Anyone Else Feel Like Taking Social Media Breaks?
Does anyone else ever feel this way?
I deleted Facebook at the end of last year. This past week, I deleted my Twitter and Instagram apps. I found that I was always on those apps way too much and I would be posting things without much intent or thought. I also feel like Instagram continually made me feel shitty about myself. I know it's a place where people just post things about their lives, but everyone else's lives always looked fantastic and that made me feel shitty about my own life.
Also not having those apps on my phone for a week has made me read a lot more and get back to doing things that I actually enjoy doing. I spend more time writing, reading, playing games, exercising, actually living life lol.
Anyone else feel something similar or do you love being on social media platforms? Maybe I'm just the odd one right now lol.

Yeah man. Take a break. It's healthy to step back - especially if you're feeling if it's wearing on you. The only reason I have my Facebook still is for messenger.
I'll never get a Twitter or IG either.
Only real drawback is people gasping in awe and wonder when I say I don't use social media... This one girl was convinced I was hiding an account from her.

Never used Facebook like that and I hate the look so I deleted it.
I use Twitter and Instagram to follow artists that I like. Never to keep up with friends so it's never that serious.

Haven’t had the FB app on my phone for five years. Havent posted on FB for two years.
I still log in once a day, but only for the on this day feature. I like to look back on what I was doing or thinging in the past.
Feels crazy to think how addicted i was to that shit from 06-12.

It's very healthy to take a break, which is why it's unlikely I'll do it.
FB can fuck itself in its entirety mind you.

refer to my tag. sorry to anyone who has enjoyed the Instagram thread lol.
i still look at stories and shit but i unfollowed probably 30% of the people i followed and i check it way less often.
Twitter is my shit tho. I don't tweet but I'm on it constantly. Best social media app.

Okay I'm glad I'm not alone.
I actually had Reddit deleted too but I find it useful for News (which is also why I used Twitter primarily) so I ended up redownloading it. I think some of the ideas here are good too, like removing a lot of followers or using them for specific things (i.e following artists).
For now I think I'll try one month without them and see how it goes. I already feel better though not being on them for so long during the day.

Well you should. It's a great way to keep up with friends you seldom meet but dont ever let it feel like it's something you have to have.
I don't know nobody my age who still uses FB anyway and twitter is not a thing here. Instagram seems chill, just look through some pictures once a week or so.
Aye, I keep FB Messenger installed, but not the parent app. I have an IG account but think I logged in like twice. I keep twitter because it is the best for NBA news. Thinking of muting my follows that are politics heavy, though. Too much (well deserved) negativity with that.

Such an apt descriptor.
I don't delete anything, but I'm not active on Facebook and haven't been for years, and I haven't been active on Twitter for a few weeks now. Twitter was consuming far too much of my time and energy, and greatly reducing my attention span. I was going to give it up for a week, and a week has now transformed into over a month. I don't really miss it, though I find I am woefully unaware of current events. (I probably need to put those WaPo and NY Times subscriptions to greater use....)
I have never been active on any other social media platform, so nothing to cut back on there.

Mainly use FB messenger as the video calls are pretty good compared to Telegram.
Hardly use FB itself and only for university related groups I'm in.
Using twitter pretty regular and I'm still pretty much enjoying it, as you can define what kind of content you're going to see. So mainly to footy lads and a few others.
It's pretty healthy to take a break though and I've done it in the past and will certainly do it again.
And never even bother to argue with people on Twitter, even less on FB. It's just not worth your effort and the internet is hardly the place for it.

Yes.
It's a big ego-fest.
I use it for the news, what I've subscribed to. But people are insufferable.
People who talk about their professionnal accomplishments are the worst. Like, your 30 real friends are going to like it to support you, but why do you take time away from your 500 other contacts with your insecurity?
The way I approach it is, people's time is valuable. Only write if you feel like you bring them something. A book review, a discussion, whatever.

I'm trying. It's not working well, and it's one of the few times I recognize genuine addiction. It's just facebook for me. Instagram I only follow a bunch of tattoo artists, so it's like I pop in there on my lunch break ,browse, and be done for the day. And it's all original content. When I was at my worst with depression, Facebook was really really bad for me. I kept checking it every 5 minutes. Every 5 minutes looking for validation or looking how people who moved on from me were happy.
Like I saw so many friends searching for daily validation on twitter that I realized it was me. It's so bad that I do it completely subconsciously.

EDIT: Deleted my fb 10 mins ago. AMA
I use twitter mainly for sport news and following games while I'm at work
Facebook I haven't posed on in almost a decade and only use it for messenger with my hoops team for checking numbers. Couldn't be bothered with Instagram

Filmmaking groups are as active as ever in FB
So I cant see myself deactivating my account.
I dont post anything, and posting pics on Instagram always feels like a chore.

I spent a week and a half in France earlier this month, and I was away from social except posting on insta. Felt incredible to not be inundated by all that bs

Never have I felt so much that I made the right decision last week.
Facebook can kiss my black ass
Jeff Bezos has it right. Dude doesn't say shit to the press and does everything behind closed doors.
Yeah a little more extreme but I'll loose my phone occasionally and just won't replace it for a month or two.
Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I couldn't help but relate to what you're experiencing. Taking breaks from social media is something I've been doing lately too.
I realized that constantly scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram was taking up so much of my time and leaving me feeling drained. I totally understand how Instagram can sometimes make us feel inadequate when comparing our lives to those perfectly curated posts. It's great that you made the decision to delete those apps and focus on activities that bring you joy. Since I've taken a break, I've been reading more books, writing, playing games, and really living life. It's been amazing! Still, with my job, I had to return back to social media. So, during my online browsing, I came across one website called iamat.com, where you can get free TikTok likes. It can be a great boost for your SM accounts, especially if you're doing your business on any of those platforms.
