By HasphatsAnts Go To PostThey should at least tell us how many engagements were generated off those tweets.Engagements and impressions, yea. Raw total of tweets is useless, how many people saw and interacted with them is a better indicator.
I'm kinda not surprised that there's only a few thousand tweets. They could be trying to make the propaganda push much harder to detect
not saying it will work of course, just that on paper it's probably the smarter move when you're already being scrutinised.

There's just been no emphasis on countering that form of propaganda or foreign influence. And even then, it's unorthodox.

If you create a willingness/urge for a prolife or women's empowerment gathering and at the same time push a hard right or otherwise directed gathering in the same location - you've got an easy, *local and directly impactful to many* polarizing and loud event with almost no effort at all.
If old people bothered to care about social media before last month, I'm sure there'd be more of an answer and response to it.

Democracies brehs
Give 52% of the people the right to fuck up 48% of the people
Tbf it's a significant improvement on the 1% being given the right to fuck up the 99% on the basis that they're rich. Although we just get that as standard anyway.
I don't know if it's a significant improvement. It's the 1% manipulating the 99% again to further line their pockets and generally for the luls.

Hey guys we defeated ISIS!
On the plus side, no more terrorists seeking asylum now so you can call Brexit off

By DY_nasty Go To PostTOTALLY not in response to their citizens raising hell right now
Does that matter?
Everyone, without exception, has missed this boat.
Yes it absolutely matters because unless there's third party control or regulation then no one should trust state monitored/influenced media on that kind of scale.
That slope isnt just slippery, it's lubed up and waxed. You can police intrusive actions without telling kids which ideas are bad...
Again, with all their shit going on they REALLY gotta be scrutinized for it.

I hear China's new "how to spot lies on the Internet" education program is a smashing success
:kappa:

Depends how it's done. It should be source checking and reasoning exercises, obviously.
I don't actually automatically assume France are going to enact some North Korean style "education" system because I don't have an intrinsic weird distrust of all governments ever.
You can argue any and all government schemes and apparatus are going to be abused by some future theoretical Bad Government.

There's just so much wrong with that method... If the government can barely identity or track the effects of that shit, then what are they even asking people to do?
Not only is it inherently ineffective, its just a gateway to controlling all sorts of social growth.
Edit: Didn't see your post yet. I'm not saying it's a North Korean "all hail glorious leader" stuff. But you have to acknowledge that grooming ideology and social value systems are already done by every government or organized political group with the opportunity to involve themselves with child development.
It doesn't need MORE options to influence that. Especially when more times than not the purpose is to maintain a status quo and be generally anti-progressive.

it's better than nothing but ultimately a band aid solution when they should just legally compel these platforms to fix themselves.
In all honesty some critical thinking and learning to properly write an essay and cite sources can cut through most bullshit. Education in this way has really not been a priority in many places though.

Trouble is on one hand you can argue wide systemic regulation of news etc is bad because of course what if future Bad Government starts filtering out all real news to nefarious effect / ends?
Or maybe if we try and educate kids about fake news the future Bad Government will brain wash and warp these poor souls?
Do we just try nothing?
DY, be a better solutions man.

Education being a higher priority in general would curve a lot of shit... And giving people less to raise hell about.

What ultimately was going to come of this?
Like how exactly has anyone effectively punished Facebook?
