The Irishman is a masterpiece. I'm so glad that Netflix exists because there is now way in hell any studio would give Scorcese the money and freedom to the film like he wanted.
Just watched The Irishman. Was decent, but the ageing looked terrible. I had no idea what age they were meant to be during the different eras. Their movemenets were also hilarious at times.
Finally sat down to watch Paweł Pawlikowski‘s Cold War (2018). Bless Amazon for funding such niche films. One of the most gorgeous films I’ve seen in a long time.

No
40 something DeNiro walking like a grandpa was hilarious. I actually thought the deaging was well done.

Disney crossed 10B$ in worldwide box office this year and that's even before Star Wars.
The previous record for a year was of 7.6B$ in 2016, also by Disney.
This is fucking ridiculous, they are too fucking big.

I'm sure Comcast buying Fox would be so much better. You know, they're such a reputable company that everyone loves.
Maybe if these companies didn't chase infinite growth, chase trends, fall short, then decide to sell themselves to call it a win the mouse wouldn't have to snatch them all up.
But that's just capitalism. They can't help themselves and no one will ever be happy with modest success.

there's the potential for it to get even bigger if Cameron finds a way to strike lightning again with Avatar 2 lul

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postthere's the potential for it to get even bigger if Cameron finds a way to strike lightning again with Avatar 2 lulDoubt they will ever have a year like this one again. In 2019, Disney released the movie that wrapped up the story line that they have been building up for 20+ MCU movies, they had their first MCU female lead movie, they had a new Toy Story, the "live action" remake of the Lion King, the sequel to Frozen and the end of the new Star Wars trilogy, besides "smaller" movies like Dumbo, Aladdin and Maleficent 2.
It's an absolutely stacked year for them and the next few years will be a bit lighter in terms of big releases.

if? first one put china BO on the map and it only made like 200 million over there, they will gobble the second one up.

Haven't seen as much talk as the first one but Frozen 2 is on it's way to make more money than the original, it's already at 920M$ and it's going to reach 1B$ before next weekend.

I enjoyed the story and the film overall. However, when a film is jumping across ages, I think having a relative idea of how old people are is important. I had to Wikipedia the fact that Russ and Frank were 17 years apart. So many times their movements broke the suspension of disbelief for me. Made even worse by the fact that they mention Jimmy and Pro 'grew up' together, but their ages looked completely off. Made it look like Pro was a young kid giving Jimmy shit, not a few years younger than him.
I basically just loved every scene when they were sitting down haha.
Marriage Story absolutely fucked me.

Nowehere near.
I have NEVER seen a phenomenon in Korea like Frozen 1. Everyday kids were talking about it, singing the songs, and asking me to play them on YouTube. Not just girls, but boys as well.
That film is still so iconic that kids still pick Anna and Elsa as their English names even though they were born after the film came out.
Most of my kinder students have seen Frozen 2, but not many are talking about it. I don't even know if there are any songs in it.

I think the framing device of Frank reminiscing can paint it as a nostalgia trip; the haziness of memories means everything isn’t perfect, that Frank is imprinting his current state of mind on his reflections.
lol I don't think how they looked made any difference
you could tell by lots of other things how old they were supposed to be
they're all dinosaurs IRL I'm just glad they managed to pull this off somehow

Wasn't really in the mood so for the first hour the Irishman was questioning my resolve, but once the credits rolled I knew I had just witnessed a master at the top of his game.
It's a bit jarring when you have three timelines interweaving with each other. Nursing home, Road Trip + Jimmy Hoffa assassination, and the rise and fall of Frank Sheeran. Geriatric Sheeran is clear as day of course, but it takes twenty years from Frank the truck driver to Frank painting the house. He appears 60+ for its entirety. If you to end the film with Frank being a sad old fragile husk then it loses a bit of its impact if Frank has never looked strong or menacing once in the film. His movement was always slow, no impact. The de-aging stuff was done well but it was never going to be believable because it's only a (relatively) young face on an old frame.
I'm happy how confident they were with the CGI technology and that paid off because it never really distracted me. Ultimately I agree with Shanks that the best scenes were the scenes where De Niro, Pesci and Pacino were just sitting down and talking. Every single action scene or scene that was even remotely physical with De Niro fell flat (hell even watching him walk if I'm allowed to nitpick). They have the technology with body doubles and face replacements. It's not a big deal when the characters are supposed to be in their fifties and older, but why all the effort to make Frank look 35 when he'll still move like he's 75. It's distracting.
