LFMartins86, I'm glad that you mentioned "The Exorcist". I had that show written off, due to it being what it was. Decided to give it a chance, past episode 1, and ended up pleasantly surprised. It's engaging. Going to be a shame if it doesn't get picked up again.
Started up "Channel Zero" and it's dope too. lol

My second favorite show on TV.
Phenomenal finale. Loops are a thing that Arnold and Ford both believed in. Their methods to madness were different. Compassion for the hosts vs making them suffer over and over again. Masterful how all the pieces came together.
Next season I bet we get to see Stubb and Elsie stuck in the woods.Steven Ogg getting a scene to smile at all the chaos around him was a nice touch.

Oh my god, the hosts are written in ES5. Like, NO WONDER it all went to hell. You could easily solve all of the problems using Flow.js and ES2016 with some proper const usage!
Ed Harris' grin and body language made it for me. He did so much with so little

The one thing I will say, is that I found it a little hard to get behind the lead, at times. I understand that he was a broken man, but he did/said some things that felt more like horror convention, then generalized normal interaction. He was shown to be able to navigate social settings pretty well, all things considered. Then he would do/say some weird shit. I fully admit that Silent Hill is tinting the hell out of my vision, in regards to that.
During the start, it was bugging me that I couldn't place why everything felt familiar. Slowly realized that it was from a damn creepypasta (also that the mom was for people like me). They did a great job adapting it. Lol. Can't wait for the next season.
Late on Westworld. Episode 1 had me shook. Looks to be amazing.

Off the top of my head, the ones I quite enjoyed were
Preacher
Ash vs Evil Dead (so fucking underrated)
Mr. Robot
Westworld
Stranger Things
Black Mirror
Better Call Saul
GoT
I'm most definitely forgetting something I liked hmmm, plenty of VERY good shows (like Vikings, The Expanse and The Night Of etc) but I'd say these were my favourites or most memorable at least.
Can we talk more about the ending to Westworld cause holy shit .... lol
- So my takes are that Dolores AND Maeve are sentient now. Maeve's programming was for her to escape. She chose to go against her programming.
- I loved that the reveal of who the MiB was paled in comparison to the real reveal of Ford's intent.
- Where is old man Abernathee? The script writer was supposed to find him and smuggle data out but at the end he finds an already empty room with no Abernathee to be found.
Where you do you all think season two will take us? We got hints about other worlds at the end of this season and Dolores and Maeve have to figure out how to make other hosts self aware.

What I liked most about Westworld is everyone had their theories and I hated most of them hoping it wouldn't happen. They happened and the writers made them pay off anyway.

I think that's because the real reveal at the end here is Ford's intent. The other reveals felt telegraphed by comparison. Ford making the hosts suffer to become self aware just wasn't even a thought in my mind. He seemed too self centered and focused on control of his dream.
Also ... I'm pretty sure Dolores doesn't understand Ford's true intent as she's blowing his head off. I think in that moment the only one who does is Bernard since Ford explained the struggle aspect of their sentience to him. Kinda curious if she finds out and how she internalizes it.
By reilo Go To PostLet's also not assume that Ford is dead.
This is true. Though I don't think it will go this way. "blood sacrifice" and all that. I enjoy thinking Ford's final act is a selfless one too. Him sending his doppelganger off to die would cheapen that. Though it is a possibility.
Even the Man in Black reveal was pretty good in my opinion. While it was obvious, the way it was handled made it worthwhile.
I hope Ford is dead. Cheapens the finale if he comes back.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt given how well they've handled everything thus far. It would also be wholly within Ford's character as he is seemingly several steps ahead of everyone, even when people think he's on the brink.

Me and mrs decided to have sex so missed the end but was really really good.
Surprised haven't seen more narcos season 2. Nothing has come close imo
Westworld while I liked how Ford went out, I still wish he'd remain in one way or another :( he was stealing scenes left and right and had a brilliant ominous screen presence.
Regarding season 2 whats up with those samurai? Surely we won't go to Japan or something in S2?! :lol

I have been wondering if the choice Ford gave the hosts was the action Dolores took or if the choice was the other hosts ability to stop it or react to it.
Say Ford programmed that action into Dolores. He's confident that he'll be gone as he's making the speech. Then the difference would be the other hosts' self-awareness allowing them to stop it or react in some way out of script.
To put this in the Will/MIB frame of mind, the hosts ability to truly fight back isn't self-awareness or life. It's their reaction to entering that situation that does. It's their ability to go against nature or have some free will that does. As much as the guests can only truly live out dark experiences via the Hosts, the Hosts can only truly live out life or death via the guests.

I need to watch season 2.
The trailer for The OA aka Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij's secret Netflix project just dropped and is available on the 16th.
Little is known about the show and the trailer won't tell you much either, which is intended. In fact, the show wasn't even on the release schedule until yesterday, but anything created by these two is a must watch.

It's definitely pretty interesting, if sometimes too much of a downer.

Wait so both Martins and Eldritch approve of The Exorcist? I might start watching it then...
I wasn't a fan of the old movies at all and I find most possession movies to be unintentionally comical though

By Ciaran Go To PostWait so both Martins and Eldritch approve of The Exorcist? I might start watching it then…I was very against the idea of a TV show based on The Exorcist but they pulled it off perfectly. There's more at stake than a simple possession and they expand the "universe" into some very interesting parts. It's only 10 episodes and while they lay the foundations to a possible second season, it works really well as self contained season and wraps it all up "nicely".

Father Marcus is the greatest exorcist of all times. An incredible badass with an interesting backstory, he is just incredible to watch. I really liked almost every character in this and even Father Thomas, who I didn't like for most of the season, turns out to be great in the end.
It's really worth a watch.

The thing about this is that while later on in the series it kind of falls into familiar territory, the beginning differs from the typical. It's whole basis is that not everyone in the church (this one Catholic) is good, some of the poorer communities are left to fend for themselves by the various institutions that they seek for healing (because they're minorities, broke, drug infested, etc...), and that these priests are people that aren't perfect. It goes out of it's way to show someone breaking down from being possessed and trying to fight it off (and coping afterwards), instead of just waking up with VideoCoPilot's demon face warp applied to them. I mean, actual temptation and shit like that. It tells about the possessed's actions and how they would affect the community at large. It tackles some more shit that most of these movies don't even think about doing (police, random civilians, etc). lol. While this can still be viewed as having a "pro-religion" slant based on the subject matter, the biggest difference between it and other films/shows with similar setups, is that by the end of it nobody needed the church to have faith in anything or do a damn thing. It also helps that the demons are OP af.
On ideas alone, it was enough for me to give it a recommendation. That said, ideas by themselves don't make good media. It has some very tense moments, the atmosphere is consistent and dreary, with bits of hope splashed in in just the right amounts and moments, and the acting was pretty good. It had a little bit of a fall-off where it seemed kind of cheesy during this past episode, but it's fairly consistent throughout. The characters are good and it has some decent emotional beats.
Give it past episode 1, if you're checking it out.
The head nun might be one of my favorite characters. The idea that a nun would say, "fuck it. This person can't be saved. Put them out of their misery." Is real af.
By DY_nasty Go To PostIs Westworld safe to marathon? I marathoned Mr. Robot S2 and my brain suffered heavily for it.Yea, for the most part. It's not a mind-fuckery like Mr Robot that tries to fool you every step of the way, it plays within conventions.
Also, watching The OA on Netflix. It's interesting. Good premise. The first 40mins or so of the first episode are terrible, but then they close in very well to actually hook you. The next few episodes are kinda much more "hostages in a tiny room" thriller than the show leads on with. Not sure if I'll finish the entire season.

Was wondering how that was.. After finishing Dirk on Netflix I wanted something good to watch..
Sadly nothing has really caught my eye so I decided to watch Shooter because Omar Epps lol
I like the OA but it's definitely not for everyone. It's more like a quirky indie film extended to a full season of TV. If you like the creators previous films then you will enjoy it.
Sense8's Christmas special is pretty cool as well. Gives me hope that season 2 will be just as good.

Don't know if this is the right thread, but I finally decided to cut the cord. The breaking point was no longer being able to catch all my Pelican games on TV. Depending on how it works out this weekend, I decided to go with PlayStation Vue. It has all the sports channels I want, though some of them with a workaround.
The main one that I have to do a workaround on is for my local Fox Sports regional affiliate. Sometimes, the Pels will be on the alternate channel that Vue provides and to watch it, I will need to go to the Fox Sports Go website/app and watch it through that. Which means I will lose out on the DVR functionality that Vue provides.
Sling TV doesn't require me to use an external app to watch the alternate Fox Sports channels, but it also doesn't really offer DVR for the majority of it's channels. I would also need to buy either a Roku 4 or the new 4k Chromecast in order to watch 4k content while I already have a PS4 that can do that for Vue.
