Just do it.
First thing I've agreed with Adam Blade. Top wo Nerae 1 and 2 are so good.

Satoshi Kon was a genius and left the animation world too soon.

Guess if we're dropping blind suggestions I'll pimp my favorite of all time again
Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still
Directed by the guy who did G Gundam and worked on by staff who would later go on to create Big O. You can definitely see elements both in this series. (Like you'd expect from the name, there are Giant Robots, but there's also alot of Wuxia inspired super human martial arts like in G Gundam.)
7 episodes of the highest quality animation and music you can find in the medium. Storytelling is consistent, concise and thematically powerful.
Just make sure to watch it subbed. The dub is mad inconsistent as it was released over the course of 6 years. Got different actors playing different roles across different episodes lol

Retro, I do enjoy longer running series but it's all of the filler and hiatuses and dragging out of episodes that eventually ruined it for me. Shorter runs tend to make each episode count. There's only so many Bount arcs you can take.
As far as tastes... I guess I've been drawn to both the fantastical and scifi of things. I love a good paced action sequence (which is why I had high hopes for AoT but alas...) and a great training arc is hard to beat.
But really, if it's great then it's great and I won't be turned off by a genre or topic.

If you liked HxH though, Yu Yu Hakusho is more of the same.

I see what you mean. I'd probably stay away from Shounen adaptions then as they kind of have to add filler to give the source material some breathing room, so that they don't have to take breaks mid content.

Well Sci Fi action series I can help with. If it has either Space and/or Robots I probably fuck with it.
Some good ones off the top of my head.
*cough cough* GIANT ROBO *cough cough*
Outlaw Star - (26 Episodes) Similar to Bebop in that it's an episodic series about a group of Space Bounty Hunters, but it's alot more lighthearted and fun than Bebop so I think it's more enjoyable.
Cyber City Oedo 808 - (3 Episodes) Short Cyberpunk series about three criminals who fight crime in order to reduce their sentences. Each episode focuses on one of the characters and gives you a little peak into their pasts, what their lives are like and what the world they live in is like. Wish there was more.
Gunbuster - (6 Episodes) First series by the Evangelion director and imo the better show. Basically the show that probably influenced Gurren Lagann the most...but also a better show lol. Hot blooded anime action with female leads for once.
Megazone 23 - (4 episodes) Can't even describe it. Just check it out. Warning: 80s as FUCK. Episode 2 has a sex scene lol
Kaiba - (12 episodes) Not an action series but one of my favorites. Basically the story of a character that has lost their memories in a world where memories can be at will be swapped, altered, manufactured, cloned and removed like a USB drive. Thoroughly explores what a world like that would be like as the character goes on a journey to recover his identity. Don't let the art style turn you off. It's deliberately cutesy to clash with just how horrific a place that the world the series takes place in is. If you're interested in Transhumanism at all Kaiba is something you should see

Plz watch Giant Robo.... plz...
By reilo Go To PostAwesome recs, I'll check those out. I'll be limited by what I can find on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
yeeeeeeeeah that probably makes things difficult for most of mine lol
They're all on bakabt, save for Outlaw Star which I think is on CR
By reilo Go To PostI'll start on Kuroko. Lain was good for the mind fuckery, super dark and depressing though. Not one to rewatch. Its better than Daredevil netflix series doe
I've seen bits of Psycho-Pass when my former roommate watched it. Didn't find it all appealing.
GATE has been very good to me. Next episode starting to get into crazy international affairs regarding Japan and the rest of the world.
Why didn't anyone tell me there was a new Macross series in production!? Friend told me today after class and I was just standing there like
because the movie retelling that gonna released after series ended is the only thing that gonna worth to watch.
Of course Konex would like a show the moment gothic lolitas and naked teenage busty elf girls show up.

I liked it from ep 1. Not sure how I feel about the usual anime tropes yet
Avoid Escaflowne at all costs.

Maybe this holds true for the movie but the TV show is fantastic.
PS: Let's try to keep to Summer 2015 anime talk only, guys lol
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To Postwait what is GATE?
A show about the Japanese SDF entering a portal that leads into a fantasy world and interacting with the people on the other side. Best show of the summer IMO

So is Gate supposed to be SDF propaganda or something?
I don't really get the premise at all. Besides making them look really cool by magically dropping them into a JRPG

Holy shit I would not be surprsed if this show is the japan equivalent of the Transformers film series.

my friend and i were laughing hysterically at the artillery and no man's land display
"60,000 dead, how you feeling today sir?"
"like you better not be up on my waifus, you copy that lt?"
For a show that has a large scale action scene just about every episode it's been a really flat experience so far. I think I'm ready to drop it.
I watched the first two episodes of Gangsta though so I guess I might pick that up in its place

By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostAnyone watching "The Heroic Legend of Arslan"I'm still watching. The first bit is paced like shit but it gets better. Where it's at now is actually pretty good imo. Still a bit stale chacter-wise but its aite.

Yeah I like it more for the battles and politics than the characters too. I'm like 8 episodes in.

By giririsss Go To PostGate good. god eater good. Chaos dragon bad.I'm actually REALLY surprised that you like God Eater. Or anyone for that matter. I loved the game more than anything else so that's kinda driving me when it gets bad.

Most anime turn me off when the decisions / track of events are super retarded.
The scenario can be complete weirdness, as long as once there, people act the way you'd think they would.
By Moris Go To PostPennywise recommended Monster, think I might start that run just to surpass Linius on Followmy.tv
Monster one of GOATs. One of my all time favorite series.
Gate has devolved into Harem status really quickly. Still enjoyable but i can see it getting tiring.
Prison School was gud.
Soma was good. Soma is starting to really pad out their episodes though. Lots of fluff.

LOL so the main dude in GATE is also a Ranger now? huehuehuehuehuehue
LOL now the emp's chump daughter is telling her lieutenants to fuck broken treaties back together

I could probably forgive alot of that stuff if anything interesting happened at all in the show
There's just nothing driving the series. There's no real conflict, as it's not apparent how either the Empire or the United States are a threat to the protagonists, and so far the SDF itself has been an absolute good. There's also no real mysteries. Or at least there's none that the show seems to have any interest in answering, as it doesn't seem like anyone knows what caused the Gate to appear and they don't seem to care at all to find out.
It just doesn't offer any reason to keep watching week by week. I mean the premise itself has potential. The show just doesn't seem interested in doing anything with it any time soon. Everything around it just seems like an excuse to portray the SDF "realistically"(don't hurt me DY) and have pretty fantasy anime ladies at the same time.
but I mean if that's what people want I guess. I mean I'm watching Himouto this season so I can't really talk shit

What I'm still following this season:
Gatchaman Crowds Insight - Still the best show this season imo and the only one I think will have any value a year from now.
Himouto! Umaru-chan - Please kill me I'm part of the problem.
Gangsta - It's a show I've probably seen 1000 times before and I'm pretty sure every season has at least one, but it's a formula I don't hate so I'm enjoying it so far. I'm invested in its mysteries.
Prison School - I think I'm actually going to drop this. Not because it's bad but because I enjoyed it so much I just read the manga instead. I'll probably watch it when it's all finished since the voices really add to the comedy.
Symphogear GX - Friend got me into this a while ago. Just fulfilling my duty here. When the action is hot though it's FIRE.
I still need to check out Charlotte. So far my opinion of this season is that it's been pretty shitty overall but hey I got shit to watch at work I guess.
