I run Cinebench 5 times to initially validate stability then go on to OCCT/Prime 95 for a longer test once i’m at a voltage/clockspeed I’m happy with and it passes the 5 CB runs.

1.33ish or but I think I was changing too many other values. I watched the JJ video and have a better understanding now. So gonna try it again when I get home but leaving some of the other stuff I messed with at auto.
I don't need 5ghz at 4k for bottlenecking purposes either, but now that I've had a taste I gotta get it.
By Kibner Go To PostCurved monitors don't mean a thing other than style. Maybe they matter once you get to large super-widescreen monitors that are like over 40 inches wide.nah the curve of a 34" ultrawide is pretty nice, i wouldn't even consider buying a non-curved monitor at that size

Mine does 5Ghz @ 1.3v, extremely hard to cool beyond that point though. I’m happy with 4.7Ghz all core with MCE on, but I run 5Ghz for benchmarking purposes. Not worth it for day to day use, rather keep the power draw below 190w and have a quieter computer.

I'm about to upgrade my basic mouse that I got with my PC because I'm tired of it. Persuade me not to buy the wired Razer Basilisk. Don't care enough for wireless. I went to Best Buy initially to feel it out. It pretty comfy for me. It's about $20 cheaper on Amazon than everywhere else. Already have it in my cart.

Razer quality isn't good...
Always found the idea of running a fixed overclock 24/7 the kind of thing that shows disrespect for the world we live in.

By diehard Go To Postdisrespectful not toDepends on how you use your comp, I guess.
I have mine on 24/7 and I couldn't live with a no speedstep / no c-states fixed OC. I'd feel like leaving home for work with lights on.
All-cores turbo OC is my kind of OC.
Would y'all say that the Logitech G502 wired is a better alternative to the Razer Basilisk? If so, I will go back to Best Buy and see if I like it.
By Zabojnik Go To PostDepends on how you use your comp, I guess.I don't think most people disabled EIST or C1E when overclocking, with that said the power savings are fairly minimal.. I think on my 8700k it's a few watts. I think it could be a few more watts if i went back to offset voltages, though.

Razor have a bit of a reputation when it comes to the reliability of their products, but it's kind of hard to fuck up a mouse in this day and age.
By Jacir Go To PostWould y'all say that the Logitech G502 wired is a better alternative to the Razer Basilisk? If so, I will go back to Best Buy and see if I like it.The G502 is certainly a ... more proven mouse, I'd say. Other than that it's really down to your personal preference, the shape and weight and possibly software environment / ecosystem that suits you more.

Logitech is usually fine, although their scrolling wheel have a tendency to die. However razer shit has a tendency to start failing all around, and is generally way overpriced for what you get.
Thanks. Im currently watching some reviews. I should probably go to Microcenter for the diversity of options. I might have a better consensus on what I want.

If you can get a feel for them before buying, then that’d be ideal. Avoid Steelseries though. The build quality is awful, the rubber grips fall off them over time.

Been fucking around for days trying to sort out my SSDs. Had my Windows in install on a Crucial MX500 M.2, cloned it over to the 970 Evo over the weekend but the PC kept trying to boot up from the MX500 despite not being the set boot priority in the BIOS.
Not sure what exactly caused it, but some fuckery with command prompt later and deleting the recovery and sys partitions on the MX500, it's all good now.
Think I can get by on 3TB for a while, got room for one more 2.5inch drive for when 2TB SSDs drop in price.

By Jacir Go To PostWhy? Any problems I should know?Things tend to fall apart or just stop working as they used to after a few months or a year of hard use. The only exception for me was a mechanical keyboard I picked up nearly 10 years ago from them. A friend has it and I believe it is still working just fine.

I don't need my CPU to run at 5ghz 24/7 and consume 180W of power when I'm not doing anything with it. The benefits are hardly worth it.
Zabo, you do know that an overclocked CPU won’t draw max power 24/7 unless it’s under 100% load 24/7, right? Right?!
The idle power draw will be roughly the same as stock.

In my experience power draw was still significantly superior, though it's been a long fucking time since I've bothered with full manual overclocking.
Power saving features weren't nearly as prominent as they are today either. Or maybe I just didn't know enough to fuck with them. :P
