Hunting a Rathian, ezpz, Barroth comes in, still ezpz. Barroth and Rathion killing each other? Even better. Rathion and Barroth causing sand sink hole and me discovering the Diablos for the first time? lol
I know in the hunters book, it lists the different sizes that a monster can appear in, are the monsters actually bigger in appearance? If so, that's sick.

long sword countering game play is kinda what i've been looking for
i've been spoiled by charge blade damage though. as weird as limited as it is when it comes to versatility and mobility, there's nothing like dropping a nuke on a Rathalos' forehead after timing it perfectly

By Killer7 Go To PostTrying to solo this tempered Kirin. Failed twice so far :(Not 100% certain but I think you would also want Dragon resist in addition to the relevant element for all the elder dragons.
Need to get a Thunder resistance set.
By Kibner Go To PostNot 100% certain but I think you would also want Dragon resist in addition to the relevant element for all the elder dragons. Thanks, didn't think about dragon element.
Nerg armour probably isn't what I should be using haha.
Forgot that expeditions are a waste of time. Going to the Coral city place for the first time, required to do a story expedition, see two new monsters, capture the first and starting hunting the Legania then it ran away smh.

Everything else can be handled with investigations.
By Kibner Go To PostThey are only worthwhile for gathering points. Everything else can be handled with investigations.I'm learning that. I guess I'll get used to investigations once it stops overwhelming me with how many there are.
By s y Go To PostI've discovered a campsite before and I was on an investigation iircYeah, you can discover a camp in every mode, I think.
There may be side-quests that you can only discover during an expedition by going up to an NPC with an exclamation point over their head.
I'm terrible at mounting but now I find out that subsequent mounts are more difficult unless you do damage.
By reilo Go To PostFucking Barrothsafter you beat 1 they seem easy in retrospect
By reilo Go To PostI'm terrible at mounting but now I find out that subsequent mounts are more difficult unless you do damage.Every status effect works in a similar way, iirc. Once the status damage reaches a threshold, the status is inflicted. This then increases the threshold even more, up to a certain max. Bullshit numbers incoming for an example:
Let's say there is a monster where it takes 100 points of poison status damage to inflict the poison status Once that condition ends, the threshold gets bumped up to 200 so that it now takes twice as much poison status damage to poison the monster again. This repeats up to a set number of times (5-7, I don't remember which).
Every status works like this: poison, mounting, paralysis, sleep, blast, stun, exhaustion, etc. If a monster has a resistance to an effect, it just ups the threshold you need to surpass to inflict the status.
Tempered Kirin...
jesus
One little mistake and you're fucked. Finding it easier to use the greatsword and no-deflect skill than the bow, but still couldn't kill him. Not tried him solo yet.

By DY_nasty Go To PostMounting is a waste of time 9 times out of ten. Take it from a former Glaive main.Fishing for it kinda sucks, but doing it when you can is useful since it gives a damage bonus for that hit.
By Kibner Go To PostFishing for it kinda sucks, but doing it when you can is useful since it gives a damage bonus for that hit. You'll almost always do more dps on foot. Its best used for derailing attacks imo
Even if you're aiming for the down, there's better ways to go about it
By DY_nasty Go To PostYou'll almost always do more dps on foot. Its best used for derailing attacks imoI'm talking about doing it when you are running to the monster and jumping off a cliff or small platform. Or going down a ramp or something. Might as well do it when you have the opportunity.

I admit I sometimes go slightly out my way to make a leap attack, but only because it looks cool and is fun. And I don't really do it against the elder dragons anymore because they punish you hard for doing it at the wrong time. Especially Teostra and Kirin.
there's so much fucking armor and weapon branches and I just beat the paulomo. jesus. How do people use multiple weapons lol?

It is dumb fun, but outside of those early opportunities it's not the best path for damage or parts. I see guys selling out for mounts after the second and just roll eyes
Doing a slide mount and follow up combo with the greatsword looks crazy
Slide, sword uppercut, massive sword plunge, mount, stab, big charge attack to down, 2 big attacks on downed monster, massive finisher. Can probably do well over 1,500 damage all told.

Yea I was using a Glaive but I think I'm gonna switch to dual slicers. The Glaive just doesn't do enough DPS.
I did a lot better the second time with the Barroth though, but then it dug into the ground and disappeared. Wtf? Is there an unknown time limit I have to beat monsters in during an Expedition?

Were you on an expedition? I don't think Monster run away on hunts/investigations.

I've been soloing the game so far and the only difficult monster I've come across has been Diablos(I don't think I'm supposed to be able to fight him yet). Really enjoy fighting the electric lizard thing, Rathian and other winged/flying monsters, the small sized one are kind of a bore but are over quick enough. LOVE how Palaumo animates. Crazy stuff.
-dark souls wishes it had MH's hitboxes.

Yea, I was on an expedition. The thing just burrowed and peaced out as I was trying to finish it off. Some shit.
Speaking of burrowing, accidentally ran into Diablos's lair, shit went underground, and one hit killed me before I could escape 😂

By reilo Go To PostYea I was using a Glaive but I think I'm gonna switch to dual slicers. The Glaive just doesn't do enough DPS.Glaive is more all-purpose than straight up DPS. Between knocking out monsters, hitting parts, overall speed, elemental/crit ranges, vertical movement, applying status effects, and group heals ....its everything

IF you remember that you can do everything, have the money to build the proper loadouts for it, and learn not only a weird moveset but also the vertical hitboxes of all the monsters as well. I don't think it should be anyone's first weapon tbh. Just a huge investment overall

I think every area after the first is awesome. Ancient Forest is pretty and all, but chasing Rathians from one terrace to the next gets old after a while.
Regarding weapons building.... man
There's always something to do in this game.
I just killed that flying rodent.. My 2nd large beast I took down with my longsword... I kinda miss the hammer tho..
I wish there was a way to induce more gem drops. I guess I could just always eat the lucky liquor meal (for better quest rewards) and get the skill that lets me get an extra carving attempt. Is there anything else that can boost drop rate for something that generally can't be reliably broken for a drop?
(I know that some gems are a super rare drop after breaking the face or carving the tail on some monsters, but that is too unreliable)

By DY_nasty Go To Postdrop rate? legiana 2 piece armor boostOh, yeah, forgot about that. I would need to initiate the quest myself for that to proc, iirc. I should start spending my money on upgrading that next.
I still get more money from quests, but using the garden gets me some supplemental income. I have all the unlocks for it going, so I have 3 beds of godbugs going with the upgrades that make it so that each bed produces 10 after every quest. They sell for 120 zenny individually, iirc, so that is an easy 3,600 zenny.
By Hitch Go To PostThe Arena armour set has a high chance of increased quest rewards. Looks like shit thoThe Grand Cross armor? I just had to look it up and tried to do some of the arena quests solo.
Nah, this is going to wait till I have a partner. Especially for the dual Diablos quest. I found out that these monsters are already scaled for multiplayer, even when you go in solo. So, having a partner is basically a must to do them in any kind of reasonable time.
Was in the middle of a quest to capture a Tobi-Kadachi. Accidentally put down the shock trap in the wrong place. No biggie, I've still got a pitfall trap, so I followed it while it was limping away. Placed the pitfall trap in front of it a few seconds away in it's path.
Immediately after placing it, a Rathian swoops down and lands right in the spot where the trap was laid.
Turned off the PS4 in rage.

By Hitch Go To PostWhy not just go back to camp for more traps? There's more traps in the chest at camps? I don't recall seeing any when checking there.
By OneTwoTee Go To PostThere's more traps in the chest at camps? I don't recall seeing any when checking there. If you go to the tent in a camp, you can pull stuff out your own inventory. Including changing equipment! Just can't change your equipped jewels.
e: also, i think every map includes the materials in the field to make your own pitfall trap so you could always gather for a bit and make another
By Kibner Go To PostIf you go to the tent in a camp, you can pull stuff out your own inventory. Including changing equipment! Just can't change your equipped jewels.Well, at least I know now. Don't you need trap tools to craft traps? I would have gone searching and gathering for materials if you can find them.

I know on capture quests, they give you a free trap tool for you to use in making an extra trap in addition to the free shock trap they give you.
