god fuck nightmare's dream. Finally got to the second lantern. Fuck those snake-lightning-sideways faced goons.
I also just noticed that skill effects attack & defense. Have my strength at 43 & Skill at 20.

It's super confusing how to progress in this game... so all of Old Yharnam is optional? And the way to proceed to Vicar Amelia is by purchasing an Hunter Chief Emblem for 10,000 echoes (no idea if or where the game tells you that, I can't for the life of me remember that it did), OR go the long way through Old Yharnam by defeating the Blood-starved Beast (also optional, but not really) which then gives you access to a Hunter Chief Emblem via the Healing Church Workshop? If I hadn't read a walkthrough, I would've never been able to figure this shit out on my own.
Idk, but I haven't really run into the problem of not knowing where to go to proceed outside of the forbidden woods. There are usually only 2 different routes or directions you can go, I go one way and when I'm finished I go back and go the other way.
Maybe it's because you're returning after not playing for so long?
-although if it wasn't for ciaran not telling me about the upper cathedral key I'm not sure if I would have discovered how to get it. Probably plenty of stuff like that I've missed.

All of these areas are brand new to me. When you light the lamp in the Cathedral Ward, there's a door to the right of you to get to the Healing Church Workshop, but the game just says it's "closed". You then have the option of trying to get to Grand Cathedral, but that's locked behind a gate, and again, no in-game information telling you how to open it. It kind of forces you via Old Yharnam but it's not clear that going that way will eventually open up a path to Vicar Amelia to proceed with the story. And Old Yharnam isn't fun because it's very long without many shortcuts available. You somehow have to make it to the Bloodstarved Beast, kill it, and then you can make it back to Cathedral Ward.
Huh? Old Yharnam is probably one of the smaller areas. Keep going, there are a ton of shortcuts. A ton.
I found one which leads to Djura, but there's no good ones to get you quickly to the abandoned warehouse or to the ladder leading up to Djura.

Skill doesn't necessarily increase your attack per se (it does increase your Visceral Attack damage significantly though), it's all about the weapon you're holding and how it scales with that particular stat. Some have C in Skill, some higher or lower. With your current build, you'll beast it with B and above
you can turn the weapon's scaling completely by using Blood Gems anyway

Ladder shortcut that leads to the ladder up to gatling gun dude from the warehouse
Theres a shortcut from the lamo that takes you to the warehouse or a much quicker path to get to the BSB.
Ah fuck me, if I hadn't fallen off like an idiot earlier, I would've been super close to unlocking the quickest shortcut. smh
Dammit.

By Ciaran Go To PostI just love their attention to detail <3 each enemy placement and item is telling you a story. Yahar'gul, a city decimated by an insane cult trying to summon a God (they failed)Who am I not supposed to kill? I'm fighting Micolash right now
ehehe, the Nightmare is insane, as the name implies. <3 that intro where you have to hide behind the rocks away from something's sight or risk exploding was a brilliant build up. (you need to wear Frenzy gear, Frenzy Rune and stack up on Sedatives against a few enemies btw) you're literally in their leader's dream/nightmare right now. Which is a concept they're gonna use again in the DLC to transport you back in time to see how it all really started.
btw, DON'T kill this area's second boss before finishing up the three optional areas first and the DLC. Well, you can kill him/her/it, but you might unwittingly trigger a point of no return.
By S.igh Go To PostWho am I not supposed to kill? I'm fighting Micolash right nowThe one after Micolash
you can kill the second boss, but you could trigger an early ending by simply answering a question in the Hunter's Dream. So avoid talking to German there for now
you need to collect three umbilical cords to unlock the true end boss too. But I think you wont be able to collect the third one due to missing two NPC quests :( Arianna (the prostitute) and Iofeska (the hostile one at the clinic).
the true-true end boss will forever be the one in the DLC anyway

I have the blood of arianna. Speaking of her, she isn't doing so well, she's hunched over in pain at the cathedral ward. I also killed iofeska(she attacked me first).

After you kill Micolash, go back to the Cathedral Ward and track back to the sewers.
and then...do the right and merciful thing

By Smokey Go To PostDoes Ciaran have the game memorized wtf
yes.
I do, too. I could 100% this fucker anytime.
Yurt, Laurence of Yharnamia went down first try solo without using more than 5 blood vials.
Like, big fucking difference from last year.
Why do the souls games look like shit compared to Bloodborne? Dark Souls 3 looks so......ugh. the UI looks like it was made in MS Paint off a Windows Phone.
The combat just looks so tame compared to BB. And eeeww @ the shields.

of the Souls games, DS3 is the closest to BB's pace, but still not quite as fast obviously.
and yeaaaaah nothing will ever beat Bloodborne's gothic dark fantasy setting innit? <3
although DS3 still has its moments, don't tell me this isn't hyppppe

By S.igh Go To Postlol at celestial emissary, took me like 30 seconds to kill wtfwitch and it are the easiest bosses
but the optional boss after the celestial is probably the hardest in the base game
By S.igh Go To Postlol at celestial emissary, took me like 30 seconds to kill wtfThere's another one! Break through the window next to the lantern and jump off
now the real fight begins 🙈
These bosses are getting easier & easier. Beat Ebrietas on my first go. I had a npc helping me but damn, that was just as easy as the celestial emissary. I went back & killed the Darkbeast Pearl in 30 sec too(no npc).
Yeah it's smooth sailing now. Except for the boss in Cainhurst Castle and....well, 4 out of 5 of The Old Hunters' bosses :lol probably the hardest in the game too. Tbh, the expansion as a whole was delightfully challenging.
or maybe you just got (much) better! ;)
edit: Btw our dear Hitcher from FootballSlaent is still stuck on Ebrietas....since 2015 :lol

To be fair, coop makes ebrietas a triviality. You didn't even see half of her attacks as her AI is constantly making bad decisions about who to target lol.
Blood starved beast feels impossible 😩
That one move where he goes berserk, bites you, poisons you, leaves you with 10% health makes it impossible to recover.

PSY lived to tell the tale after that combo
the key to this whole fight was just to dodge under his swings to your left
a couple of antidotes will help with the poison!
By reilo Go To PostI just lost 11,000 echoes because I fell down. smh
I lost 300,000 last night in a chalice dungeon that had a room with 2 Chime Maiden's spawning endless spiders plus 2 Werewolves.
Well Mergo's wet nurse was easy. Got it on my first go. That fog thing was tense though. For some reason the ps4 didn't let me save the full clip.
So now I have all three pieces of the umbilical cord
Do I go to cainhurst because the hunter's dream is on fire so idk

and you're about to face the final boss, so look up to see if you've missed anything before continuing on the hunter's dream
So....I went to Cainhurst, wow, the enemy design and variety never ceases to amaze. Fuck those vampires though, I never see em coming. Sweet armor sets there too.
Martyr dude was a thrilling, yet very easy fight, I'm starting to wonder if I'm over leveled because it's been a minute since a boss killed me.

PSY, COME BACK
go back to that lantern, loot his crown and go towards his chair.
.

.
to reveal the real castle :lol
Lore: Logarius is Alfred's lost master! Alfred's quest ends here, he's looking for the leader of the Vilebloods, an immortal vampire which you'll find inside.
btw, you'd do much better parrying with a pinpoint pistol, it's quicker. The shotgun is better for close range parrying tho since it spreads. They all work obviously, so it's down to what you feel more comfortable with.
