Outside of a world/civil war, there has been no wilder period in American history than this one right here. And we're only one year in.

There are lots of arresting details in the book. We learn that the administration holds special animus for what it calls “D.O.J. women,” or women who work in the Justice Department. Wolff writes that after the white supremacist mayhem in Charlottesville, Va., Trump privately rationalized “why someone would be a member of the K.K.K.” The book recounts that after the political purge in Saudi Arabia, Trump boasted that he and Kushner engineered a coup: “We’ve put our man on top!”https://nyti.ms/2E7W60C
It feels like all the scandals happening at once all over again
Everything that has been picked from the book in quotes I read so far doesn't even have me shocked. More like "duh!" or "well that makes sort of sense". Sloppy Steve, Mooch was onto something.
Been listening to Fire and Fury at work this morning. Must listen to anyone following politics. This shit cray
Like, everybody sans Bannon, including even Trump himself getting ready to spin the election L for their own devices--Trump network, Conway a TV news star, etc, with nobody really wanting him to actually win--or even thinking he has any business being president, then it just happens.

I plan on getting it
Copped Fire and Fury on the Kindle. Wanted to read more this year anyway. Waiting on lunch and I'm going in.
this is probably the most entertaining shit I've listened to in a while
The strange description of Melania as a straight up trophy wife that still maintains some emotional dependency, and outright unabashed FACT that Trump is just a straight up womanizer--it's such a remarkable commentary on the dissonance of America in general

Remember when Trump was giving a speech with Melania standing next to him but it was someone dressed up to look like her? Did we ever find out what that was all about?
By Random Ass Username Go To PostOh bullshit, the 60s and 70s had plenty of turmoil.
This one has actual nazi rallies with tacit government support.
It has a gameshow host as president who somehow gets away with grabbing womens' genitalia and bragging about it.
It has child molestors banned from malls openly running for the senate.
It has high stakes nuclear tensions with Dennis Rodman's best friend.
It has actual congressmen being shot.
It has the Russians rigging a national election and a huge chunk of the government working to cover it up.
It has most of the presidential inner circle quite possibly going to jail.
It has legalized weed.
It has elected transgendered politicians.
It has race riots.
It has mass feminist demonstrations with pussy hats.
It has sudden deportations and people detained at airports.
It has floods, fires and crazy storms and weather patterns as the environment collapses around us.
It has mass shootings on a scale never seen before.
It has open socialists as big time candidates for a major party.
It has covfefe.
And you're comparing this to entire decades. Like I said, one year in.
Graham golfs with Trump. Now Graham wants a special prosecutor to investigate Christopher Steele. I'm sure that's merely a coincidence.

wtf @ the books casual dropping of bannon being a key figure behind gamergate specifically for the festering of alt right ideology
By s y Go To PostThe USA elected a black man in 2008 and he wasn't assassinated.
And his middle name was Hussein to boot.
So that's still one of those "I can't believe that actually happened" things, but it was on the level of understandable historic event. The clearly more intelligent and charismatic candidate won by using cutting edge voter data collection and analysis against Team Palin in the wake of lingering resentment over the Iraq War and the Bush II era.
2017 was a constant and ongoing process of what fucking timeline have I woken up in? Like really, if somebody stepped out of a giant shining metal sphere in front of me right now and said "you're not going to believe me but-" I'd be like "no, you can stop right there, whatever it is I believe you. What do I have to do to separate the world lines again and enter Steins Gate?"
Because it's not just that this year was all tacky and horrible and racist. It's that this might have been the year that truth was assassinated. If Mueller can't actually nail these guys - or worse, if they get to him first - we're suddenly in a place where controlled media narratives pushing emotional buttons can overcome any mountain of evidence. We're actually on the cusp of a terrifying paradigm shift in the dynamics of human public consciousness here. Because there's no way this is the last we've seen of these tactics.
Bannon is a super villain the book makes that very clear
Trump is just literally fucking dumb and senile

Apollo Missions.
Nixon elected.
The Troubles starts up.
Riots at the Democratic National Convention.
US, Paris, Poland, Germany, Brazil, Mexico and others see student protests against war, government, poverty, etc.
Airline highjackings, didn't start but it ramped up towards the late 60s and were all over the 70s.
Numerous coups were underway including one that would put Saddam in charge of Iraq.
Zodiac Killer makes his first strike. Kind of the harbinger for what would be the 70s craziness with Son of Sam, Manson Family, et al.

Because there's no way this is the last we've seen of these tactics. While people are making this claim and I don't deny the level of denying as hit some ridiculous levels, we also are getting a bit narrow and myopic about it. Our past government has lied plenty, especially in regards to what we're doing overseas. Vietnam, for instance, was one fucking lie after another. What we're seeing now is so much lying in real time in spite of what we know and can figure out for ourselves. Plenty of lying going down during Iraq too that we just let slide. Really Bush II's reign was a precursor to what folks could get away with and the American people doing dick about it.
I'm specifically talking about US politics. Much of the world was just fine in 2017. The MLK assassination is the only thing I don't really see as having an equivalent last year. The Manson murders were gruesome but not on the level of the Vegas shooting. The Apollo mission was huge, but in the long term I don't know that it's more significant in human history than the editing of the dna of a human embryo, which occurred for the first time this year.
By Random Ass UsernameReally Bush II's reign was a precursor to what folks could get away with and the American people doing dick about it.
Sure. "Post-truth" was a term that came out of the neo-con movement, not populist trumpism. The difference is that it wasn't backed up by an alternate digital media structure that doesn't have to cross over with the 'mainstream' media at all. People live their days now going from outlet to outlet, social media bubble to social media bubble, without ever having to interact directly with reporting or views that contradict their own preferred political version of reality.
There are a whole ton of people who really think Hillary is walking around with an ankle monitor because she was secretly arrested after pizzagate. A decade ago, that type of story would have only been in Weekly World News-tier crazy tabloids.
things are really picking up--the fire sessions stuff is gaining steam which is nothing more than first move necessary to try to get to Mueller
