For all we know the OG story wasn't any good, but I find it hard to believe that a) it was that bad and b) it was worse than what we ultimately got and c) given how some of the stuff in the Grimoire is really well written. I honestly think that Bungie heads just got the itch to make an "open, choose your own quest at your own desire" itch rather than continue to do the things they are known as being one of the best at: a great linear SP experience.
I mean the whole choose your own adventure and make your own story IS preferable over something linear for a game like this--problem is that vanilla destiny didn't have a story lol. It kind of still doesn't even with the expansions.
They really need to have hired a whole group of writers for the sequel and make everything feel more lived in. Patrol maps need to be huge hubs with various social areas mixed between different places for combat. The extent of everything I need to do needs to stop coming from a fucking bounty board and from some off-hand comments from a fucking merchant. Start trying to give a little weight to the side quests from a narrative perspective.
I'm going to be disappointed if its the same game with a few new classes and better graphics. It needs to feel like a full fledged sequel. Not holding my breath though.

In the summer of 2013, just over a year before Destiny came out, the story got a full reboot, according to six people who were there. Bungie ditched everything Joe Staten and his team had written, reworking Destiny’s entire structure as they scrapped plot threads, overhauled characters, and rewrote most of the dialogue. The decision was made against Staten’s wishes, sources say. Destiny project lead Jason Jones and the rest of senior leadership were unhappy with the writing team’s supercut, and their reaction was to scrap it all.
crazy

In terms of Bungie and storytelling--they've always had a fantastic extended universe (destiny grimoirre, halo books, etc) but fucking layer thin story telling in the games themselves. That said, the Halo games were still miles more interesting from a story perspective than Destiny, but they haven't learned anything about how to translate story know-how from other mediums into the games themselves.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postyea that was a mistakeRemember the Exo Stranger?
starting to think they don't have a single fucking clue what to do about the traveler or speaker anymore either
for fucks sake is the queen even alive?
never seen a story handled worse
the story is great, its just not in the game lol
the fact that xur is just kinda chillin in the tower on his days off is hilarious on so many different levels
we got fukkin REKT on the moon
reef wars could've been a movie, or at least a blizzard short lol. tons more
but its crazy how far the game came.... there's more story in unlocking your third subclass than there was in the vanilla main campaign

I could have been right there with ya, but I'm a long-time vet of playing MMO's and have learned when to say "stop". For the most part, anyway. :P
"Did I yawn just now? Are my eyes drooping? Welp, time to go to bed."
Another "trick" is to understand that games, especially nowadays, are designed to be addictive. Learn to recognize those aspects and be able to tell yourself that you played with them enough for whatever time block you are comfortable playing the game for. Come back another day or another week.
I occasionally stay up later than normal playing games, reading, or watching twitch but it is when I know I don't have anything planned the next day.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostThoughts on your first destiny raid kin?It just reinforced my belief that Destiny loves not explaining anything well. Mechanics, story, etc.
I had lots of fun going after that challenge, though, so thanks for bringing me on.
Funny thing is...that's the smallest/easiest raid by miles in the game lol
the only weapon quest you need to worry about right now is getting a gjallarhorn...just essential
we did manage to complete the raid right after you left--I just kind of awkwardly watched and fired my gally while the sword bearers did all the heavy lifting
vault of glass incoming...you gonna see whats really good lol

Within the context of the raids, that's very deliberate. They're meant to encourage communication and teamwork.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostWithin the context of the raids, that's very deliberate. They're meant to encourage communication and teamwork. That can happen without being obtuse. Other games with raids often drop hints of the boss mechanics in the minor encounters leading up to the boss fight.
Like, if the boss has an aoe with a tell, a mob or two you encounter prior to the boss room will do something similar. If the boss fight has a puzzle thing where you need to do certain triggers, another example of those triggers would also be on the route to the boss. Things like that.
You still need communication and cooperation. Those introductions to mechanics just make things easier to explain/learn. Doing things that way is a better design decision, imo.
And, yeah, I could tell that was an easy one. There appears to be a significant margin for error. I did pick up my gjallerhorn this past weekend but its light level is really low. I have a sword, as well, but the same caveat applies.
decided im going for a full ornament crota set on my titan and a full ornament kings fall set for my hunter
don't like the vault of glass or wrath of the machine armor sets

By livefromkyoto Go To PostIf I were still playing, I would totally check out this build.
I don't understand the point of this at all lol
How is this build supposed to be successful in theory?

The burn does more damage over time now so you can clean them up easily with a body shot from whatever.
I just always liked the class, but it was too underpowered most of the time. Even in the video he says it's not an overpowered build or anything, just capable.

Still makes little sense...there's an artifact to snatch the effectiveness of burn over time damage, and even without such a thing those flare grenades rarely hit anyone. And then he's using a sniper...for an anti sniper build, and a gimped last word to boot lol.
If you're looking for a good Sunsinger class, my old try hard trials class is still viable with this meta:
Sunsinger + Starfire protocol (double fusion grenade): Use angel of light and a hand cannon. This is so rarely used that you get a huge advantage in nearly every gunfight. Being able to hover in the air while armed with two fusion grenades--the utility is crazy. There's so much SHIT around so much of the maps in destiny that are bothersome but serve as a huge advantage with the AoL perk. There's so many times where someone is certain I'm around the corner and pushes in and I'm just hovering above that point and can either get a first shot advantage, drop down and melee, or just stick them with a grenade.

Yeah, I tried the angel of light thing back when this video hit, but I wasn't good enough to make it happen. People just shot me.
its crazy seeing so many people still playing this with all the piff out right now wtf
i aint goin back, you can't make me

rumor making the rounds
Hello everyone.
There are a few things to talk about. So little time remains before the reveal! I look forward to the future.
Destiny 2 will launch on Battle.net - not Steam and not Origin.
Max level will be 20 just like D1 vanilla.
Tomorrow they will reveal a new pvp game mode. It is like an evolution of Elimination, but Elimination is not gone (don't worry!). At the moment, crucible - all of it - is 4v4.
Let's talk about the weapons.
Slot A is like Primary. It will work mostly the same as it does now. There will be no elemental weapons in this slot. Kinetic damage Auto, Pulse, Hand Cannon, and Scout. However, side arms will get moved into this slot and SMGs will be added.
Slot B is identical to slot A, but the weapons are elemental. That means that you get two primaries in crucible and ammo is abundant for both.
Slot C will be Rocket Launchers (with even less ammo, but larger explosions), Swords, fusions, snipers, shotguns, and.... a secret new weapon I don't want to spoil (but was totally in the trailer)! HMGs are gone.
"Heavy ammo" will have relatively short timers and many locations, but only drops for the person that picks it up. Of course, we've seen that Bungie can change this kind of thing with relative ease, so who knows how it will be at launch or a year from now.
Abilities are a really big deal. You can expect to see each class have a new ability that exists for the whole class no matter what subclass. Each class gets 1 ability with 3 options. Hunters get Shadestep, Warlocks get something similar to the bubble, but it doesn't offer a physical barrier, just the perk, and Titan's get a "brace" which is kind of like cover they can create.
Golden Gun, Voidwalker, Striker, Nightstalker, Stormcaller, and Sunbreaker will all return, though they will all see massive changes. Bladedancer is being replaced by a class that uses an arc bow staff. Sunsinger is being replaced by a class that uses a solar sword. Defender is being replaced by void Captain America.
PS
Trials of Osiris is gone.
It's called Trials of the Nine
