Most of the older posters just posted some in OT for shits and giggles but it's mostly the community threads, aggregated quick news and informative gearnerd shit that was the point. I see most folks lamenting the loss of chuckles with certain communities and OT threads.

There was definitely dogpiling, but then again GAF or really any forum has always has dogpiling. It's the nature of discourse when that many people get involved, it's pretty inevitable. We're not going to sit here and act like "SonyPonies" or "Xbros", and the myriad of gaming related arguments, mass bans, thread locks, meltdowns, megatons, etc aren't forms of dogpiling in one way or another. That PS3 fans going on a posting rage over FFXIII announcement and tar and feathering anyone who was even remotely fine with the announcement as an Xbox fanboy. Think of a forum where there is no dogpile and I can bet money that the makeup of that forum is homogeneous as hell, and even then there are dogpiles when one person things X is better than Y. But folks see that as an acceptable dogpiling because it's just two or more groups arguing over their passions even when they get heated and personal.

I'm actually ok with people justifying on why they're not buying the game - it can be a good discussion starter. What bores me is going to the game announcement thread and seeing everything shitposting and treating the game like shit because of the developer. And every time someone said something positive he/she would be immediately shit talked for supporting the developer.

You can see how that bores someone that just wan't to see some info on the game.

I guess 3 years after someone gave me the heads up on this place- back when it was still pretty hush hush- is as good as time as any to finally make an account.

I'm gonna miss GAF. It really became a hub of information, and turned into a site I could visit a few times a day to catch up on almost everything happening on Earth hour to hour. I avoided the controversial stuff and pretty much had a great 10 year run from lurking back when IGN's boards were still rocking, to posting when I realized all the news from every other site was pointing back to this NeoGAF place. The vibe was definetely getting weirder in the last few years though, and most especially since political Trump became a thing. This is unavoidable though, so I don't hold it against people too much. We're not in a good place culturally right now, and it's filtering into EVERYTHING, not just on GAF.

But now it's dead, jim. Welp.

Hopefully SLAENT and whatever the GAF Discord is working on can fill the massive hole left by this implosion. I am not trying to be an internet hobo again. Looking forward to GAF-Hop, Movie-GAF, Criterion-GAF (where we discuss real movies *adjusts monocle*), and every other community I frequented being rebuilt, somewhere somehow.

Another refugee here. I’m a weirdo who enjoyed reading threads a lot more than posting in them, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read here so far.

The whole ordeal has made me think about what I really enjoyed on GAF, and it was like 50% a mega newsfeed and 50% discussing peculiar games with nice, well nurtured communities.

Honestly, I’m not looking for a 1:1 replacement, I’m just looking for a place/places where I can discuss my dumb hobbies without having other posters go into full gator asshole mode all of a sudden. And I’m also looking for a place where I can keep reading people I’ve enjoyed reading over the years. I’ve seen a lot of them here, so there’s that.

Every crazy person with an ax to grind have aired their grievances with the site and its mods, and 80% of what I’ve read was crazy, but all the EL stuff... yeah, GAF going down in flames is ultimately a good thing if that guy doesn’t own shit now.

Some reactions to the whole thing have been interesting to say the least. From shitty youtubers to that guy from the Last Night, the celebration couldn’t have looked pettier and done for all the wrong reasons.

Man, I hope Crossing Eden lands somewhere. After years of taking shit, he’s going to be vindicated by Assassin’s Creed Origins.

I thought the topic of discussion was pretty obvious: my bad.

Angelus has a reputation of being protected by the mods. He could shitpost and stir the pot with whatever racebait topics he wanted. He'd get temp bans (way more than most people ever got before being perma'd) and come back a week later. I find it hilarious that he's lecturing people on how great the culture of neogaf was.

I had absolutely no idea about the Spain story, that was disgusting. But everytime I saw his name in a thread, I avoided posting because almost every time he posted, people would get banned just for disagreeing with him. Neogaf was far from perfect; it was very difficult to have discussions on certain subjects that didn't descend into ridiculous hyperbole (e.g. Dark Souls 2 threads) and the dogpiling would get a bit much sometimes but I cannot think of a single forum that had as much good discussion and debate as it and I am sad to see it gone.

Also I wanna know before I waste my time, how much are posters like rev tolerated/how numerous are they?
