Couldn't see a place to talk about the movie.
Just finished it and really enjoyed it, a pretty safe first movie, but did a lot to set up the next film. It did most of what it set out to do really well.

Deserves them. The film isn't without its faults, but it was a really well put together film.
I am still buzzing from seeing it and will hopefully see it again tomorrow.

Gonna watch it tonight, cautiously optimistic. But if JJ's Star Trek is anything to go by, then I think I'll enjoy it quite a bit.

just watched it.
mediocre ultra safe movie that ultimately relies on tickling people's nostalgia bone. still enjoyed it overall.
I hope Disney lets Rian Johnson do his thing which should result in a far better movie.

By Dipro Go To Postmediocre ultra safe movie that ultimately relies on tickling people's nostalgia bone.Precisely what I was expecting.
Formulaic, no commentary to speak of, negative emotions are left no time while feel-good moments are too long. But way worth the time, I enjoyed it for a number of reasons. The cast is fantastic.
It's a solid movie, Star Wars made by Disney for sure. I don't know what you expected, it's great compared to what Disney did with Marvel.

safe, non-risque should be the best way to handle episode 7.
we all know JJ always creates a fun ride, SW7 should be no different.
im more excited to see what Rian Johnson will do with the Franchise.
I think he'll bring it back to the star wars universe, as JJ always has that JJ Abrams stamp to it.
also, for those that have seen it, are they allowed to talk about the movie, or should they spoiler tag it,
or just have a dedicated spoiler thread?

What do you prefer, EU after Endor or the film?
I have seen the film twice now and am mixed to what I prefer. Reading so many of the novels they have become engrained as part of what is Star Wars to me. I think I will need to pass judgement until the next films are out.
I was so hoping that Ben would be called Anakin.
Have you read any of the new EU books? I have tried to avoid any spoilers or knowledge of this film, but now might look into the books, especially as they are now canon, IIRC.
I am in line for Star Wars right now. Fuck why don't people wear belts. Why can't people know proper hygiene.
I'm considering paying extra for 3D to avoid this group.

Noooooooooo
3d is not worth it.
I am not even a big star war fan I saw the movie like 2 or 3 years ago. Really here for the space battles, saber battle, and stormtrooper since I'm a big Gundam space opera fan.
I'll wait it out for now but $4 to avoid this group of people sounds enticing... Those people keep showing up for our showing line

The last time we didn't do this we got the Prequel Trilogy.
Start safe then go crazy.
I agree that there wasn't much done with the 3d to make it worth it. I recall one scene where it struck me, but it wasn't even a flashy scene.
Enjoyed the film. Liked the look of the X-Wings and they did a great job with all the alien life. Kind of miss the mass exoticism that exists in Star Wars films that you don't see as much of in other Sci-Fi film.

Movie was great, I asked if it was possible to switch reservation time and they let me.
I enjoyed the movie and action scenes. The dialogue was entertaining. I thought this movie was better than A New Hope with how they handled things. It is very fun to joke about Anakin-lite.
Like Rey character a lot, Finn too.

i agree that it was the right thing to do after the prequel trilogy.
personally, i just expect more of SW in 2015. i saw episode 4 20 years ago. i didn't really need another of those but it was still a good movie that did almost nothing wrong and had likable characters. very solid foundation to build upon.
I'm excited for Ryan Johnson's take on this.

It's hard to say right now. Going to spoiler tag this next part for anyone who's big into the EU but hasn't seen the movie yet: Huge comparison draws to parts of the EU--particularly Lukes New Jedi Order, and one of Hans children going to the dark side. Obviously, a lot of differences between that and this, but the film is very EU like in spirit.
I haven't read any of the new EU books. I might soon--there's obviously a very interesting universe to catch up on with this new cannon film.
Rey is fantastic. I can't imagine people complaining about her but apparently there are some. Potential to be the best lead in the whole series.
BTW, I don't know if it's a spoiler but I'll tag it, I have a theory I haven't heard yet
I get a feeling this trilogy will change the way the force works. Remember when Han said "this is not how the force works?". I get the sense they will exactly go against this idea that it is inherited. Finn holding the saber is already going against traditional views regarding jedis...

in answer to your spoiler and in case you dont want to be spoilered.
Yes, well at least in JJ's film. He said in an interview that his interpretation of the force from when he first saw ANH was that anyone could be strong in the force and it is not just inherited. He also says he would never go against Lucas's canon of the force, which does seem to imply that the force is inherited, or at the least strong users pass it on to their offspring. In the film, Kylo seemed to be the strongest force user we have seen on screen, but then Rey is the most natural force user we have ever seen and she ended up trumping him. I am gonna say that Rey is 100% not a Skywalker. As for Finn, it has never been said that a non force user could not wield a lightsaber, but what makes them so good at it is that they can feel the next move coming. It was why Finn in the end got beat,

Oh, I disagree about
Kylo. I mean, sure, he stops a laser at the beginning, but he's a mess. Bad temper, messy, takes forever to beat Finn... He's pretty bad, hence why he needs training at the end of the movie. Also, I think Rey's name is obviously given by someone who had the force in mind, ray of light, etc. Which makes me think she's Luke's kid. Two things go against what I'm saying:
- if the force is for anyone, then it'd be logical if she was a nobody
- Leia does not say much, just a big hug

There is a lot to imply that Rey is a Skywalker. Kylo seemed so interested in hearing about "the girl". The fact that Leia gave that hug, as opposed to Chewie, it looked like a hug of nice to see you again, and the fact that R2 woke up on her arival. However, it all seems way to obvious and the fact that JJ has said that the force shouldn't be just inherited,
As for Kylo, he is a mess, but that doesn't mean he isn't the strongest force user. He did things we have never seen before, and as JJ is such a big SW fan he made OT Vader look like a little bitch. Kylo can simply force his way into minds. For me he is the best character, although I know a lot don't like him. He just is an extremely powerful force user, but also the most human character we have seen. He isn't a Jedi, he isn't a Sith. he is just an extremely troubled individual who happens to be a force user. He is just raw talent and still needs to be trained in the way of the Snookie.

a spoiler thread may be in order
I had originally meant for this to be a spoiler thread because I wanted to talk about the film, but then realised I didn't include spoiler in the title and once people started posting it was too late to change it.
By Dipro Go To PostRey is a Kenobi for sure. Then there's a missing link between Obiwan and her because the chronology only works for her to be Luke's kid otherwise. Kylo is 29, she's like 18, her family left when she was 5, means Kylo blew the pseudo-academy out when he was 16...
