I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining a monthly Comic Book Club. The first month wouldn't start until October. I'm going to list some comic series and we can take a vote to see which one we should start first. I decided to choose runs that are smaller and little more modern for the first month. I was thinking since most of these are small runs we can probably do two books this months. Eventually I would like to do longer runs.
Nameless by Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham, and Nathan Fairbarin
Tokyo Ghost by Rick Remender and Sean Murphy
Nemo Trilogy by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill
The Nao of Brown by Glyn Dillon
Phonogram: Rue Britianna by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez
So who would like to join in on the fun and what book would you slanets(?) like to start first? If you have any suggestions let me know.

Actually... I'm reading Monstress
I wish someone had told me ahead of time what I was getting into but its.... well, its nice to be reading something new again.

It's not a complete run is it?
Oh and guys I finished Tokyo Ghost a few weeks ago but I will read it again because

I really don't think. And its not.... well, amazing by any means. But every few pages there's some amazing artwork and the story might eventually turn into something worth enjoying.
Its up to its 8th volume and apparently people love it. I'm in it for the long haul though.

By Moris Go To Postdown for this.
Do you prefer any of the ones in the OP?
Nameless is really good. Think it might lend well for a book club since there's a lot to unpack and analyze at the end. Wouldn't mind re-reading it TBH.
I liked what I read of Tokyo Ghost too, so I could go for finishing that if others want to. I'm really down for anything though, I think Phonogram is the only thing I'm not too interested in since I wasn't a big fan of Wicked + Divine.

I think Nameless is going to be my vote. I read the first two comics and never finished it.
Phonogram is good. I haven't read Wicked + Divine but from what I have seen I don't think they are that much alike. Phonogram is really just about relationships, identity, and music. The magic isn't that important.
Since Nameless is only 6 issues I think we can do that for a test run then move on to the Nao of Brown.
The Nao of Brown is probably most unique comic on the list. It's just about a Hafu living with depression in London.

I think that's a really good idea. I'm not a huge fan of its dialogue, since I find it very obvious like getting hit over the head with a brick, but I will admit that Nameless has a lot to unpack and really packs a bang for your buck for the amount of issues.
I just downloaded Nameless #1 off Amazon. There are 6 chapters???
When do we start and how much should we read?
edit: ok just bought the 5 remaining chapters.

The books are a lot more dense then you'd imagine. Since Nameless is just a test run I think we should start Saturday or Sunday and just read one a night for that week. Talk about each issue or two. In October we can move on to the longer books.

Alright cool.
So we're doing a chapter a week? Do I get all chapters? A little confused. I got Chapter #1 for now.

It's only six issues we could probably do a chapter every night or every other night. I picked a small run first because it would give people new to comics an introduction to the format.
Nameless is a finished six issue comic. So Nameless #1 = One issue if there's any sort of confusion. You need the whole series.
Fuck, I ordered the first. Then there was an option to buy the remaining five issues. Then once I bought them I realised two of the five were The Nameless by someone else. Anyone know if you can return kindle books?
Shit, I did the same! You can return it and claim it's the wrong item under your digital orders. I got my money back right away, just did it.
The Nameless #5 by Joe Pruitt shows up next to all the other Grant Morrison versions for some reason and you have to dig to find the Morrison version.

Wait what they had two extra books in the bundle? Yeah tell them you thought they were all apart of the same series then point out why you were confused. They should refund them.
EDIT: I see what's going on they have the wrong series for issue 4 and 5. Explain to them you thought you were buying Grant Morrison's Nameless comic and that they have the wrong two comics listed.

I didn't need to state anything, just clicked on return for refund and selected "Wrong Item" from the drop down. No fuss.

Tou return from a device or your computer? I can't on my phone.
By Apollo Go To PostWhat two issues are you guys missing?
4 and 5 i think.
I'd also recommend just buying off Comixology if you wanna go the digital route, at least for most comics it's easier
By Totti x 40 Go To PostWe can read and then post with spoilers?
yes
I made no bones to read a preview or look up any bit of detail what this comic is about.
But "The Exorcist meets Apollo 13" is basically it haha. Maybe meets Armageddon 🤐 Lots of similarities to Event Horizon as well.

Well that was interesting. I had no idea what I was getting into. First few pages seemed to jump around quite a bit before settling down to a good pace.
It seems to be Armageddon x Lizard People

Sorry I'm behind. I'll be caught up by tonight. From what I read of the first chapter shits gonna be wild.
Ayo, I only read the first issue before yesterday but having read 1 and 2. There's tons of Occult stuff in here. I have a feeling this shit is going to get nuts. Morrison is mixing a lot of religious text into the story too.
I think the book is going to end up being about the circle of life. Malkuth to Yesod line is connected to the Kabbalah Tree of Life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabbalah Looks like I am going to study tonight before moving on to the third issue. In the first issue we get a panel that looks almost looks like an Ouroboros and the infinity symbol mixed together but instead of a tail it's got the head of a dick there. Circle of life for Nameless who's kind of dick? We're told he's abandoned his name and something happened to him in his past that he is ashamed of.
I think this might have the best choice to start on. There's a lot of cool art direction and new readers get to experience how weird comics can be.
I reread both issues and on one of the pages in the first issue we get a hint that Xibalba has done something to Darius.
Although the panels are separated they still exist on the same plane and share focal point when you isolate those two panels.
I like how Burnham (artist) is playing with the emotions during the panels. Example would be when Nameless finds out that the symbol of the Gate of Az is on a asteroid. We see Nameless's world literally flip upside down.

That flipped up side down panel was cool, I didnn't realise that. I need to pay more attention.
I finished issue 2.
Was kinda expecting a revelation about Darius. It is going to be interesting to see what that is all about.
I always watch Ancient Aliens, and this feels very Ancient Alienish with the battle in the sky between angels and demons.

Had to look up "5 is 1 and 4 isa door."
"After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.""

By reilo Go To PostOh I finished the entire thing already. We're we supposed to read it an issue a day?
Yeah lol
I'll finish it tomorrow.
Caught up. Morrison is a nutter. Going to have to re-read that last issue.
Anyways, so for the next comic do you guys want Sci-fi, drama, or action?
