Yeah, that hella sucks.
But it's money. You can get more. You can't buy another mother. I could see if she were intentionally being emotionally abusive, but poor stewardship doesn't sound like grounds for being disowned.
Oh that's just the beginning. I'll just say I haven't seen one of my sisters since I was 16 years old. I'm 31 now. She won't come around as long as my mother is alive. My sister has two kids that I have never met. She has nothing to do with our family simply because she hates our mother.
I haven't seen my brother in nearly 4 years.
I can't be around my dad. It was bad before - but after all that went down since i joined, I'll probably deck the guy if he ever forgets to watch his tone around me again. I respect their household, but I know I have no place in it anymore. Better my brother grow up without me adding fuel to the fires there. It's an L I've already accepted.

Waiting all this week on a phone call to see if I got this job I interviewed for.
Last time out I had to compete with 40+ people for one accounting gig over the course of a month, this job pays significantly less than that one but I'm up against about the same amount of people.

Wow. Well then. Hell hath no fury and all that.
Can you go visit your sister?
Morris, the economy is forever screwed. I read an article out of Forbes a few weeks ago how billionaires are beginning to liquidate their assets because they can make more on interest than investing in the unstable economy. IDK how true that is, but one thing is certain: the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.
When I was growing up I thought moving to Murica after school would be great. It's amazing how much has changed in 20 years
When I was growing up I thought moving to Murica after school would be great. It's amazing how much has changed in 20 yearsVery real chance I take my talents to New Zealand in a few years.
Do it. New Zealand is great. Food is fantastic, and it's a beautiful place. Only three hour flight to Australia as well, and the NZ dollar is a lot stronger now.
North or South Island?

I've had more than one job offer from there. Back when I thought my shoulder injury was gonna cost me my job, the first place that actively engaged any job discussion with me was out there.
North or South Island?
South Island is pretty quiet, not a lot of big cities outside of Dunedin and Christchurch, and the latter has been pretty fucked up thanks to earthquakes. Everywhere gets cold as fuck in winter for this part of the world. Some of the best lamb and wine you'll ever have though. Queenstown is p. awesome for skiing, and it's a bit of a college party town I've heard.

Yeah, queenstown gets very messy at times. Fun place though.
Culture shock though, the cities there are.... very small.
South island is incredibly pretty though. Very lush. And the weather shouldn't be surprising really pilon, the south island is basically on the same lateral as Tasmania.
Really nice place the south island, my favorite of the two.
Queenstown has the best burgers I've ever had (Fergburger). I don't mind the small cities since I grew up in Maitland/Newcastle and Christchurch is around the same size.
I know it's similar to tasmania but if DY is coming from Hawaii or wherever he was before it will be a bit of a shock. Also probably much more rain.

Oh, for someone coming from the USA the tiny size of the place / population (numbers wise, not individuals) will all be a huge shock i'd imagine.
As an Alabama boy, a small place is welcome. My wife and I can't stand big cities. Just came back from my first vacation in three years. I already discussed that tho.
Left the kids with their grandparents in Texas for the rest of the Summer. They don't come back until August 3rd. I miss them, but also, not really. It's like a second homeymoon for my wife and myself.
Yesterday was supposedly the last day that Terminator 1 was going to be on Netflix. I suggested that we watch it and she said ok. Crazy how in nine years of marriage you forget subtle things like your woman loving explosions in action movies (Terminator is Sci Fi, but w/e). We're going to see Transformers tonight.
In terms of employment, someone above me just up and quit, which came out of nowhere. Put like 15 years in on the job and was just like "eff this BS!" Walked off the job without saying anything to anyone. IDK how you just do that. But it happened, so now I have her slot, giving me guaranteed hours and OT if I want it. Bad news is that I have to get up at 3 AM and when the kids come back they will only see me once per day because I'll be gone when they get up from school. Good news is I can put in a 10 hour day and still make it home before they will.
Word is there are opportunities for promotion here at Meijer, and they plan to fill several supervisor positions (since I'm a scrub, I would have to do second shift). I'm gong to stick it out and see what happens. Everyone seems to be impressed by me and my Master's. We'll see.

I haven't been able to get into any group therapy stuff at all because the head of the group therapy stuff at my click is a dumbass. Now, after two months of waiting and receiving no counseling, I'm trying to find a group outside the clinic I usually go to. This summer has sucked a little bit :/. My overall anxiety and depression are down a ton with my medication, but my OCD and social anxiety are still bad...

I have depression and anxiety in my family. My mother and brother are both bipolar, I tend to worry about myself at times.
Most times I don't feel very depressed, but sometimes I feel that anxiety tick..
Mental health in Japan sucks tho.. lol
I would think group therapy would make my anxiety even worse
Just seeing you don't have it so bad can do wonders for you
In a way that's how we got my brother to start taking meds
In my job I talk to people from every corner of the Earth. New Zealanders are hands down the chillest. I figure they must have it good there.
It's funny because there's always a lot of talk about how violent and scary Pacific Islanders are, but the vast majority of them are the nicest, most humble and laid back people you will ever meet.
UNLESS you fuck with their family, that is what pisses them off.
I always enjoy going to NZ, wish I could do it more often.

Due to a complete fluke, I might be lucking into a course that'll shoot my career forward 2-4 years. I don't even know how to be happy when stuff like this happens. I'm not this lucky.

Got a call from my dad after he saw one of my letters (that was vaguely associated with my climate lobby) to the editor published in the paper. He thinks I've endangered him and myself and that I'm either a part of a terrorist organization or being targeted by one (or both). He has lost touch entirely with reality and it's getting frightening since he's still not in his 60s even. He's had mental problems forever, but they're getting worse. I really should help him to find a better therapist, but he's such a horrible person (he hates women, the LGBTQ community, Muslims, immigrants, Hispanics, African Americans, disabled persons, Jews... and far more) that it's impossible to talk to him.
-The actions by ISIS have brought more suffering to the people of the Middle East.
-Oil is already getting mentioned too much instead of the people suffering from the attacks.
-We need to focus on moving away from oil so that our only concerns about Middle Eastern conflicts are how to best help the people devastated by the fighting.
But mentioning ISIS once has him thinking that he'll be targeted by them. It's scary hearing his paranoia.

I always think those people that hate that much will be better once they get proper treatment. But .... i've never had to deal with it in person my self.

Oh you said "vaguely associated", was expecting something challenging the usual climate change PR.
But mentioning ISIS once has him thinking that he'll be targeted by them. It's scary hearing his paranoia. He must be super worried about North Korea attacking any moment now.
My dad has slipped into absolute psychosis, he's avoided mental care for years, but I have to get him a therapist as soon as I can. This is going to suck.
Meant to post this earlier but got back from Hawaii last week from my honeymoon.
Ay man...never seen anything like that place. Did not want to come home. At all. We were on Oahu and had a car for most of the time so we really went through the island and away from all of the tourist areas. We were there for 8 days so enough time to get used to the culture, time change, and other aspects of the island. Did para sailing, tons of snorkeling, a 2 hr ATV ride through the jungle areas. The speed limit is 45mph on the highway and that legit spooked me at first. That's the speed limit on every street down here. A few pics I took:
Burger spot was amazing.
Our hotel view
This was on our 2 hr ATV ride @ Kuoala Ranch. This was probably one of the top activities I've ever done. Just riding back through the valleys and areas that are only accessible ATVs.
hanauma bay where we went snorkeling. The dark areas are the coral. Tons of fish and other sea life down there. Got a bunch of footage with my underwater camera. This was right behind the ATV ride for me.
A view from one of the nature tours we went on.
Took tons of pictures but thought I'd share a few. Definitely want to go back. The tales are true though...they will break your pockets out there. It's ridiculous.

Hawaii looks amazing, doubt i'll ever have the money to go there. I mean, like stay at a resort n stuff like you did Smokey. Was snorkeling as amazing as everybody who's snorkeled claimed it to be?
Anyways, i bought some Oberto beef jerky at the check out line since I never tasted beef jerky.
Holy fuck that was really awful, I had to spit that shit out right away. I mean, wow, I was not expecting it to taste like that at all. It could legitimately pass for dog food or treat, the smell, texture pretty much screamed dog food. I actually ended up giving it to my Aunt's dogs , at least they seemed to really like it.

Hawaii is great. Place doesn't feel all that different to the gold coast in Australia to me. But i spent most of the time on the beach / by the pool just chilling / reading.
Snorkeling is great.
I live in the best place in the world to fly to Hawaii for cheap and yet I never have. It annoys me to no end.

Wouldn't you spend most of your time hiding though, all that sun?

It was pretty fun. Very awkward at first since it's obviously not natural to breathe underwater. And you hear yourself. It took me a second to get used to it,not panic, and control my breathing. Once I got that down I was good to go. I spent about a hour in that bay above snorkeling by myself. Wife wasn't about that life no matter how hard I tried. Went a nice little ways out until the water got cold and I did a nope.jpg and turned back around. If I had a partner with me it probably would've been even better.
Tons of sea life. They just mind their business and feed on the coral . Eels, turtles, and other stuff down there. Where we stayed wasn't a resort. Just a hotel that was on the beach. Destroyed pockets ....$27 a night to park your car :l
We did a non stop flight from Houston to Honolulu both ways. 8 hrs. Never flying United again on a long flight. Terrible.

Oahu is similar but Maui/Big Island are nothing like it and really awesome. Hapuna Beach was the nicest beach I went to, much better than anything in Australia mainly because it was cleaner and less crowded. Would love to go back.

Hawaii is great but if cost is a big thing from keeping you from going look into the Virigin Islands if you haven't been. Its a lot cheaper and also really nice.
IWMTB - I've had family go down that road and its always rough. All you can do is do your best in that spot... I had to deal with my uncle going through that at a much younger age and I wish I'd been able to handle it better.
As for Hawaii. Man FUCK the DoD. I'm basically going to work 'for fun' now since my 80+ leave days overlap my actual GTFO date. I didn't mind it before because I can always cash my leave days in and get some extra money. Today, these motherfuckers tell me that I *can't* start outprocessing until the 1st of August. Which puts my real GTFO date closer to August 20-27
I had it in my head that I could get out of here on my birthday, July 28th lmao
motherfuckers never loved us

lol crying about an 8 hour flight, try going non stop from LA to Sydney or traveling from Sydney to London (22-26 hours depending on where you stop to refuel)

You're stationed in Hawaii tho? I thought you were there at one time, but not now. Does the shine wear off if you live there or no?

I'm sure you had some type of entertainment on that 22 hr flight. United dicked us with a 3 hour delay and proceed to tell us they are having "mechanical issues". First off what in the fuck. As a negro I already feel some type of way flying. Especially over water. Not trying to hear some "mechanical issues" on a plane I'm about to board. Literally had MH370 on my mind after they kept announcing it but couldn't solve the problem.
Then they are piloting a new program where you have to use your own device to watch their movies. You have to log into their WIFI to do so. Nothing can ever go wrong with 300 people trying to login and watch movies at the same time. Yeah no. Bandwidth exceeded. So here I am on this flight with literally no form of entertainment. Our seats where right by the wing so looking out of the window you were slapped with nothing but that. I loaded up some movies on the way back so I learned my lesson. They did give us free alcohol though.
Everyone I talked to since returning has told me yeah...United is one of the worse options. Nothing but praise for Delta though.

I just now how I am now though. I fell in love with Arizona because (in that area) no matter what happens, it'll always be beautiful in every direction you look. You only live once and I always liked the small town vibe. When I was there, I didn't do any of the tourist stuff at all though.
Man I'm about to take my first driving lesson (I know mad late) in 15 minutes and I'm nervous as fuck. But you can't live anywhere outside of NYC and you can't drive  . Also I am like 90% sure I am going to go to Tomorrowworld in September and Plur the fuck out!!! My boys are going and invited me and the idea of "partying" for 4 days straight is making everything else a whole lot more bearable lol.

It is surprisingly easy, I got everything my first day, the only thing that you might need to practice on is reversing or braking. It's a lot easier than learning how to ride a bike.
I had trouble getting turns down and with smooth braking but it was my first lesson so I got to charge that to the game. I am amazed as many people drive as they do, its not simple to do at all
also acceleration that shit is scary  like you got to be gentle like a motherfucker.
